When I first purchased this portable solar panel, I was skeptical about its capabilities. To be honest, I didn’t anticipate its impressive performance. Let’s begin with the build quality. The manufacturer has done an excellent job with the design and construction. The foldable design makes it incredibly portable, and the panels themselves feel sturdy and well-made, not cheap at all. I appreciate that it comes with carabiners, which makes attaching it to a backpack or hanging it easy and convenient. Since I’m always on the go and carry a lot of tech, I’m constantly in need of extra power for my gadgets. I paired this solar panel with a NESTOUT 15000N portable outdoor battery, and they work seamlessly together for my needs. The solar panels keep my battery charged, and I use the power from the battery to quickly charge my devices. The USB-C ports and USB-A port works great without any problems and allows me to connect to my devices quickly without any delay. Now, don’t expect these small panels to charge devices rapidly. They do the job, and so far, with the sunlight I’ve been exposed to daily, they’ve worked flawlessly. I highly recommend this product. Considering its limitations and my use case, I believe it was a wise investment. Great charging unit and compact for the size it folds up to.

Here’s a polished version of your review: The large blue solar charging unit works as advertised. While it does not charge devices especially fast, it charges them reliably and effectively. However, after only 6–7 uses, the plastic backing that supports the internal USB unit broke. The backing is secured with four screws, but the plastic around the screw mounts cracked and failed. Unfortunately, the backing piece is sewn into the unit, so removing it requires undoing part of the stitching. At this point, the only practical repair option appears to be epoxying the USB unit directly inside the pocket. I can understand why the failure occurred. The USB assembly is mounted to flexible fabric material rather than a rigid support panel. If it had been attached to a stiffer backing similar to the solar panels themselves, it likely would have held up much better when carried inside a backpack with other items pressing against it. This is a great unit for short or long hikes and outings out to the beach, park or wherever you may need to charge a device. ... show more

Steady 17W from DC, 12W from USB-A, 5W from USB-C.

Been using the past two months camping. Getting a steady charge of 11-12W through the USB-A port, 16-17W via the DC, but only 4-5W from the USB-C (tried several different cables). This in full sunlight on a 55-60° mountain day. It will charge with multiple devices, but don't have a way to determine the combined output. The 17W from the DC port is pretty fast charging by itself (using a DC to female cigarette lighter converter, then male cig USB plug). I've tested it several times and it works. Yesterday I hooked it up to a 50,000 mah power bank in the middle of the day. I just laid it flat on an outdoor table. I didn't tilt it to maximize its performance. The power bank started with a reading of 75% and climbed to 85% in one hour. I plugged all this information into Google AI and it says that the solar panel was producing between 18.5 and 21.5 watts. Considering that I didn’t angle it to optimize the power, I think that is really good. There is one little problem. The solar panel doesn't produce a high enough voltage to charge the power bank over 86%. I checked the reading on the power bank every hour for three more hours after the first hour with a reading of 85% and it never got over 86%. If I angled it perfectly it might have gone higher. I don't know. My experiment isn't super scientific, but it is still quite telling. I still give it 5 stars because 86% of that power bank is still 43,000 mah, minus some inherent power loss. That's enough to charge a couple phones and a few flashlights. That's enough for me. Hopefully it will be enough for you. Also, I have had the panel in the trunk of my car for over a year bouncing around and it still works. It easy to connect to and I think that it's worth the money. ... show more

Tested Two Panels and Multiple Devices – Output Drops as Panel Heats Up

I purchased this BigBlue 28W solar panel for charging devices while camping. Unfortunately, I experienced disappointing performance, and I was able to reproduce the problem with two separate panels. I tested the panels outdoors in California in full direct sunlight, fully unfolded and aimed directly at the sun. I also tried different USB-C cables. I initially noticed the problem while charging my Anker 25,000mAh power bank. The panel would initially provide higher output, but as it sat in direct sunlight and heated up, the charging power dropped significantly. To verify what was happening, I used a Klein Tools ET920 USB digital meter. On the first BigBlue panel, I initially measured 5.02V at 1.36A, or about 6.8W. After the panel had been sitting in direct sunlight, output dropped to approximately 4.98V at 0.79A, or about 3.9W. I observed similar behavior with the second panel. I also experienced periods where the USB output appeared to shut off momentarily, causing the Klein meter to reset and restart. To make sure this wasn't an issue specific to my Anker power bank, I connected an iPad directly to the BigBlue with a different USB-C cable and experienced the same behavior. This was important because it showed that the low and declining output wasn't limited to one particular charging device. I understand that a solar panel won't normally produce its full rated wattage under real-world conditions and that solar-panel output can decrease as the cells get hotter. My concern is the amount of reduction I experienced. The panel needs strong direct sunlight to work, yet in my testing its usable USB output decreased substantially after sitting in that same sunlight. Since I was able to reproduce this behavior with two separate BigBlue panels and two different devices, I decided this panel wasn't reliable enough for my camping needs and returned it. ... show more

So Far So Excellent

I bought this solar panel array in late 2024, and didn't end up using it until June 2026. I set it up outside our tent for about 10 hours in the middle of the day, on 3 consecutive days, with daytime temps around 85-90 F. I laid it against a tree facing the sun, and changed it to laying flat around midday, and it was able to charge an iPhone 16 from 20% to 100% in less than 2 hours (didn't catch exactly when it stopped charging). Also used it separately to charge a Streamlight MicroStream flashlight and a portable battery to power extra devices at night. I recommend folding the panel with the output hub (where stuff plugs into) behind the solar panels to keep it cool, and put your device in the shade of the panel. I will be buying another so I have one for hiking and one for my survivalist pack. ... show more

Can't do any better for this price range and product category

Right off the bat, I'm going to start off by saying that this is NOT a perfect product. If you're looking for a renewable energy source solution for any kind of practical or NBC prepping, and you think you're going to find it for under $80, I would suggest maybe adjusting your expectations to something more reasonable and realistic. Despite all that, however, for the price, size and weight of this item, it's an incredible camping and survival tool. Instead of carrying those extra pounds in batteries, you can just carry 4-8 18650s or AAs, and rotate their recharge cycles throughout your trip. If you ever get stranded or trapped because of some environmental condition, at least you know there is no out limit on you having the ability to have a source of electricity. So, your radio, beacon, gps, LED light, etc. have a much higher likelihood of being useful to you days beyond your planned trip. At 28W with three (3) USB charging ports, it's probably the best value for the price (within this product category). It's worth noting that this product is NOT 100% waterproof. The weatherproof sleeve over the solar cells is what keeps the functioning components from making contact with water. The USB charging area is protected only by a water resistant sleeve. My recommendation is to use your paracord to line panels 2&3 completely horizontally, panel 1 on a 45 degree upward slope, panel 4 on a 45 degree downward slope, and the sleeve protecting the USB completely vertically (facing down). This way, you can optimize the efficiency of whatever sunlight is available, and protect the USB connections (and the entire unit) from water damage. You can then try to cover your devices or chargers where the male part of the USB cable connects with a plastic bag. ... show more
