This was my first pair of Altra shoes, and I couldn't be happier. I was shocked at how comfortable these are. As someone with wide feet, the snug fit of most hiking boots leaves me with foot pain at the end of the day. With these, I had absolutely no pain after full day hikes. No break-in time needed either - wore them hiking right out of the box and didn't get a single blister. It did take some time getting used to the "zero drop" sole style, but now I prefer that to my traditional hiking boots. The only negative for me is that they don't seem to be as durable as some other boots that I have had. After wearing them daily for about a month, they are starting to look pretty rough. But with an all fabric boot, I wouldn't expect to have them for years. That said, I'll definitely be buying another pair.

I fell in love with these shoes last year for the toebox, BUT. BUT. BUT……. After wearing them for a period of time my outerpronation was accelerated by the foot bed. Furthermore the lace straps, complete with nifty hooks invited me to tie the shoe laces tighter. I really liked this because it had the support at the ankle especially since I use them outside in the woods, on the trails, hiking. After a period of time I noticed that my toes were getting numb😱. I simply did not correlate the shoes with the numbing toes. Turns out that’s a very tight shoe laces up my ankle were cutting off my blood supply to my toes. Amazon has last year‘s shoes. I bought them not realizing about the very tight upper part where I could put the shoe on rather quickly and tie them up with the swift hooks and get going rapidly. I thought it was a good thing. You know get up and get your shoes on, and go! It wasn’t till I bought a pair of newly designed 2023 shoes, that I realized to my chagrin they had taken away the hooks to have the get up and go shoes. I wrote Altra regarding my disappointment. After I wore them for a bit of time, I realize that in fact they were better shoes. However, the foot bed was still wrong. So I talked to Altra again. They informed me that this was the wrong shoe for me, and suggested a different shoe for hiking and outdoor fun & were Gore-Tex as well. I will be returning the shoes (to both Amazon and Altra), and check to see whether Amazon actually carries the other shoe. First I will try the new shoe to make sure it actually has a new foot bed which accommodates my outer pronation. I will add that Altra has very excellent customer service. I had bought the 2023 version in a store that had very little selection in color, especially for those of us who are active outside. The only color store had to offer was a beige which would not suit out here in the country in the dirt/wet and grime where I use the shoe Almost as a fancy boot. I use the high top for that. To sum up: while the toebox is quite large, bigger than most shoes, the footbed is not totally supported on the outer part of the shoe if your pronation is toward the outside (some define as outer pronation ) vs inside pronation, apparently simply called pronation. This shor would probably be fine for a person with normal pronation, lots of support. But be aware that if you pull the laces tight at the top where the hooks are you can cut off the blood supply to your foot. Buy at your own risk. Hope this helps.

The way the toe box is shaped, the shoe is almost too big but my middle toe still hits the end with every step which is unacceptable. Also as others have noted, makes a weird flopping sound as you walk. The toe box is very soft, so don't drop anything on your foot or accidentally kick anything.... I dropped a cardboard box on my toe and it hurt 🤣

These boots are AMAZING. Wide toe box and the balanced cushioning and overall protection and support around the ankles. They run small so size up. I normally wear 8.5/9 so I bought size 9, too small. I like to wear bunion protectors for longer hikes and these have the room for it! SO COMFY! Seller did ship quickly also. The return process to get them switched out was pretty arduous and it took forever for my refund to come through, meaning I couldn't repurchase the correct size with the same monies. I had to go further out of pocket which was crappy in order to get these boots in time for my hiking trip.

This is by far the best shoe I’ve owned and I only buy good quality. The wide toe bed is pure luxury. I do habitat restoration and these hold up well to the abuse. They dry fast, too.

I would not recommend these if you haven’t worn altra’s before or haven’t done your research. If you’re an ultra lover, these are perfect. Got plenty of use in these while hiking around Banff, Jasper, North Georgia, and Glacier. Very comfortable and held up great. Looking forward to many more hikes in these. Zero break-in time with the right socks. I ordered my running shoe size and almost wish I had sized up with my inserts, but they did not bother me at all up or down mountains.

These boots are like sneaker pillows with ankle support! My feet are so happy, and there was no break-in period. No rubbing, no blisters & no discomfort. The wide toe box was paramount and these boots offer that without an orthopedic look. I imagine I’ll wear these until the soles fall off and then buy more.
