It's a bit of a gamble ordering clothing online but I was confident after seeing the reviews for these shoes. My last ones had cheap hoodie-type zippers that arched in a half circle down the ankle (not the best design) and survived 11 years of use daily, but I was sad when I couldn't find them anymore after the zipper stitching detached from the shoe (right along the half-circle point which I knew would eventually be a weak point). Having found these they looked nice and a key item I was looking for was the quality of the zipper, which on these 5.11 shoes is quality duffle-bag quality and much more designed for the wear and tear feet go through. What I wasn't expecting is the quality of the rest of the shoe. Fantastic stitching, SOLID soles and metal caps through the laces. The first few days I felt like I was wearing ski boots they were so solid, but happy to say that 6 days in and they've softened nicely to my feet and are unbelievably comfortable. I wear these as a daily shoe for casual and business casual, as well as for riding my motorcycle. I may order a second pair just for storage since finding a good shoe is very hard and eventually I'll need a replacement. ... show more

From Son: Been wearing for two months: Pros: Solid milspec zipper Pull loop Ankle support Cushion Construction Cons: [minor] Opening of boot “blossoms” out do to unnecessary length/padding above top lacing eyelet No longer in a field job and wanted to ultimate in primarily office boot function (ie. Zipper). I used to wear Oakleys, Rockys, and Garmonts in size 9, read a review saying to order these a half size up and they fit great. I already had my OCP pants sewn with elastic for blousing, and a pair of zippered boots would be the last step in ease of office work dressing. I researched the available boots and quickly found that not all had the mil-spec zipper with the stronger/larger teeth with protective flap behind (to avoid zipping socks etc). So these with the correct color, the solid zipper and the reputation of 5.11 made them an easy choice (especially for under $100). Boy did I make the right call, these boots are awesome! Super comfy, great ankle support and solid construction. I feel confident they’d be fine actually used in the field as well where the zipper would just be a speed of donning bonus. I’ve never worn a zippered boot before and it’s nice to see that the tongue is sewn with enough length on sides to “channel” laces down. So far the only minor issue I have is that the opening of the boot has unnecessary length above the 1st eyelet and it is also padded so it can bow out slightly over the lacing. I think it was somehow seen as a comfort feature but I think it’s just unnecessary fabric/padding. In the end, it is exactly what I was looking for and an excellent deal. I've worn this type of boot for some time now and I'll have to say they never disappoint. I really like how they are durable and comfortable at the same time. I'm the type that lives a hard life style for boots and I've pretty much put them through everything. (With another pair made by the same people I've even ran up rivers and they held up) So for me it's the ultimate foot wear and I practically wear them everywhere besides fancy occasions. I also should mention that I'm flat foot and these boots make up for the fact that I don't have a natural arch in my foot. So in other words they have great arch support.
