Got this for my 7-year-old and it’s been a hit! The screen is surprisingly clear and bright, and the built-in games are fun and easy to play. A lot of simple, classic-style games that are perfect for younger kids—no internet, no ads, just play and go. The size is great for small hands, and the battery lasts a good while. We picked this up to let our son have it on a long car ride we had to take, and it served its purpose. He was pretty happy and entertained by it for a few hours off and on, though he did seem to get bored. We did walk him through how to use it as it may not be immediately clear how to access most of the games. When you turn on the device you'll see a list of some game, maybe the "best ones? I'm not quite sure how that is decided. From there, you can directly launch those games, or you can access the Main Menu, and from there you'll be greeted by some categories, and once you select a category you'll see a list of games that you can play. The games are very simple, but they can be fun for a kid to pass the time. Our son (Age 8) really loves having his own system though, even if it isn't a full on gaming system like a Nintendo Switch. We're also happy to see that he is taking care of it too. I comes with a rechargable battery pre-installed, but you can remove it and power the device with 3 AAA batteries if you'd like. Everything you need is included in the box, though you might want to open it up and charge it to make sure its ready for use. The buttons on it are fine, but nothing special. Overall it makes for a nice little gift, and you shouldn't have to worry about a kid getting sucked in to spending hours at a time with it because the games or basic, and don't really have the ability to save or progress on them. One odd feature is there is a compass on the back, and it actually works pretty well. Our son also liked updating us on which way was north, which was fun.
