These held up incredibly well for a 19 day Alaskan adventure complete with hikes through the tongass National forest, lots of rocky terrain, coastal environment. These shoes never let my feet get wet inside (though i did wear rain gear when needed). Notably, these shoes were comfortable regardless of thickness of wool socks i wore. Fit felt wonderful from first wear.

Great wide toe box, comfortable, water proof. Sole is thin so walking on angled or small rocks hurts after a while, but I am willing to put up with that.

I love Altras for running and hiking. When looking for more of a hiking boot I figured I'd try these based on past experience. Overall I liked them but I wasn't really into the running shoe look with the high rise ankle. These would still be a great trail shoe but I decided to go with a lower rise traditional hiking boot. With Altras though you can't beat the comfort and look.

When I received the trail shoes they were extremely tight. I wear a size 9 2E (New Balance shoes) and have a high instep. Shoes that fit are hard to find and ones the fit usually require some modifications. Most of the time just changing the insoles and lacing method does the trick. For the Altra trail shoes I tried 4 different insoles. The insoles the shoes came with, no insoles, the short insoles I was using in my New Balance trail shoes, and old style flat insole material. Plus I tried a few lacing variations. I found that the combo of old style insoles cut short so I could wiggle my toes and a lacing variation for a high instep made the Altra trail shoes very comfortable. Also the mens size 9 Altra trail shoe has enough room for my wool socks without feeling tight.

ALTRA Men's AL0A4VQH Lone Peak All-WTHR Mid Trail Running - Lasted only miles !! Not Water Proof They are super comfortable but not water proof as they advertise. I used these shoes for 4-5 hikes in last two months in wet conditions and the glue seems to be wearing off.. the seams are opening and joints are peeling. I must have put 50-60 miles on them. I hope Altra takes care of the quality issues related to glue and seems.
