  • Charming
Comic, manga Both of the young ladies, Yuki and Rin, are extremely shy and read a lot into every smile or kind word from the young men they are fascinated with. Rin, especially, wants to be with the man she's mooning over, but at the same time, she's terrified of being alone with him because of appearing too forward. On the darker side, this system works as long as the men show restraint, because being alone with a man could be perceived by the man as "wanting to be taken." In these sho manga stories, the young men are polite and kind, while the young women anguish over every possible meaning and intention, ready to offer their heart on a platter to cute young man who is well placed financially and/or politically, because the reality is that once feelings have finally been declared, parental approval comes next. The changes in the letters to being sideways is meant to show when the lip reader wasn't sure if he or she caught the word correctly, and with Japanese, phrases can mean what they say, or they can be code for something else. With Yuki being deaf, her uncertainty with every encounter is magnified. The young lady is seriously ready for romance on the barest of pretexts -- he treated her kindly, and her deafness didn't repulse him. Plenty of tropes, but also the possibility of exploring a little talked about segment, the deaf community and navigating among a hearing world. The art is clean and consistent, and the end notes are a treasure trove of social information. Enjoyed. ... show more

  • Tender and Cute Second Volume
I loved the first volume of this manga series, and bought the second volume as soon as I saw it available. Honestly, I love everything about this volume and so far this series in general. Art is always the first thing that draws me into a manga, and the mangaka’s style makes every character unique in their looks and expressions. (I’ve included a couple screenshots to showcase some of Itsuomi’s looks. I enjoy seeing different clothing outfits on characters when days are passing, adds to the realness of the story.) There are so many little details included, from the cute emojis in text conversations to the styling of the character clothing. All the main and side characters are fleshed out and all add to the story. This volume has them showing more of the motives and emotions towards one another, leading to more sweet moments and building tension. Itsuomi is such a great male love interest, and seeing him show further interest in Yuki and watching their friendship grow is such a great slow burn. I found myself saying “aww” quite a few times while reading. Itsuomi is so gentle with Yuki, so tender in how he interacts with her that it’s hard not to like him. And, I like watching Yuki’s progress in overcoming her own hesitation of being close to someone that isn’t Rin or Oushi. Volume 2 had them getting a little bit more physically close, and adding Emma and Oushi’s budding jealousy, I’m excited to see where the series will go and the drama that’ll come with it. I'll admit I don't know much about sign language, but the mangaka does such a wonderful job showing the obstacles Yuki goes through. There are little notes interspersed that let the reader know some of the nuances of Yuki reading lips, and the art shows sign language and lip reading in such a way that flows so naturally with the story. The text conversations Yuki has with others also work well in the story, leading to some really cute/fun moments with her and Itsuomi, and her and Rin. As for the quality of the ebook, the layout of the pages are easy to read and follow, and I could zoom in my Kindle to see little details without any pixely distortion. I think the price is a bit much for a digital edition compared to other digital manga price points, but I love the story so much that I don’t mind supporting the mangaka and this series. Looking forward to the next volume(s)! ... show more

  • Super Cute They Make Me Cry
This volume was just too sweet and they were so cute at the end I almost wanted to cry. I can’t wait to read the rest and I hope they become official too. Itsuomi and Yuki are one of the sweetest shoujo couples I’ve ever read.

  • This is such a sweet story. Yuki is so adorable.
I absolutely love this series! Yuki is just the cutest thing ever, & Itsuomi is totally a cool guy. This Emma, though. Seems she's Itsuomi's ex? It's obvious that something happened between them, which left him bitter & her unable to let go. Now she knows about Yuki. I really hope Emma doesn't try to cause trouble for Yuki, or try to interfere between Yuki & Itsuomi. He's such a tender, caring man. It's obvious that he adores Yuki, & she is head-over-heels in love with him. It's obvious he is completely uninterested in whatever Emma is offering. However, while he doesn't really want Emma around, for some reason, it seems Itsuomi feels obligated to be good to Emma, to watch over her. I'm really chomping at the bit to find out about the past between Itsuomi & Emma. I'm kind if wondering if she's a psycho ex stalker. Those of you who follow my reviews know that I know ALL about having a psycho ex stalker. Sheesh, what a pain! Let me tell you what. Hopefully, Itsuomi can set Emma straight, & soon, & send her packing before she causes Yuki any more grief. And that last page, Itsuomi kisses Yuki's hand, after cuddling & talking with her. It's obvious he really likes her & we already know she loves him. I hope nothing but good things happen with these two. I just worry about what Emma might do. She seems a bit touched in the head, & I can say from experience that unbalanced girls can really wreak a lot of havok. ... show more
