  • Pretty impressive unit for the money. Capable touchscreen device that doubles as a media player.
Honestly, an impressive bit of kit for the money. For a $20 GPS unit, I would have expected a device with heavy input lag and a clunky, resistive touchscreen. But the touchscreen is a very responsive capacitive touchscreen and responds very well to input. There isn't a ton of horsepower in this thing, but the touchscreen feels really nice to use, which is important for any touchscreen device. As a GPS it works well. I live in a somewhat rural area and most of my driving is along roads with heavy tree cover. It takes this unit a moment to lock onto the satellites, but I found it to be reasonably usable once it did. Input stays quite snappy during use. Some nice surprises not mentioned in the listing: it has 16gb of internal storage (8.80 GB free) which you can connect to a computer to transfer books, music, and other media for playback on the built-in media players and e-book reader. File transfers will top out at 10 MB/s due to dated USB technology. Despite the older USB version it runs on, extra points for the use of USB-C connectors 👍. In the hand the device feels rather nice. It has a rubbery matte finish which feels a bit nice. More about the extra features: Tested the media player with AVI, MP4, and MKV files. AVI and MP4 worked fine, but the device wouldn't identify MKV files. Connecting external headphones or speakers via a 3.5 mm headphone jack required for sound during playback. It also calls itself an e-book reader, but in my testing, it would only read .txt files. I tried PDF, MOBI, and EPUB - none of which it would read. Extra point for the included pouch. It's practically paper thin, offering no real protection, but it's huge and can easily fit the whole unit and everything included with room to spare. It might seem a bit silly to call this out, but I've purchased various other electronics and device kits where the included pouch isn't large enough to adequately house all its accessories. The included sun-visor is a nice touch, but it's not the most secure fitment since nothing is really slotted to mate together. In 2003, a feature-rich 7" GPS unit like this would have easily cost over $500. Obviously smartphones changed the game, but a standalone, subscription-free GPS unit like this is still highly desirable. Even if your mobile phone is your "daily driver", this is definitely worth keeping in the car for long trips in case something happens to your phone. If you already use your mobile phone for GPS, this probably won't replace that. But for $20 and no subscription fees, it's worth having just in case. ... show more

  • Nice big display
This 7-inch GPS unit is huge! The large display makes the maps easy to see, and it works well, but there are some catches. For the price, it is a great deal, even with the downsides. The kit includes the GPS unit, a suction mount, a lighter plug power adapter, USB cable, and a sun shade. North America maps are preinstalled, and other maps are available, but some of the places need updating. e.g. Richard's Restaurant in Ringgold closed a few years ago and Pam's Place opened in its place, but Richard's is still listed under restaurants, while Pam's isn't. The map itself seems pretty up to date, so if you enter an address it should take you right to it, but don't expect it to find all the points of interest along the route. The GPS unit includes a bunch of other applications, some of which make no sense. (Clothing sizes? Really?) I didn't try any of these, so can't speak as to whether they're useful or not. It works pretty well as a GPS, which is what I wanted, so I don't have to burn through my mobile data every time we take a road trip. Instructions are pretty good. When you first turn the unit on, it does not open the Navigation app - it opens to the main menu. You have to tell it where the map files are in order to use the Navigation app, so scroll down and tap the Navi Path icon, then select "Resident Flash," then select the correct folder and then the NAVI.EXE file and tap OK. You can enable the option to launch Navigation on startup from that same menu. You might want to update the map before you set the path, because you'll have to set it again after updating. Updating the map requires connecting to a PC with the USB cable, navigating to the Maps folder, "formatting" it (I wouldn't), and scanning a QR code to get the new map. I wouldn't actually format the storage - just make a backup copy of the files on your PC and then delete them from the GPS unit. If you don't have a camera connected to your PC, just go to wanfangmaier dot com (that's where the QR code will take you) and click on the Maps Download link at the top of the page. NOTE: You want the maps that start with ".", NOT the ones for Android. The downloads run about 4 to 5 GB, so be patient. Once the file downloads, extract the file and copy the resulting folder to the GPS unit. Again, be patient - the unzipped files total over 6 GB and will take a while to copy over. Then set the Navigation Path again. The maps are really just the iGO Primo navigation software version 2.4. The company that developed it no longer supports it - they've moved on to Android and iOS apps instead - so don't expect to get regular updates. There are forums and third parties offering updates, if you trust them, but there's no guarantee that "lifetime updates" means your lifetime. The unit will turn on as soon as you apply power. It will also turn off when you remove power, unless you tap on the Sleep button, which will put it in Sleep mode. Then you have to press the power button once to wake it up if you want to use it on battery power. Most car GPS units don't have batteries, so I doubt that I'll ever use battery power. That could be useful if you're stopping for a few minutes, but it would have been nice to have a "No, Stay On" option. The screen has a plastic cover on it for protection during shipping. It works just fine with that cover applied, so I'm leaving it on as a screen protector until it gets scratched up. The kit also includes a sun shade to clip over the display, which actually works well at the correct angle. The GPS unit can connect to your stereo using FM - you have to set the station to use and tune the radio to that station and then the sounds from the GPS will play through your radio. If you connect it this way, you will not be able to listen to an FM station and your GPS at the same time. It also has a headphone jack and an AV input. You can store music files on it and plug it into your stereo's aux port to use it as a music player. The listing claims this is "a dedicated truck GPS," which is not quite correct. You can set the vehicle to Car, Pedestrian, Truck, or RV. And you can enter the height and weight of your vehicle so that it will avoid low bridges, etc., as necessary. On a quick test run the GPS connected very quickly and was easy to see as I was driving. It found my house with no problem, even though I live in a rural area, but as mentioned before, its list of Places of Interest is limited, and somewhat outdated. It's great for navigating to an address or town, but not so good at finding antique stores in the area. ... show more

  • Excellent value for money—saves data and works great in rural areas
Planning a long road trip or a daily haul can get stressful quickly, especially if you are constantly burning through expensive mobile data or fighting for a reliable cell signal in rural areas. Having a dedicated navigation system completely removes that friction. This 7-inch navigator is an excellent, budget-friendly alternative to using a smartphone, offering an immediate setup that keeps you on the right track without any monthly data fees. The massive display is the absolute star of the show. It is incredibly bright and large, making maps and lane guidance exceptionally easy to read at a glance while driving. Crucial metrics—like your current speed, remaining distance, and active speed limit alerts—are clearly displayed. The voice directions are sharp, clear, and easy to understand, allowing you to focus entirely on the road ahead without constantly staring at the dashboard. It even comes with a handy clip-on sun shade that does a fantastic job of blocking out harsh midday glare. In terms of ease of use, the user interface is intuitive and user-friendly once you get past the initial configuration. Out of the box, you just need to set the navigation path in the settings menu to point to the map files, and you can easily toggle it to launch right into navigation mode upon startup. The internal functionality is highly flexible; while it works perfectly as a standard car GPS, it also features specialized vehicle profiling. You can enter your specific vehicle height and weight—making it highly practical for larger trucks or RVs to automatically steer clear of low bridges and restricted routes. The hardware offers great versatility, including an AV input, a headphone jack, and an FM transmitter that lets you route the audio directly through your vehicle’s stereo system. The general sturdiness and build quality are solid, and the included suction cup mount holds the heavy, large-screen unit securely against the windshield without any annoying vibration or slipping. The preinstalled North American maps are highly accurate for navigating directly to specific street addresses or towns, though the points of interest (like specific local restaurants or shops) can occasionally be a bit outdated and require a manual folder update via a PC down the line. Despite that minor quirk, the sheer reliability, clear screen size, and driver awareness alerts make the value for money absolutely outstanding. It is a dependable, well-packaged travel companion that delivers excellent peace of mind on both short daily commutes and extended cross-country hauls. ... show more

  • A little dated, but still a decent little GPS navigator
The GPS comes with a sticky suction cup windshield mount, a USB-A to USB-C data/charging cable, a 12v to USB-C power supply, sun shade with clips, a drawstring bag, user manual, and a card with QR code links to update the map and QR code link to instructions for updating the maps. The drawstring bag is really cheap and thin- the drawstring bag is big enough to hold everything, but there’s not a sleeve or anything included to protect the screen of the GPS unit (aside from the preinstalled screen protector) to prevent it from getting scratched by everything else in the bag. The sunshade is included, but not mentioned, or shown how to assemble it, anywhere in the user manual- the clips slide into the notches on the back of the shade and the shade sits over the screen with the clips on the back of the GPS unit. The windshield mount and 12V adaptor both worked fine. The GPS unit has a built in battery and will work for some time on its own, but will only work for a maybe an hour when using the GPS navigation- there are a few preloaded games, a photo viewer app, music player, calculator, FM radio, Ebook reader, and unit converter that can be used without too much drain on the battery, though. Before the GPS unit will navigate, it needs to be told where the preloaded maps are located by going to the ‘Navi Path’ icon on the bottom half of the home screen, selecting the dots/lines icon in the ‘Navigation Path’ section, select ‘Resident Flash,’ then ‘Map of North America,’ and finally ‘Navi.EXE’ to configure the navigation. Then, the navigation app can be opened and actually get directions to somewhere. Overall, the unit is a bit slow as far as navigating the UI of the device itself. But, the navigation was decent enough. The maps that came preloaded were, from what I could tell, pretty up-to-date and included some new local roads that had been completed in the last year or two. Some of the preloaded businesses and places were a bit out of date, as places had moved/closed. Navigating from point to point worked well. When an alternate route was taken, the GPS unit was fairly quick to reroute. The spoken directions were kind of annoying, particularly in roundabouts and places with a lot of turns in a short distance because the voice would say one thing then say another thing as soon as it finished the first thing. But, the physical navigation on the map was accurate. ... show more

  • Old school dedicated navigator with a battery. Such a low price. Super value and functions well
I had a dedicated nav screen in my car about 20 years ago. Now I do it all on the phone but I've always missed the dedicate screen. I think the reason is that I have to start the phone app tell it where you're going and it takes care of everything but it's still a phone and when I need to talk on the phone, the map gests really small on the screen but its really hard to follow a course and not miss any turns. Their one weakness in real time traffic. Maybe it has this system but I was giving my excuse of a mismatch and not get kicked out. It was worth it. The quality is simply amazing for the price. It comes with a sun hood a big bag, like we're going swimming. It has a cigarette plug and a regular cord. It an take a small memory card to improve things. There is also a suction makr too. The software is not the best when it comes to intuitively presenting controls. It's just a chinese system that has been ported over here but some translations were lost. That said; it's not a big problem and I always figure it out. It has a fairly cluttered screen but it's very clear where to turn and how much time is left Somehow it has a high traffic alert. It does that but I think it's some kind of historical collection of data that can be used for prediction. It won't catch a car accident and reroute you. It has some other cute functions but at the end of the day, it's an effected navigator and it unburdens your phone for playing music and communicating. I always know where to look to find a map. It's a lot easier than the multiple keyboard entries and small screen of the phone, This navigator is like an appliance, always ready to help. As you can tell, I like this and think it's an incredible value. I"m glad I have it. I do wonder why they included a laundry bag with ti. I remember when these were '$400 and we all wanted one. Now they're $20. It also has batteries so if you forget to turn it off, it will run for a while and shut itself off and won't lose your trip. ... show more

  • Large, Easy-to-Use GPS with Clear Directions and Helpful Safety Alerts!
I am very happy with this GPS navigator so far. Right out of the box, it was extremely easy to set up and get running, which is a huge plus if you don’t want to spend a lot of time figuring things out. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive, making it simple to enter destinations and choose routes. The 7-inch screen is one of my favorite features. It’s bright, large, and very easy to read at a glance, even while driving. The display clearly shows important information like current speed and distance remaining, which makes it very convenient for staying aware on the road. The voice directions are clear and easy to understand, helping me follow routes without needing to constantly look at the screen. I also really like the added alerts for speed limits, school zones, and speed cameras—these features add an extra layer of safety and awareness while driving. I’ve tested it on about an hour-long trip so far, and it performed very well. The directions were accurate, and everything worked smoothly without any issues. While I haven’t taken it on a long road trip yet, my experience so far gives me confidence that it will perform just as well on extended drives. Overall, this is a reliable, well-designed GPS unit with great features, a large readable display, and helpful navigation alerts. It’s a great option for anyone looking for an easy-to-use navigation system for daily driving or longer trips. ... show more

  • The Best $20 GPS Unit Anywhere, By Far
This is a great GPS for under $20! You get: * A large, bright, 7-inch color screen * A windshield suction attachment * A dash board attachment * A lighter adapter to power it in your vehicle * A USB-C cable to plug into * An included power adapter for charging * An internal battery That's just the hardware that comes in the box! Software-wise, you get: * The GPS routing software, which works very well * Lifetime freee map upgrades by inquiring via email to the company * Multiple routing options * Multiple color schemes for daytime and nighttime viewing * Multiple software embedded map viewing angles * Multiple graphics to represent your vehicles * Multiple driver profiles * Multiple vehicle profiles * Multiple miscellaneous on-screen tools, such as: * A picture viewer * An ebook reader * A gas mileage calculator * And much, much more! I've used it multiple times and it has not let me down. The only cons I have with it, so far, is the battery gets warmer than I am used to in a GPS, traffic tracking is only hasitoric and not real-time (what do you want for a $20 GPS), and the time function was so hard to find for the routing screens (it was buried in the Regional section). For less than $20, you're certainly not getting a more feature-packed GPS anywhere. I hope it lasts a very long time. ... show more
