I default to 5stars when I review jewelry in Vine and I do ignore price. I then compare what I receive with what the listing says. Keep in mind that I have a good deal of experience with listings and knowing what they're saying, so this matched exactly what I expected. That said, there are some terms here that would be beneficial to explain what is happening. The piece weighs just under 61grams. The chain has a very hard to detect magnetic signature. It's most likely 316L stainless steel. The listing does claim stainless steel for the chain but doesn't tell you the grade. The clasp is more magnetic - which if you know what S925 means you might question. The clasp is allowed to have a steel spring even in a sterling piece. The clasp would only need to be S925 for the parts of it that aren't required for function. So, you might be seeing this all over and wondering why. Technically there is just enough silver in that and the clasp is probably sourced from a country that is allowed to import jewelry into the US that it qualifies as the most expensive part and the stainless steel chain is attached as accessory to that clasp. You're right it seems backwards, but import rules are on value, not weight. Since the seller isn't claiming the chain to be something it's not, I'm comfortable with the listing disclosures. The plating as 18K gold is interesting. It's the right color for 18K, but it's thicker than plating normally would be. There are actually at least 3 layers that I'm seeing. There is a black layer on top of the stainless steel. That black layer creates a consistent background across the piece and is also there for protection. The gold sits on top of that, and then they've polished a sealant on top of the gold. I don't personally like seeing the polishing myself, but people who look at chains with the naked eye will prefer the polished look. You might have noticed my photos are magnified. I start at 1000X then increase to 1500X and move closer. The final photos are at 2500X to look at the plating up close. While it's the right color for 18K gold, it's also the color you'd see from brass. At this magnification if it wasn't gold it would show signs of oxidation. There are no signs of oxidation. So, I'm comfortable with the gold plating claim. BTW - all those differences you see between the polished and unpolished areas are only visible under magnification. This is a top notch chain. The materials feel durable and substantial, not like the cheap, hollow plastic or flimsy metal you often find. The 18K gold plating over sterling silver has a clean, vibrant shine that looks incredibly sleek. It hits all the marks. The 7mm width is the sweet spot. Bold enough to stand out without feeling oversized or gaudy. The link design lays completely flat against the skin, and the clasp mechanism is crisp, snappy, and holds secure. It has a good, solid weight to it that adds to the overall realism and feel. It integrates into my daily setup very well and looks like a piece that costs significantly more. I’ve been wearing it consistently and there hasn’t been any tarnishing, discoloration, or issues with skin irritation.
