  • 2024-25 Topps Chrome Basketball Value Box
Size: Value Box
A Shiny Disappointment – Style Over Substance I had high hopes when Topps announced its return to NBA cards with the 2024-25 Topps Chrome Basketball set. Given the rich history of Chrome in other sports and the nostalgia it evokes for collectors, I was genuinely excited to rip a few boxes. Unfortunately, after opening both a hobby box and some blasters, I walked away disappointed and underwhelmed. Let’s start with the design — it’s sleek and modern with the familiar Chrome finish, which gives cards a nice premium look. Some of the photography is great, and the borderless layout on select inserts feels fresh. The Throwback Tributes and Supernova Refractors are well-designed and eye-catching. For collectors who are in it for the aesthetics, there’s definitely some appeal here. But that’s where most of the positives end. The biggest problem is the value and the checklist. Topps seemed to go wide instead of deep. There are far too many parallels — so many that it feels like they exist just to fill space and artificially boost pack odds. Pulling a purple wave or speckle refractor used to feel exciting. Now, they’re so common that they’ve lost their impact and value. Worse, a large percentage of them are of fringe players or benchwarmers, which kills the thrill of the chase. Autographs were a major letdown. In my hobby box, the guaranteed auto was of a second-round pick who has barely logged minutes this season. Not only was it a sticker auto, but it was also off-centered — in a Chrome product, that’s unacceptable. The auto checklist lacks true star power unless you’re lucky enough to hit one of the very short-printed veteran or legend autos, which are nearly impossible pulls. For the average collector, you're walking away with a no-name sticker auto on a $200+ box. Collation was sloppy. In one blaster, I pulled two identical rookie cards — same base, same refractor — back-to-back. It’s frustrating when you know the set isn’t huge and you’re hoping to build a diverse collection, only to get duplicates in a single pack. Another major issue: lack of NBA licensing. This is something that’s hard to ignore. Players are shown in generic jerseys with no team logos, and it really sucks the life out of the cards. It feels more like a college or international product than a premium NBA release. For newer collectors, this may not be a dealbreaker, but longtime fans will definitely feel the absence. Final thoughts: Topps Chrome Basketball 2024-25 is a classic case of style over substance. Yes, the cards look good. Yes, there are some fun inserts. But the product lacks depth, quality control, and meaningful hits. Unless you’re collecting a specific rookie or just love the Chrome finish, I can’t recommend this box at its current price point. Save your money and buy singles or look to Panini’s offerings for better ROI and official licensing. Topps had a golden opportunity to make a big return to NBA cards, but this feels rushed, uneven, and ultimately forgettable. ... show more

  • Topps Chrome B-Ball no real bang for the buck.
Size: Value Box
The cards are decent, Topps has no license for NBA this year so no uniform logos etc… No big hits in Blasters, But the cards are kind of cool looking if that is all that matters to you. Unlikely you will make money on these.

  • Gamble as always
Size: Value Box
Why did you pick this product vs others?: New product guaranteed auto but expectations are low as always. Might as well go with a hobby box , I got two of the value boxes and out of both only got one auto and it was a random player I didn’t even know was in the league.
