  • Inexpensive, faders and knobs feel smooth and firm, maps right up to Apple Mainstage. Stoked.
Perfect for my application. I am using it with my keyboard rig in MainStage to mix and control several performance parameters. It maps right up and had no problem assigning functions to it out of MainStage. I was using the ipad remote and having problems doing changes on the touch screen. There is no replacement for real faders, buttons and knobs. I am thoroughly pleased with this midi mixer. --- I'd be willing to pay more if it had motorized faders that followed keyboard and laptop changes. ... show more

  • Yes, even though I'm superficial
The AKAI Professional MIDImix, I use with my DAW/ Ableton, to produce Electro-Phonic-Funk. Perfect for the price range and functionality, Got 5 stars because of prompt delivery as well. 1. light weight 2. easy plug and play. 3. ease of use The only down side is that the fader slide buttons, they are good, however not a great fit for finger tips when mixing. Superficial, and yet the sole reason I got the AKAI Professional MIDImix. Still for the price, functionality, and actual unit, is a bargain Scrooge McDuck wouldn't pass up. go for it! • Dead Lights for Generic Usage
I like the quality for a cheap board but be aware as other reivews have said - the lights won't light up and toggle on their own when you press them. They only work on certain DAWs because from what I've read, they need a specific signal SENT BACK TO each of them rather than registering when a signal is sent out FROM them. Using a channel bank to control various audio softwares and streaming apps via Power Mixer app in windows 10 results in all dark buttons for example. The buttons will mute/unmute for example but you won't know what state they are in without the feedback from the lights so all of the buttons are not useful in this scenario since you can end up blindly pressing them a few times to see if the audio is muted or not on that assigned app. Optimally I'd want a toggle light on press option in the midimix editor and firmware so they'd be red on mute and green unmuted but it seems like this has been an issue for years. The exact signals required to light up the buttons aren't given to you either even if you had some kind of loopback software script. I knew this before I bought it so I'll only knock one star but it's still disappointing. Otherwise the unit's sliders/faders and knobs seems solid and useful even if the button functionality is wasted somewhat. ... show more

  • Media server controller
The Akai MidiMix works really well for controlling Arkaos MediaMaster Pro. The buttons and faders are recessed enough where I am not concerned with accidental damage while in storage (I bought a case for the unit separately on Amazon) and transit.

  • Works great with my DAW (Reason) build quality is really good
Works great with my DAW (Reason) build quality is really good, yes its plastic but not that cheap twisty junk....only wish the knobs had a little grip to them to help turn them better....but I can live with that. I have a few of these "under $100" midi controllers/surfaces......this one is the best for the money.....a lot better than the Korg nano series, those felt really cheap to me. cant go wrong for the price. Buttons do NOT light up for me (with reason) but I could care less about that. ... show more

  • Great other than the size
I love the Midimix Control Surface a lot it connects instantly with my DAW My dislikes is that it is on the small side especially if you have big hands like myself but other than that it's a great buy and a good addition to my studio

  • Don't buy a surgeon's scalpel when you want a Swiss army knife.
If you want to use this with Ableton you should have no problem. It is one of several controllers ready to map to that DAW at the push of a button. If you want to use it with other programs or VST's that have midi learn...or would like to see what is on or off while trying to program it to other software...Good Luck. I have several VST snyth engines that use midi learn. Just right click the button and assign...well...usually. I can assign to the mod wheel on my keyboard with no issue. Trying to assign to this was a total failure. In Logic Pro you can assign it if you have the time, but the lack of any lights on the console and no room for bits of masking tape to show what you have programmed is very unsatisfying to say the least. It should at least indicate that it is on...it doesn't unless your use Ableton. I went from having hand aches to headaches. My first and current choice was/is the Korg NanoKontrol2. It was out of stock most places in the US. I would definitely suggest it over this unless you are a dedicated Ableton user. Moral of this story is don't buy a surgeon's scalpel when you want a Swiss army knife. Many have commented on the small knobs. I tested it with an aluminum laptop riser which elevates it above my keyboard on a slant. I find the buttons much easier to access on a slant and it looks cool, even though it doesn't work for 99% of what I bought it for which is why I returned it. ... show more

  • Works out of the box. Is not confined to 1 DAW or another.
For other DAWs one must program their own use per channel. Build quality is great for the price.
