  • Gain control, lose the rolling bouncy-house feeling
I've been waiting to post a review until I had some solid use time with this item. With about 7 round-trips of towing, it's time. On unboxing, everything was solid and well made in appearance. All parts were present and in good shape. Installation took a bit longer than I'd hoped. The biggest single issue was cleanly cutting the jounce bumpers down to the correct size. If at all possible, beg, borrow, or lease time in a garage by with a vehicle lift. I didn't lift the truck at all and maneuvering to cut the bumpers was a chore. Once that was done, however, installation proceeded quickly and fairly easily. I ran the air lines to be accessed behind the gas cap door without any problem--but do yourself a favor and buy some longer cable ties, you won't regret it. I also used a T, so both lifts are fed off one line. Now to the meat--how well do they work? I'm pulling a 6800-lb travel trailer with a 2016 Tundra. After loading, the tongue weight approaches the max recommended for the truck (yeah, yeah, not the smartest thing). and on the pull from the dealership, there was a lot squat and porpoising, even with the mid-range weight-distributing hitch we'd purchased. I'd ordered the Air Lift product after that 3-hour rolling bouncy-house towing experience and did the installation the afternoon before our next trip. The Air Lifts did get the rear-end up to where it should be, which provided a leveler towing experience. Porpoising was all but eliminated and the ride much more positive control-wise. I measured the correction provided by the product and found that while the rear end was fully corrected, the front end lift was not improved, i.e., the front end didn't drop at all, let alone to its unloaded height or anywhere close. That said, I'll reiterate that steering and control WAS improved quite a bit after installation. Bottom line, do I recommend the product? Yup, I do. There are a couple of other things I could probably do (and probably will do at some point) but for now, these work well for me. ... show more

  • Great kit. No leaks. Get the T fitting as well. One less hole in your bumper and self equalizes air between the bags.
Great price. Pretty straight forward install. Took me a helluva lot longer than 1.5, but I'm not a professional and I don't have a rack so I had to level my truck and jack one side up at a time to take the wheel off. If you're a perfectionist and have the required/preferred tools (sawzall, small electric ratchet or air ratchet, jack, jack stand) it might take you only about 3 hours start to finish. Took me about 4, but I like to make sure I don't miss anything and that everything is torqued and re-torqued to spec, the U-bolts were cut off flush, the airlines were cut clean and flush etc. . .and I had never put bags on anything before. Anyway. . . the kit went on cleanly with the help of YouTube and I have no leaks. Been holding 7psi for 4 days (no-load yet to air it up for). I ordered the "Firestone 3025 1/4" steel T fitting" so that I only have one valve going through my rear bumper that airs up both bags equally. Worked perfect. As for tips. . . watch etrailer's youtube video of the install. They pretty much cover everything. Oh and make sure your truck is on level ground. Jacking up the rear with the parking brake on = no parking brake for the most part. Hate to have you drop this on yourself to save $300 in installation costs. Be safe. ... show more

  • Great towing ability
I absolutely love this addition to my 2012 toyota tundra. It makes towing so much easier! Install instructions are great EXCEPT, do NOT install the air connection nipple to the air bag prior to installing in the frame rail. IT WILL NOT FIT IF YOU DO. Install takes less than an hour (including wireless compressor kit) if you don't install the nipple first. Slide the bag into the space shown and then screw in the air connection. This will make the ride stiffer becuase the internal Jounce jumper is taller than the factory one so you engage it quickly if running the bags empty. I have found that 5 pounds of air makes the ride very similar to factory but still STIFFER. You are adding a lot of capacity to towing, reducing the travel of the factory suspension so it is noticeable. It doesn't make it ride like a 1 ton or anything that drastic but if you are accustomed to the smooth soft ride of the toyota, you will notice it. Everyone who rides in my truck tells me it rides great and is very comfortable but I notice the difference. I tow a car hauler behind my truck. I no longer bottom out on dips when towing 9,000 pounds and the truck doesnt settle. I went with the wireless one system for the compressor and LOVE the ability to modify the ride while driving. ... show more

  • Great addition to my truck.

  • Sweet bags so far!!!
After reading the reviews I honestly did not know what to expect other than great towing. I heard everything from "it makes the truck ride like sh*t, but it tows great" to "I don't even know they're there and it tows great"....so I pulled the trigger and installed them on my 2013 Tundra. Install was fairly simple. The only thing that went wrong was the kit came with one bolt for the top bracket that was too large. I luckily had a similar bolt in my garage that worked just fine. Install was fairly easy if you have intermediate experience with tools and mechanical concept. I just used my jack that came with the truck to lift up by the tow package on a flat surface with the parking brake on and chocked front tires (maybe not the safest method but it worked great) I didn't even have to take the wheels off. All this does is make it more accessible to cut the factory bump stops, but this can be done just as effectively with the wheels on the truck. I also recommend measuring and cutting the u bolts before install. The nylon nuts take FOREVER to tighten all the way down if you don't. When doing this, just make sure you smooth out the edges and make sure they thread properly before install. I decided to run the air valves through the top two license plate holes and use them as the plate holding screws to make it look flush instead of drilling two extra holes in my bumper. To do this, you just need to widen the holes slightly with a step bit or carefully with a standard drill bit. Also, I would recommend running the lines first from the bumper to the air bag so you can measure length better and cut what you need. I did not do this and I ended up with a ton of extra line I had to zip tie up under the truck. Once this was done I went back and torqued all the bolts to spec and lowered the truck down and went to inflate the bags and check for leaks. Now, I had heard complaints saying that the ride was rough even with only 4-5 psi in them. I filled them up to 20psi, checked for leaks by spraying water on the air valve and took it for a test drive. I went on the bumpiest roads I could find around me and in all honesty, I could not tell a huge difference. It seemed slightly stiffer, but at the same time I am 25 and don't complain much about a rough ride. By no means though does it ride like a 3/4 or 1 ton 2500 or 3500 truck. I can see from the slight stiffness why some people complain, but it does not bother me at all. I also have a 2.5" leveling kit in the front (no rear lift prior to bags). I spoke with another guy on here who told me he was running the same leveling kit and his truck was no longer level. This may or may not be true, but it is too close to tell. I think my tool box may give an optical illusion that the truck sits perfectly level. I felt my front end was slightly higher before I installed the bags, but now I feel like it is perfect. This weekend I will be towing my 20' toy hauler and I will follow up on the performance. 4 stars for now because of the wrong sized bolt and damaged packaging. UPDATE: Towed my 20' toy hauler this past weekend. Aired bags to 25psi (trailer weighs 7,000 fully loaded) and it towed like a dream. Suspension wise, I could not even tell I was towing the trailer. The only thing that made me remember I was towing was the engine/RPM noise. Between my weight distribution hitch and the bags I had virtually zero trailer sway. The only issue I have is the washers on the bolts are getting pulled through the holes. The nuts are torqued to manufacturer spec, but the washers seem really cheap and are malleable. I will replace these with some larger grade 8s and it should solve the problem. Other than that zero issues or complaints. ... show more

  • 2012 Tundra - Awesome
I started researching airbags for my truck when i bought it in 2012 because any toyota owner will tell you that the max towing capacity is duable from power not always the suspension tho. When i first started looking however the Ultimate was not an option, but for an extra dollar to have the jounce spring in the unit so if it does blead the air pressure and deflate to have that as fail safe was great. Installed it within 2.5 hrs. (I took longer than probably most because i coated all the shinny parts with rust converter to have them all black to blend in with truck and for preventative maintance in future.) Installed extremly easy did not have to drill any holes only had to cut off factory jounce bumber which came right off. I'm not sure if i will buy the wireless air compressor because so far the bags have been keeping pressure and not deflatting. I fill them up with my 5 gal air tank i bought for $25 which takes me a grand time of 60 seconds which includes removing tank from truck, removing valve stem covers, filling bags, checking pressure, and replacing valve stem covers. Really difficult i know. I will worn people if you DO NOT use your tundra to haul heavy loads the majority of the time and use it for daily comuting empty i probably would not buy this heavy of an airbag. The nice luxury ride you get in a stock tundra will no longer be there after you install these. I don't drive my truck empty very ofton, but when its loaded these airbags make a HUGE difference, i dont feel like i need to use my weight distribution hitch anymore for 8000lb loaded trailers. So if you pull trailers with your Tundra, Definatly BUY! Extra bonus, Amazon was cheapest price, no taxs and no shipping costs, PLUS you still get a $50 rebate from Airlift. WIN WIN WIN ... show more

  • Great and low priced. Read my install trick!
Put this on my 2010 Tundra. Youtube videos and Tundra forums had install visuals that supplemented factor installation manual. Problem was pushing the bag into place WITH the air hose connection sticking out of top of bag. Putting that on after bag in place would be extremely frustrating. What I did was after the axle was on the jack stands was realize my jack was just sitting off to the side doing nothing (of course). I grabbed a stick of wood...recommend a 4 x 4 about 18" long. I used it standing on top of my jack to reach the leaf spring connection at rear of truck. NOW PLEASE BE CAREFUL. JACK UP TRUCK BED ONLY ABOUT 2" to 3". NO MORE THAN NECESSARY TO SLIDE THE BAG INTO PLACE and the very slowly lower truck bed while air HSE connector fits into hole in frame above the bag. May take a few tries to be sure the entire bag assembly settle into exactly the place it belongs. AGAIN, JACK UP BACK SPRING CONNECTION TO TRUCK BED ONLY A LITTLE AT A TIME. It will be stable since you are SURE to not lift truck off the jack stands at all! I did this entire install alone and wish I had a wing man to help. This brand product came ready to install without drilling holes for the bag install. Power drill with but driver helpful for installing the Wireless One remote controlled compressor that I chose for convenience purpose. Not required but I really glad I added it! It all shipped from Airlift.com but bought it here. ... show more

  • Must Have for Towing....
I tow a 31' travel trailer (6038 UVW), and I also pick up a 1 ton pallet of wood pellets in the bed of my truck. Having the AirLift 88299 LoadLifter 5000 series airbags installed on my truck makes leveling my truck simple (I also installed the AirLift 25980EZ compressor which makes airing up and airing down the airbags as simple as it gets). Installation of the airbags is pretty straight forward, just follow the included instructions or watch the video AirLift has on their website. There really is no need to have them professionally installed, if you can change your own oil and are familiar with some hand tools then you can install these air springs. Please keep in mind that airbags do not allow you to carry more weight in your truck bed or tow more than what your vehicle manufacturer recommends, they are just a tool to help you level your truck when you have heavier loads on. The best part is no more sagging bed!! ... show more
