I wanted a bookcase that was sturdy and this one fit that need. The shelves are supposed to be wood and I am sure they are of some type / 2 of them had scratches but since not real dents used scratch crayons to cover. It was not easy for one person to assemble/pay attention to way holes pointed on top will make a big difference in assembly process. Also, I did not realize it had the wire supports across the back which I did not like the looks of -don't think you really need to make stable unless in quake area of have children that might climb it!! I bought this five tiered bookcase. I have been to local furniture stores, where they sell you crap for at least $1,000.00 that isn't even real. This is the nicest bookcase I have ever owned! It is made of black metal you put together with lightweight wood shelves. It is really nice looking once it is put together without pulling your hair out to do it. I would definitely buy from this company again. The price was great, the quality was great, they even sent gloves to dust it off and a card with their email if there were any issues. There were no issues. I always read the reviews and this is by far the best item I have found in a long time here on Amazon! Love them! This bookcase was just what I was looking for- iron with wood. The wooden shelves are sturdy and heavier than I expected and it was a breeze to put together (<15 mins). My only complaint is where the black bars connect/ link to one another with screws- as you can see by the pic, the screws are visible from the front of the shelving unit, not on the side. The two pieces connect, but, not seamlessly. It's not noticeable to others, but it is when up close. If the screw was on the side and/or less noticeable, I'd love it even more. Since I'm the only one that will probably notice that part, it really is a great piece; I'd buy again if I need a second bookshelf. ... show more
