  • My 11 year old who has a phone said he’s going to only play this from now on
Color: Blue
I got this for my 6 year old twins to share but my 11 year old ended up with it in his hands and was so excited about it. The crazy part is he has his own phone and all kinds of games in it but he said he knows what he’s going to okay from now on was this little device. He likes the way it has all the good games on it and how it reacts and the options you can choose with the games. I thought it was the funniest thing because he has a $1000 iPhone and here he was truly immersed in his brothers gaming system that didn’t cost a whole lot but I guess now I realize was completely worth the money I spent for it! My twins absolutely love it and were so excited about the games on it. I love that I can charge it anywhere I go and it isn’t too big for me to put into my purse. What a great design and well thought out and yet so affordable. This is totally worth it for anyone with kids. ... show more

  • Fun System for The Very Young & Very Middle Aged
Color: Blue
This is good gaming option sure to distract small kids when you need to concentrate on other tasks while avoiding a more expensive “name brand” system they aren’t ready to appreciate or take care of yet. Surprisingly, it’s also a nice distraction for much older kids like me AKA “Gen-Xers”. Most of the games included are knock-offs of popular games from1980s consoles to the early iPhone-era. Graphics look 2007-ish. They are intuitive to play and very basic since they are geared to young kids. I would put the realistic appropriate age range on this to be 5-8 years old and then 45 and up. Once kids get into the 4th grade, they are going to want (beg for until you relent) a “name brand” consoles because that’s what their friends have and they want to play with their friends, especially online. But also they are probably ready for more challenging games at that point too. I personally enjoy playing it for a couple minutes just to clear my head. I also have Switch, but it’s too involved to turn on for a couple minutes. Turn the Switch on and you are investing 30 min or more. There are a lot of games loaded on this device, but many of them are variations on a theme. Imagine Space Invaders type games with some featuring the enemy floating up, others sideways, and, naturally, traditional falling. Then there are the Tetris-type block games, the kart/racing games, and so on. Every well-known casual and puzzle genre is represented here in multiple forms, just simplified. Even the sports games have this repetition. For example, the object of the basketball game is to stand on the line and shoot at a moving basket. The archery game is identical except archery gear is used. Hockey varies a bit in that the net doesn’t move but two defensive players do. Baseball, on the other hand, is actual baseball with two teams and 3 outs per half inning. Continuing the simplicity them, when the console is turned on it offers four game genres: Casual, Sports, Shooting, and Puzzle. In truth, every game on here is casual, and the “shooting” games are Space Invaders style, nothing violent or bloody. There is no settings sub-menu to customize anything, such a screen brightness or skill level, another reason why 4th graders and up would quickly get bored with this system. Volume is adjustable by a scroll wheel. There is also a headphone jack, which is important because, trust me, the background music on this will drive any adult nuts. The console itself is about the size of an iPhone but twice as thick. It weighs about as much as a couple sheets of paper though. Seriously. In hand it feels like a toy, which it is, so I can’t knock it for that. The screen is bright enough to see in all but the brightest of light. All the buttons and D-pad are more or less punctual even though they are mushy. I wonder how long they can handle day-to-day punishment kids might give them. Don’t be shocked if it doesn’t last a year, but then again, that’s any toy you give a kid in this age group. Battery life per charge, in my use, is about 4.5 hrs, which is less than the advertised 5 hours. But that’s kind of a plus because kids of any age shouldn’t be playing video games for that long anyway. The battery is user-replaceable, which is nice. The one big annoyance to me is that it uses micro-USB to charge. Yuck. I guess you can’t win ‘em all here. ... show more

  • Well worth it! An incredible array of useful brain challengers, puzzle games, card games, and sports
Color: Rose Red
My 11-year-old son previously had a different handheld console with around 400 retro Nintendo games, including classics like Mario and Mario 3. While that console is fun to explore, this TEBIYOU 32-Bit Handheld Game Console has completely won him over as his absolute favorite! This device comes preloaded with 139 diverse games spanning multiple categories—brain teasers (chess, sudoku, blackjack, solitaire, minesweeper), puzzle games similar to Big Brain Academy, shooters, casual games, and a variety of sports games like tennis, bowling, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. With so many options, it will likely take us months to explore them all! While the retro console was fun for nostalgia, the modern game styles on this handheld appeal more to my son. Some games even resemble the 3D style he enjoys in Roblox, and he loves puzzle-based challenges similar to those found in Zelda. One of the unexpected bonuses is how this console helps him learn the rules of classic card and sports games in a low-pressure way. As a homeschooled child, he hasn’t had as much exposure to group sports, so this gives him a chance to familiarize himself with them before playing in real life. We've only played a few sports mini-games before (like baseball on Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch and Monkey Bowling/Golf on Super Monkey Ball), but this device offers so many more sports experiences that we never had access to before. Now, we do! As soon as I told him about the different games, he was eager to try it out. He immediately asked about the buttons and charging (it comes with a charging cable). Even though I hadn’t fully charged it yet, he was able to play right away, and knowing it fully charges in just 2 hours made it even better. Seeing his eyes light up—which isn’t always easy—was totally worth it! It made my heart so happy to see his excitement. Although this handheld console is primarily for my son, I know my two daughters and I will also enjoy playing it when he’s not using it. My son and I love competing in different games (his dad is also a gamer, and I used to play a wide range of video games when I was younger), so I can already see us having fun comparing scores and strategies. I also love that it has a built-in chess game—he recently got a chessboard and was trying to teach himself by reading the rules. This will help him practice and master it more easily. Final Thoughts? An Amazing Value! -Bright, crisp 3.0" IPS screen with adjustable sound -Pre-charged and ready to play out of the box -Rechargeable battery with 5+ hours of gameplay (no need for disposable batteries!) -Perfect for travel – no WiFi or data needed -Incredible value for the price I’m already thinking about getting another one for my nieces because I know they’d love it too! If you're looking for an affordable, fun, and engaging gaming device for your child, this is a fantastic choice. ... show more
