This is my first purchase of this make of shoe, so I realized I might not get what I need/wanted with these shoes; however, I was pleasantly surprised, as the shoes fit my feet well (i.e., {"just right", not tight; my shoe size is 8.5 Medium (which I ordered) and found these to be true to size, with plenty of room in the toe-box). These shoes have a nice "bounce" feeling when you walk; I just turned 67 years old and don't run/jog regularly anymore (I mostly walk daily and regularly ride an e-scooter and e-bike, as well); however, if I did manage to do so without difficulty in the near future (e.g., this next summer, "when the living's easy"...lol) do half-lap run intervals on the nearby high school track, these would be the shoes I would wear while running and walking on the track.

What I love about this model is that they are supper comfortable. You can take them on long hikes or runs They are amazing I highly recommend them. They are water resistant and also fast dry material. What I dislike is that the shoelaces are a little to big for this type of shoes.

9 month update: the junction where the top fabric of the upper meets the toe bumper at the front of the shoe has become delaminated and is annoying to say the least, started happening about 5 months in. Too annoying to continue to wear, going to the local thrift store. Will continue wear the heck out of my escalante racers. Absolutely fantastic version of the Superior! I loved the Superior 4 and wore the heck out of them, bought the 4.5s and did not like the coarse upper fabric, well this new 5 uses the same fabric I came to love from the 4 but this new version offers slightly better protection than version 4. Super supple and comfortable as per usual with Altra. As with most Altra's, I would say you feel like you're riding in them, contrary to how you feel in a Hoka, Nike, Saucony, etc where it feels like you're riding on top of the shoe, this gives added comfort, stability and confidence on the trails. I've owned Altra Torin 4, 4.5, 5. Escalante, Escalante racer (probably my 2nd favorite Altra), Olympus 4, Timp 2, King Mt 2, Lone peak 4, 4.5, and 5 and the Vanish Carbon. Superior 4 is the best of all worlds of comfort, lightweight and ground feel. I always wear an 11.5 in Altra and heard that it's helpful to size up ½ size in these, which I almost never do and was so happy that I went with a size 12, because of the length and tendency to hit the toe cap with the end of your toes. They're perfect.

Im not calling them clown shoes because of the ridiculously bright yellow, and yes they probably shine in the dark but these things came in WAY too large. Not sure if the pair i received were just mislabeled at the factory or what. I've worn many pairs of the Superior 4.5s and never had any issue so unless they drastically changed their sizing between the 4.5 and 5, something was off with the pair i received. Im not kidding when i say the ones i received (and returned) had to be 2-3 sizes too large and i normally wear a 11.5 or 12 (depending on the Altra shoe) so now you understand the clown shoes comment

I rarely write reviews and almost never write a negative one, but I had to make an exception for this show. I have had a pair of Altra Lonepeak 6 shoes for a while and love them. I liked the color of these Superior 5s so I decided to give them a try. Ordered a half-size bigger because folks in the comments said to. Got them, put them back n, and immediately was unhappy with the feel. The right shoe felt like it was twisting on my foot so that the left edge of my heel felt like it was almost hanging over the edge of the footbed. Figured I must have ordered to large a size, so I sent those back and got a half-size smaller (my normal size). These fit better out of the box but now, after having worn them a few times, are doing the same thing. It’s such an aggravating feeling, and no amount of adjustments fixes it. I love the level footbed and big toe box of Altras, but these Superiors are a far cry from the Lonepeaks.

Never even heard of this brand but something about the shoe just looked right... so I tried it. This shoe fits and feels 10X better than tons of others I've been trying on the last 3 months looking for a shoe that feels good. This has good traction and feels great. It is definitely underrated and worth a try. I will most likely be ordering another pair.

Without a doubt, training or racing, these are the best running shoes on the market. You can adjust/remove the insoles. They fit about a size up for me though.
