  • If you need a water-cooled spindle you can't go wrong with this one.
I bought this to replace a 3 bearing spindle on my Laguna IQ that started screaming and knocking like both the top and bottom bearings were wearing out. I tried to replace the bearings with slightly different ones that my local supplier said would work...but don't listen to them. These router spindles need a special offset bearing. That's what the "S" designation on the bearing number is for. After spending all of that time tearing it down, replacing the bearings and then having it run way hotter (over 70 deg Celsius within 2 minutes) than it ever had before, I threw in the towel. For the price, it didn't make sense to try to mess with the old spindle any more, and I wanted to get back up and running right away. I'll keep the other spindle around, as I've seen some very reasonable bearing sets on Amazon and it would be nice to have a backup. In hindsight, I think that the max. rpm on these cheaper spindles is around 18,000 if you want to extend their life. My old spindle never made any unusual noises until I ran a file that suggested 21,000 rpm on a 3.5 hour run-time. I've done a lot of longer run times over the past 2 years (7+ hours), but I usually run around 15,000-18,000 when cutting wood. Just so you know, you will most likely have to do some wiring (soldering) even if you are buying this as a replacement. There are quite a few variations of these spindles and probably just as many connector variations. In the package that I received there were no wiring instructions but it includes a new complete connector assembly. A Google search will get you more wiring instructions than you need but it would have been more reassuring if they were included or if a link to them was on the ad page. You should do the ground wire in the top cap of course (easy), but the 4-wire connector at the top of the spindle will also most likely be different. There are numbers on the connectors in English (1,2,3,4) so it's not too complicated (take pictures) but in my case the red and blue wires inside the cap were reversed compared to my old spindle, so there was a real white-knuckle moment when I turned it on and tested it! The numbers were all correct, but those two wire colors were different. Everything works exactly as it should and I've run it on several projects so far. But just so you know, when I did try running it a higher 21,000 rpm it sounded like one of the top bearings had a very slight periodic squeal (if you know what bearings that are dry sound like, it was similar to that). Only time will tell. It could just be that I got a bad bearing in this spindle as the noise stopped as soon as I brought the rpm down. It would be interesting to know what other purchasers have experienced but I can only write of my experiences. So far the extended running temperature in a 65-70 deg Fahrenheit room has been between 28-30 deg Celsius and my old spindle always ran between 26-28 deg Celsius, so right in the ballpark. And it makes sense since it has the friction of one more bearing. For the price, you can't go wrong. It seems to be of better build quality than my original spindle and it has 4 bearings! In the long run I'll have to see whether that gives me a longer life or not. But just in case I bought the add-on Amazon warranty. The only reason that this spindle didn't get a very solid 5 stars is because of the slight bearing noise. YMMV ... show more

  • If you're on the fence, pull the trigger.
Shipping was especially quick considering it came from overseas, ordered on 3/16 and received 3/22. I was pleasantly surprised with the run out measurements for the unit I received. While measured with a 1" dial indicator incremented at .001", the measurements I observed was roughly .00015" to .0002" on a .4998" ground pin at 1" out. As another review stated, pin #4 (ground) is not connected to anything; I expected this and grounded to the body inside the cap. I recommend replacing the quick connect fitting, it's not sealed and most shielded 4 motor cables will be difficult to fit if not too large entirely. The fitting is reverse mounted (nut on inside) so the cap will need to be removed and wires de-soldered prior to loosening; I suggest sticking it in a vise as the nut is wrenched on incredibly tight. I did replace the socket head screws used to fasten the top and bottom caps, 2 of the 8 on mine had the hex stripped to the point that I had to use easy outs to remove; screws seemed soft and not like typical 12.9 grade bolts. While there are a few things left to be desired, at the end of the day, the most important factor for many people is run out; for myself, since the run out was excellent, I still consider this a very good buy even though I spent a little extra time and few more dollars getting things how I wanted. Hope this helps. ... show more

I bought this spindle because its a 2.2kw 4 bearing unit, and watercooled. There was oil in the water jacket like there should be if the manufacturer is concerned about corrosion before it reaches the customer. I blew it out with compressed air. I also measured the volume of the water jacket and it is 22cc's. Which I though was a good volume and meant it must have a good water jacket that wraps around the body. The wire terminal has 4 wire pins but pin 4 is not connected to anything. Its a common occurrence with these Chinese spindles. I intend to just earth the body of the spindle by connecting it to ground like everyone else does or, should do. I'll be using this on a CNC router and running it from about 8000rpm up to 24000rpm. So far I'm happy with it. Update: still working great! I'm building another machine and will be buying another one of these spindles. ... show more

  • So much quieter now
Even with the internal fan it is very quiet. Night and day over the Dewalt or Mikita. If you are on the fence about air cooled vs water cooled, I recommend the air cooled for simplicity. It gets warm, not hot, and the noise of cutting material and even the fan on my VFD is louder than the spindle.

  • The spindle is good for the price and I'm pleased that they offered a replacement.
I ordered two spindles and had issues with one and the offered to send me a new one. The first spindle had a weird bearing noise. I now have both up and running and they have been great. I really appreciate the customer service and response time.

So far it seems to be working fairly well. I have only cut a few items in softwood, and some testing in oak. Aluminum will be next. I am not sure whit size ER11 collet it arrived with, but it was slightly smaller than the 1/4" end mills that I had on hand. Plan Ahead. Please note the VFD wiring: Pin 1 - U Pin 2 - V Pin 3 - W Pin 4 / NC ... show more

  • Very disappointed
Solved the problem I was having with my CNC carving grooves into my 3D carvings. Perfect fit on my machine, Only issue I had was the wire had to be soldered to the spindle wiring connector. The wiring positions were different from the old spindle, so when I wired it up it rotated in the wrong direction, switched two wire and it works fine. My first 3D cut with this spindle was flawless. Update...had it just over a month...don't use it every day...only use it for several hours at a time. don't even have 30 hours of use n this and today when I went to carve a small plaque the motor came on, the spindle didn't turn. Now I have to purchase another spindle and will default on the order I had for the plaque ... show more
