  • Rubber sole
  • Heel measures approximately 1"
  • ZERO DROP PLATFORMS - 0mm heel-to-toe drop place heel and forefoot the same distance from the ground for natural alignment and low-impact landing
  • UPDATED VERSION - Altra Escalante 2 keeps its Altra EGO midsole, but the addition of flex grooves in the midsole and outsole allow for a smoother, more performance-driven ride
  • REDESIGNED UPPER - The upper provides a more secure fit through the midfoot while the FOOTSHAPE design still allows for natural toe-splay
  • WOMEN-SPECIFIC FIT - The running shoes are a bit narrower than the previous model, so we recommend to order 1/2 size up for a better fit

Description

Believe it or not, the popular Escalante just got even better. With increased decoupling in the midsole and outsole for more flexibility on the run, and added perforations for breathability in the upper, this Escalante 2 has a better fit and better performance. We've also added an updated insole that is less susceptible to compression and offers a better step-in feel.

  • Altra Escalante 2.0 are awesome
I was hesitant to order from this seller, as they had several negative reviews about customer service and items not being what was ordered. But I am on a mission to find these older model shoes that Altra is not making any more, and I loved the Escalante 2.0. The shoes came faster than anticipated and are exactly what I ordered. I am going to order another pair. ... show more

  • Comfort: great. Issues: flaws and showing early wear.
Over all: very comfortable and roomy but the quality and durability is lacking in some areas. Fit: I usually wear an 11. After trying the 10, 10.5, and 11 I chose the 10.5. Over all this shoe fits larger than other Altras. Zero drop: This was my first pair of foot shaped, zero drop running shoes. The toe space was fantastic. I didn't have any problem adapting to the minimalist sole. Over all, great experience. Comfort and design: When I received the shoes I noticed that one of the removable soles but badly made and uncomfortable on one side of size 10. The 10.5 were fine though. After my first mile I noticed that the tongue slipped down considerably because it has very little structure. I fixed this issue easily by threading the last lace crossing inside the loop on the tongue along with the previous crossing (see picture). I also noticed the tongue buckling only on the right shoe. But after adjusting the laces it hasn't bothered me. Over all, I wish the tongue was thicker or stiffer. They are wonderful to wear all day long, they are sleek and feel like an extension of your foot. Wear and Tear: I have only had these for about one and a half months and I wear them about 25 hours per week on average. The Altra logo on both the left and right shoe is wearing off because it is made of a thin plastic/rubber. (See pictures) The rubber sole edge on the toe of the shoe is slowly separating from the fabric upper of the shoe. At the moment it is not horrible but the white rubber underneath is becoming more visible. The sole is durable (for reference I usually run on asphalt) and is lasting well. Inside the heel of the shoe and at the edge of the tongue the fabric is pilling. It is not noticable when I wear them nor do I feel it, but I am sure it will get worse. The laces are great quality, they are long enough and tie securely and easily. ... show more

  • An Interesting Change
I'm not a big runner, I mostly jog at a slow place. My biggest mistake is that I did not research Zero Drops before buying these. I actually saw them on a website of "most comfortable running shoes for 2020". Having experienced some painful shin splints the past few months, I thought I would switch to a more comfortable shoe. But I had no idea what Zero Drops were. (FYI, don't buy them on the fly like I did - not smart.) First, I want to thank Altra for putting a small card in their shoeboxes to explain what Zero Drop is and that switching to these shoes will make the calves sore. It was a HUGE help. I tried to alternate walking/jogging in them on the first day, but only got a mile before I had to return home, whimpering. This was not the shoes' fault so much as it was my own for not researching Zero Drops before I bought them. Since then, I've been using them to walk casually on alternate days, and I find I don't have sore muscles if I walk slowly (like, 20 minutes/mile kind of pace instead of my usual 14 minutes/mile pace - told you I jog very slow). They are very comfortable and I think the concept of Zero Drop is very interesting. I hope if I can get used to them, I can start jogging in them, too. If you're totally new to these (obviously this wouldn't apply to a runner who has effectively switched and loves Zero Drops) I would recommend trying these on at a running store first and walking a bit before buying them. ... show more

  • Eh. Won’t buy these again.
First I should start by saying I don’t like buying shoes online...cuz you just never know. The shoes are comfortable and offer great support. They offer quite a bit of arch support. They look nice and fit as expected. I have skinny feet. And on rare occasions, I’ll buy a shoe that just seems too “bulky” around my toes. Which is exactly what happened with these shoes. The outer fabric is a molded mesh. With every step I take, the bulky area around my toes, only on the left shoe, the fabric pops back down. So each step I take creates a popping noise created by the molded mesh fabric around the footbed of the shoe. I don’t find it bothersome in the gym because it is usually loud enough in there to drown out the noise. But I can feel it in my foot. It also inhibits my ninja abilities. I can’t sneak up on anyone while wearing these shoes. Comfortable? Yes. Quiet? Not on my feet... These shoes are just “so-so” in my opinion. I won’t buy this particular shoe in the future. ... show more

  • I love Altra!
I've been wearing Altra's for over 2 years now and would not go for another brand. The toe bed saved my knees. I was wearing Nike's and my knee started bothering me while running. A chiropractor told me it was my shoes, which I was quick to turn down because it sounded ridiculous. He recommended Altra's. He was 100% right. Unfortunately, I didn't know how awful Nike's were for running, but now I know. I gave it a shot and tried the Altras. After wearing Altra's, my knee issue completely went away. It's crazy the impact crammed toes/feet have on your legs and knees. I consider my feet to be narrow too - and still the toe bed is perfect. It feels funny at first (toe bed feels lose) but you just got to get used to it and it'll become normal. The only con is the fashion and style. I hope Altra comes up with my stylish shoes. I bought the white ones and I do love them - all white and simple. But I'm choosing comfort over style. I will suck it up all for the sake of taking care of my body. ... show more
