Re: Atlantic Furniture Nantucket Murphy Bed Chest The Amazon reviews are spot on. This is a solid piece of furniture when it fits the need. It is well built, but note you should expect a little assembly project (2 persons and a power screwdriver). I am a 70-year old male in decent shape, and did the assembly in about an hour with a handyman helper. As mentioned in the reviews, this piece comes in three corrugated containers, so you’ll have some hefty trash to ditch as well. Amazon’s deliver was just great, right to my front door. The bedding size is standard queen, however, as the mattress is only about 6" thick, the fitted sheet is a bit looser than I'd like. Hard to find fitted sheeting that is not one-size-fits-all. Still, I found it comfortable in a quick test and our first guest (female, 52 years) said it was quite comfortable throughout her stay of two weeks. As you'll see in my photos, I mainly use this bed as a working cabinet in my home-office. Wow…just the perfect size (24.5” top depth) for my printer and cutting board. Frankly, even if I didn't need the murphy bed I would buy this again just for its size/cost/functionality as office furniture... I was tempted to store the mattress in our attic and use the inside for all of my camera gear!! ;o) BONUS! I was surprised to find the bottom right side of the cabinet has two neatly integrated built-in outlets and two USB ports. Fantastic for my guests to charge her iPhone, iPad, and laptop, with an extra outlet for a night light. Brilliant add-ons that were not included in the photos or description when I purchase then unit. I also swapped the hardware with handles that matched the rest of my recently renovated room. This piece is an exceptional piece of furniture and I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it.

I am pleased with the bed and very surprised it was easy to assemble. First, I was grateful to the delivery service for bringing the (3) large boxes into the office. He was a gentlemen and very polite. I expected two people to spend about 4 hours assembling the bed but to my surprise it took less than 2 hours for 2 people to assemble. The instructions were easy to follow and the writing was in large print making it easy to see. The screws to the handles were challenging at first until we figured out if you barely screw in the first screw then the second screw it works best. We love the look of the product but I did notice a few drops of grey paint on the inside of the wood pieces. There was also black marks on the front of the cabinet. Some of the marks washed right off but some did not. We will need to use a little touch-up paint. I have not slept on it yet to know how comfortable it is for overnight sleeping, but I'm sure it will work for our needs. I think the manufacturing company could do a better job of making sure the front cabinet doors are wrapped really good to avoid any scratches and markings. Overall I give this product a excellent review. I plan to purchase another one for another room in my office.

Where to start, this item arrived an amazing 10 days BEFORE it was scheduled! That NEVER happens. It was wonderful because we then had plenty of time to set up before the holidays. It was a tad inconvenient, as it arrived on a day that ordinarily no one would have been home, and we got no delivery calls or confirmation until they were 10 minutes away. Thankfully my husband had taken the day off, otherwise no one would have been home. Beyond that, let me say WoW! This is a well built piece of furniture. And super easy to assemble. My husband and I were able to completely assemble the entire bed in less than two hours. The instructions were clear and well written. All the parts were there with extras to boot. There was one small/narrow crack on the top lid, it looks like the wood split slightly either in shipping or it dried out a bit and cracked. The crack is small and with a bit of white paint will never be noticed. The foundation is sturdy, I am slightly over 200 pounds and I was able to lie on the bed for an hour and it held me just fine. Plus the mattress, while not something I would want to sleep on for nights on end, will work perfectly for a short company visit. The ease of set up is pretty wicked also, you can go from cabinet to bed in less than a minute, or is about 6 moves. And did I mention is it was surprisingly easy to put together! Lastly, storage, I have everything I need for an overnight guest stored in one place, Pillow and top sheet in the bottom drawer, bottom sheet folded up on the mattress, quilt and pillow in the air gap between the front of the cabinet and the mattress. Best of all, this murphy bed is in my sewing room, a 12’ x 10’ sewing room. The bed is able to pull out if I just move my chair, and when set up as a cabinet and not in use, it is the perfect place for my embroidery machine! I do not loose any usable space in my small little room. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this murphy bed. We go the twin size as a queen size was to big. I do wish they made a full size option, that would have been perfect.

Well we received it today ..... 3 boxes - not one - with no instructions. Atlantic Furniture didn't answer their phone, Amazon could not get through to them either, finally we got in touch with Atlantic Furniture and they emailed instructions to me after being on the phone for at least an hour. Husband is putting it together, and I will say that the 70 yr. old woman who said installation was easy and she did it herself, is not telling the truth. About 100 screws, dowels, etc., you have to align the dowels and screw in on the other side of the panel. So now I'm helping him. No clue on how well the thing works yet, but will update. I think Amazon charges $130 to put it together - well worth it as another reviewer said. Hardware for handles did NOT work at all. Husband spent HOURS trying to find a screw that would work - ended up jury rigging a nut on the bolt to be able to put the handles on - why the counter sunk bolt hole? Screws you sent didn't fit, no washers sent AT ALL. Why use the allen wrench instead of using screws - and if you are going to use allen wrench, send one long enough so you can actually turn the darn thing. Still don't know if it even works yet - still not all together. What a pain this has been. No felt padding, had to do it ourselves, mattress is no where 5-6 inches. I'm going to lay on it tonight and try it but not impressed. At least the drawer pulls out, what a relief. Sent a message to Atlantic Furnture - they replied asking me what I would like them to do - that's not customer service.

This came very well packed, and the delivery was impeccable. My husband and I built it ourselves - it only took about 45 minutes and the instructions were very good. The bed itself is comfortable; I do add a foam topper to it when it's in bed form. Storage is pretty limited - without vacuum-seal bags, there's no way a comforter set and pillows will fit in the drawer, even if you leave the sheets on the bed. It is simple to pull out and put back up - I can do it by myself in about 5 minutes. It's fantastically constructed as well - very clearly quality materials. I would (and have already) recommend it.

Okay, this is an actual piece of furniture. We purchased the white queen size. The first thing we noticed is that the finish is paint, not laminate, which means it can be touched up if damaged unlike a laminate surface. It was well packaged and delivered on a wood pallet. The instructions were well written and easy to follow. All the pieces fit together well and the finish was nearly perfect. What we were most impressed with are the materials used to construct this thing. It is seriously made of hardwood, yes, all hardwood and no particle board. It's very heavy, but built to last. The mattress is very nice and comfortable. The only complaint I would have, and it's not really a complaint, is the amount of packing materials to dispose of. Very nice piece of furniture for the money!!!

The looks and operation of this murphy bed are 5-stars. I don't want to discourage anyone from purchasing; however note that you will need to be more than just a 'beginner' when assembling this. If you are, have someone who knows what they are doing help you, and have them bring along with them some spare screws (both wood and machine screws). Some wood glue would also be good to have, as well as a powered screwdriver with a phillips head bit. I was a bit taken back by the amount of boxes that arrived at my house (3), but I was relieved when I saw there weren't many pieces. There's about nine large pieces that you simply have to put together. However, I found in multiple instances that thing just did not fit right. I am going to go over all the steps that forced me to jerry-rig this thing together: Step 2: The top panel fit perfectly, however the machine screws that were designed to attach it to the side panels weren't long enough to go through the side panels and into the top panel. I had to supply my own screws which were about .5 inches longer. This seemed like a clever fix at first, one that I was able to figure out pretty quickly because thankfully I had some spare screws on hand that just happened to be the correct diameter. HOWEVER; what I failed to realize was that the extra 1/2 inch caused the screw to bust THROUGH the top panel. Fortunately I was able to fold and glue the particle board and Formica paneling back into place so that you don't see a big gaping hole, but i had to back the screw out and add washers, which ended up being a whole other thing. Step 3: The holes for the handle hardware weren't spaced properly. i had to bend the handles slightly to get them to fit. This was consistent throughout the product; I'm not sure why they spaced the holes too close together, but they did. Poor machining during production, in my opinion. Step 5: In this step, the screws ended up being too long for the hardware. And before you ask if they were the screws required in step 2, I am going to say 'no' because they are different diameters and not interchangeable. Since these screws were slightly too long, the hardware sticks out of the panel by about 1/16 of an inch. Not a whole lot, but enough to feel it when you pull the bed out. There were also a few blemishes on the cabinet where the Formica had clearly been chipped off, but we were able to color it in with a black furniture marker and you can't even tell. After the second step I became discouraged and decided to request a refund from Amazon which they were glad to process (in fact, they had processed it within an hour) and had scheduled the pick-up of the old item; however I thought that it was more work to put it back in the box than it was to figure out how to jerry-rig this thing! So I cancelled the order and pressed on; and the final product makes me really glad that I did!!

Absolutely love this Murphy bed. So attractive as a piece of furniture but oh so comfortable too! My granddaughters love this bed and can easily take it down and put back up without assistance. I paid for the white glove delivery as the bedroom was upstairs and this bed weighs over 300 lbs. My husband is a builder and had the knowledge to assemble. This bed comes in three boxes with the mattress in one. So multiple pieces. A couple of flimsy pieces but most are substantial furniture quality. The most difficult part is pushing the lower drawers in but we have a carpeted floor and it does rub on it. Overall, I give this purchase 5 stars. Still haven’t found the USB even though it is plugged in😬 The gray is a beautiful piece!
