  • It is to Aliens what Alien: Isolation was to the original Alien
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
On the surface Aliens: Dark Descent (ADD) is a Tactical RPG: You have a squad that levels up and eventually gets a class. You upgrade their equipment using resources gathered from missions. What differentiates it from the XCOMs of the world is that you control your squad in real-time, bringing in an element of tension that mirrors the stress your squad is going through. In addition to Health and Armor, you also must manage your squad's Stress and Trauma. Stress goes up during combat or while the Aliens are hunting your squad and once it hits 100%, your marine gains a new Trauma. Traumas are a negative status effect, such as increased ammo consumption, and will go away when your Marines rest or will need to be healed back at base, depending on how your Marine gained the Trauma. This Stress/Trauma system makes ADD unique in this space, as it makes all engagements matter. Running into a single Xeno patrolling can push your Stress higher, forcing you to consume more resources for an encounter later. In regards to the story, it is a new take on an old setup: Marines isolated on a planet with Aliens. What makes the story interesting is discovering the nature of the outbreak and the cult of worship that developed around the Aliens. I can confidently say this is also one of my favorite depictions of the Weyland-Yutani in any of the games: WY's motivations actually make sense and they come across as a corporation that is in over its head rather than a mustache twirling group that has unexplained belief the Alien is a cash cow. Highly recommend this game. ... show more

  • Honest Review from an Honest Aliens Fan
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
The first 5-6 hours of this game are excruciatingly brutal and merciless. The xenos hate you. You should hate the xenos. Take your time to watch tips and guides for just learning the basics, and focus on doing the right things as opposed to the fastest or least stressful things. Every corner you cut in strategy will result in hours of repeat and replay. I'm halfway through the game and absolutely love my marines and what they're capable of when under stress or far away from an extraction point. The save system is not fun, but then again it shouldn't be. Some alien types are instant kills and super frustrating when they slip a perimeter or into your safe zone. They can do massive damage and turn the tide of a successful firefight or seige. As much as I hate a lot of glitches and crashes in this game, I absolutely love it. It's true strategy and commitment gaming. You put the time and focus in and you get rewarded with good marines and tech. Feels like the universe and is establishing a foundation for more games and DLC. True Aliens fans know what I'm talking about. Give this game a shot and be patient. ... show more

  • My favorite “Aliens” game
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
I don’t care what anyone says. I liked Alien Isolation a lot even though I hate “hide and seek” games where you can’t fight back, but I think Dark Drcent is better. You start out controlling 4 marines (you can control more later), and explore different parts of a planet, mostly trying to avoid the Xenomorphs, but you’re more than capable of you have to fight. You upgrade your squad, weapons and unlock classes. It takes a little to figure it out, but once you do, it’s an amazing experience. ... show more

  • Aliens RTS!
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
An Aliens game made by Aliens fans! This is a top down RTS game (think of Narcos). They execute the concept well and load up on lore and nostalgia. All of the unlockables/codex is a nice touch too. Alien-Universe heavy, A++. The graphics and cutscenes at time can show it's budget, but this never detracts from any satisfaction or gameplay. Heart was put into this game, and as an Alien fan, I'm having a blast! ... show more

  • A unique strategy game set within the Aliens universe.
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
Currently at this time I'm still working on this game. From what I've experienced so far I can say this game is meant for hardcore Aliens fans. While playing this game on the Xbox Series X I have noticed several issues which can remove someone from the full immersion of this game. An example of one certain problem deals with the 'A' button becoming disabled after waiting a day while back at your home base. There is a workaround for this problem but this definitely needs to be patched. On the flip side the atmosphere for this game is great. The prologue sequence of the game seemed well done to me. During routine gameplay you will have to learn to tune out the audio feedback given by your marines while moving. Their audio responses can get repetitive after a mission or two. Probably the last thing I can mention for this game deals with how difficult it is. Currently I'm playing this game on normal which is just the right amount of challenge for me. Timing and pacing are essential for this game because otherwise you will be overrun by enemies and forced to reload one of your previous save games. ... show more

  • Lots of Fun
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
I really enjoyed this game. It a was different and frustrating at times for sure, learning how to effectively use all the different squad abilities and what not, but that's the point of a strategy game. I wish it was longer though. Felt really short for some reason.

  • Need to use your head
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
This game is not a run and go crazy shooting game. You have to plan things out or you can get your whole squad killed. This game is for the person that likes challenges more so than just shooting in first person.
