It comes vacuum sealed and quite compressed, so when you open it, there is quite a bit of moss. I had a large planter that needed to be filled in and this moss worked perfectly. No odd smell.

I have a decorative faux olive tree that I love, but wasn’t quite the right scale for my room, as the height was too short. To solve this problem, I elevated it in a basket for extra height. Of course, this brought about a new problem- how to fill in the dead space around it and make it look better. I ultimately decided that I could fashion a “top” of sorts to the basket, using styrofoam, and cover that with dried or fake moss to make it look more decorative and intentional. This bag of fake moss came in remarkably handy for this project. It arrived vacuum sealed in a plastic bag. Surprisingly, it didn’t expand much when I cut into it. I quickly discovered that the moss expanded when I started handling it. You need to break it up into layers or chunks with your hands, but it does the trick. It is quite messy, and you will get “moss dust” everywhere from it. I do wish I knew what this made out of, as I originally thought I had ordered dehydrated real moss, but this is artificial. As it does create dust, I’d like to know what is in this, as I’d like to make sure it is safe to breathe in. Unfortunately, the packaging it came in doesn’t say anything other than “artificial moss made in China”. Overall, it achieved the look I was hoping for and my faux olive tree “pot” finally looks finished. After using this on my large basket, I still have about 75-80% of the bag left. It is a tremendous value.

I bought this "fake" moss to fill out a fall-themed wreath I'd been meaning to put together, but which seemed to be missing something. I was not surprised to discover that the "fake" seems to be a translation issue—this is, in fact, real dried moss that has been dyed a more uniform green, and there is a LOT of it! Anyway, if you're looking for moss that is "genuinely fake," be aware of this. The moss is packed quite densely, so it was easy to pull off clumps and glue them onto my wreath with a hot glue gun. It did dye my fingers pale green as I worked, but the dye seemed to wash off fairly easily. Like any dried moss, it will make an awful mess as you work, since little bits fall off everywhere. But overall, the quality seemed to be good, and the color blends well with the other natural elements on my wreath.

I was really curious about this moss - it looked so real in the photos, but was described as "fake." Actually, it IS real. It's your typical florist's moss. I did go back and re-read the description, and it does say "real dried green moss." When I first took it out of the Amazon box, i was surprised at its appearance. It is a brick, compressed into heavy shrink wrap plastic. It doesn't look like much when you first see it. But, it fluffs up and expands! I'm really happy with it, and the volume is amazing once you fluff it up! I plan to use it in hanging baskets to make the coco liners look more natural. It's going to look really good, and it will go a long way. Eighteen ounces is a LOT of moss! I should mention, it doesn't seem to have any preservatives or chemicals on it. Also, no odors. I recommend it. It's a good value when you consider the volume.

You get so much moss in this package! I was shocked at just how densely packed it is. Once you open it and start breaking it apart, it fluffs up pretty well so you can spread it around the plant. I put it on 2, 5 gallon pots and only used about 1/3 of the package. The colors is a nice green and it looks pretty real!

I dont' know what this is made of but it looks just like dried moss. It is perfect on the surface of my larger plants because it covers the look of the ugly dirt and keeps down the unwanted weeds from growing out of the pot. I really looks just like regular dried moss.
