  • Beautiful looking shoes at a fair price
Size: 10.5 D US Color: Walnut
This pair of Allen Edmonds McAllister Wing Tip in Walnut shoes is my first in a series of investments for quality craftsmanship wardrobe items. Here is a breakdown in key facets for my review. Price: Expensive for my usual and comfortable spending range in dress shoes which is around 50-100$. Hence why I considered it an investment towards a quality piece of clothing. If you look at it objectively, these Allen Edmond shoes are priced evenly or competively against other brands such as Alden and even Crockett and Jones. Fit: These are tight and narrow right out of the box. At least the feel very tight and narrow in comparison to the bargain priced shoes I frequent such as Calvin Klein, Steve Madden and Perry Ellis. It was incredibly difficult to get my feet into the shoes, almost so that I nearly purchased shoes horns. The leather although beautiful, is very stiff and required 4-5 occasions of wear to "break them in." Even after said break in period, I feel this shoes run narrow and would recommend sizing up to E or even EE in width. I usually size a 10.5 D comfortably but for this pair I advise going to 10.5 E or 10.5 EE. I suspect the leather will continue to soften and become more supple over time and wear. I really enjoy the cork bed in these shoes, it truly helps keep comfortable during long hours of wear and walking. Material Quality: Undoubtedly the materials used for these shoes are premium. The leather is full grain and thick, rich with leather fragrance. Stitching, threading, brogue and glueing is done cleanly and with great attention to details. Aesthetics: The walnut color is even throughout the shoes. There is a dark brown or chocolate colored trim piece on the rim of the entrance to the shoes, very subtle detail, but adds contrast and balance to the overall look. Shoe laces are also dark brown / chocolate colored, waxed and thin. Heel of the shoes does have rubber sole piece to aide with traction. The wingtip and brought style seem classic but timeless when worn with a suit, and appear fashionable with jeans or slacks. The shoes don't look like an average economy dress shoe, and this is visible throughout the details mentioned in this review. Overall Impression: wonderful craftsmanship with superb material quality, tight and narrow fit with progressive leather softening and comfort, beautiful and versatile look with rich leather scent, subjectively expensive but competively priced versus brands of similar build and materials. I will update my review as the shoes are worn in and durability is tested. ... show more

  • The perfect wingtip imo
Size: 10 D US Color: Black
I bought 3 pair of AE wingtips all at once, these and the Hampton and the Larchmont. Style wise these are my perfect wingtip. I dig the extra perf details throughout the shoe. This shoe is solid feeling. Unfortunately this shoe is built on their longest last which means that my 10.5 I typically wear came out feeling over large with heel slop and gapping around the ankle. The AE shoe expert suggested going down a half size on this shoe and considering 1 size wider. I moved to down to the 10d and will update review when I receive it. When comparing this to a top of the line Florsheim I bought 13 years ago (and really starting to show their age) I'd say that this leather feels more substantial. The ankle portion of the shoe extends about a quarter inch higher than my Florsheim which means that if you move your foot a certain way this shoe will jab you in the ankle a bit. I'm a bit concerned about the edge dressing on these as it looks like it could chip off easily, it had on one of the other pairs of shoes. *** UPDATE Just wanted to share my experience with AE cust serv. I had the heels on both shoes come lose like a visible 1/32nd inch gap where the heel meets the outsole after 4 months of light wear. Further these never got as comfortable as I thought they should be. AE exchanged them for me after sending in proof of purchase, I ended up on the 10 E that I probably should have ordered the 2nd time around. The new shoes are in excellent condition and feel 100% better. I've never thought of my feet as wide but wouldn't hesitate to go up a size width wise in these and down half a size lengthwise. ... show more

  • Good Shoes, Not Great Shoes
Size: 10 D US Color: Black
Call it a four-and-a-half star review. I wear these almost every day, for every purpose and they fit like a glove. Yes, they arrive a bit on the tight side (even if you wear a D width), but they give and conform after about 3-4 days of wearing. The quality is very high for a $300 pair of shoes, but they are a bit soft in the heel cup after a couple months of wear, the seams are not first-rate, and the soles are already in need some attention (stitching is pulling away--this is to be expected--I should have added taps). I should point out that I wear the living daylights out of these shoes--more than most, I am sure. If what you want is great shoes, you should look at shell cordovans by another maker (Alden, Carmina, Noah Waxman, Ferragamo...) For calfskin, I like these enough for the price to add more Allen Edmonds to my collection. Go for it. ... show more

  • Great American made shoes!
Size: 9 D US Color: Black
Allen Edmonds is the great American shoe company and these shoes are a testament to fine American craftsmanship. Wearing them takes you back in time to a time when men dressed like men. When you shaved with a straight razor and put on a suit every morning for work. The leather soles quietly click beneath you and the cork inner soles conforms perfectly to your feet providing the utmost in comfort. These shoes remind me of a time gone by when every man wore leather shoes and had a polishing kit to take care of his investment. You don't throw these out like a thrashed pair of sneakers when the sole is worn, you have them recrafted and wear them for another five years then wear them and repeat. If you appreciate true, American made quality buy a pair, you will love the feeling of becoming an Allen Edmonds man. Just be warned, you will become addicted. Since buying this pair of AE shoes I have bought 15 more pair and now I refuse to wear anything else. They feel so good you will throw away your sneakers and start dressing much nicer on a daily basis. ... show more
