  • Most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn
I have been wearing these every day since 2-17-23. Two walks daily, and for most of the rest of the day. They are the lightest shoe I’ve ever worn, and the most comfortable, from day 1. They have substantial room in the toe box, which is a must for me, because my big toes turn up at the ends, and this has become worse as I get older. The soles are well cushioned, and this, combined with the the fact that these shows weigh next to nothing, is better than orgasm. Just wait until you’re older, you’ll understand. The only concern I had, was will they last. The answer is yes! They have lasted through DAILY usage, for 4 months! Did I mention they are cute! They are! Please, Altra, never stop making these! ... show more

  • One of the Best Shoes on the Market
The Altra Escalente shoes are one of the best ones I have found on the market, I typically use them for trail running or road running they are great for both of these, they offer the perfect blend of support and flexibility. Especially good for those with wider feet.

  • Comfortable shoe that allows for good stability through the ball of your foot
Size: 9.5 Color: Gray/Coral
Cons: Since the ball/toe of the shoe isn't tapered like traditional tennis shoes, the shoe actually feels a bit large on my foot, but it also feels like it fits in length. So I am not sure that I would size down, but I would recommend trying on a pair before ordering. It is very comfortable but when I was doing burpees, they kept coming off (easy fix... I just stopped doing the stupid burpees in class haha). They don't have a ton of arch support or a super thick insole... this isn't necessarily a horrible thing, but as I am getting older my joints (especially knees) needs as much shock absorption as possible, but still very comfortable. I am slightly pigeon-toed and the shape of the front of these shoes makes it very, very obvious. Pros: These shoes are some of the most comfortable, versatile tennis shoes I have ever worn... and I have a ton of different brands and types of high-end wrokout/running shoes. The wide toe allows a more natural movement of your foot, giving you better balance and stability. The shoe is super lightweight, but good quality. I take a "xtreme" step class, which is full of crazy, fast moves, which requires a person to be light on their feet and some shoes feel like bricks on your feet, but the feel almost as if you were not wearing shoes at all. The shoes have pretty decent traction yet are still pretty flexible. Probably my favorite all around shoe for working out. Just ordered my second pair. ... show more

  • Good quality but not that comfortable
Nice shoes. The top is like a sock but does wear out fast. I hike and walk my dogs all over so after daily use and three washes the top material started to fray. It’s ok though - I wanted a shoe that’s super light a breathable. Only thicker materials are more durable but I didn’t want a shoe with a thicker top. I love how thin the tongue is but it won’t stay in place and constantly slides way to the side. I also really like the shock absorbing sole ! It’s not bulky like most shock absorbing shoes but somehow works great. The fit is great too. I have bunions so my foot is wide in the front but my heals are thin and most wide shoes end up rubbing my heals because of that “flip-flop” action. These shoes fit snugly on my heals and have plenty of room in the front. The reason I deducted a star because they look super dorky on my feet ( makes my feet look kinda like ducks feet ) and not that comfortable when walking at the full stride. Like it’s hard to take a normal, full heal to toe step because of the angle of the sole. I’m sure - for many people comfort is more important than looks but I wish it was combined somehow. 😉 ... show more

  • Best shoes for despairing feet
I love cute shoes. I wore cute shoes for fifty years, but now my feet have mutinied, and cute, three- and four-inch heels are out of the question. I have had knee problems since I was 19, but it wasn't until my feet started hurting that I started worrying about what shoes I wore. I bought a pair of Hoka shoes for my feet, recommended by my podiatrist, only to end my workday in tears because my knees were on fire. So I broke down and went to a local store, and they fitted me with zero drop, wide toe box Altras. Two years and two knee implants later and it was time for another pair. I tried going cheaper again, reasoning that my knees were now stable, but returned three different brands due to continued foot pain (even from Orthofeet!) before I went back to Altra. The previous pair weren't exactly cute. But this pair actually aren't bad-looking, and I can work my retail job and still walk when I get home! I am an Altra wearer for life. ... show more

  • Favorite shoes
This is my first pair of altra’s and I really like them. I walked around all weekend and not once did my feet bother me. My husband and son has worn Altras for a few years and they convinced me to try them. I’m so glad they did.

  • If you wear orthotics...
I bought these on the recommendation of my chiropractor. I'm trying to strengthen my feet and wean myself away from orthotics. These are recommended as a good transition shoe to minimal shoes. I don't think I'll ever achieve "barefoot" status, but I do agree that these are midway between traditional and barefoot shoes. Things I like: lots of toe room; nice cushioning, comfortable footbed, no weird seams or rubbing, soft tongue that doesn't cut into my ankles, no rubbing at the heel. Things I dislike: Even with orthotics, my feet are a bit unstable side to side; they're a tad short in the toe - the soft fabric compensates for that, but I don't really like the knit-type shoes; they are completely flat with no arch support (as expected) - for me this is an issue as I need a slight (1/4 inch) lift in the heel and arch support to walk comfortably - I added a small heel lift and still use my orthotics; the soles are a bit too thick - now that I've started this transition, I do like shoes where I can feel the ground under my feet. Overall, they're good shoes, but they're not going to be "every day" shoes for me. I think someone without all the foot issues I have would find them extremely comfortable. ... show more
