    • nice inexpensive starter kit

I do some splitboard skinning in the wintertime [snowboarding on a snowboard that splits in half and going uphill] and let me tell you it can be rough. I'm very out of shape. So one day I was skinning up the mountain, going at a snails pace as usual, huffing and puffing and I watch two people with snowshoes just dance past me with their boards/skis strapped to their back. They looked so light on the snow like fairies! So much movement and freedom! I immediately decided I needed to get into snow shoeing instead and I was thrilled when I was able to pick up this kit! I have never snow shoed before, so I'm not sure how this kit compares to others but I believe this is a pretty inexpensive basic kit. It felt pretty light to me - both the shoes and the poles. I've seen much more expensive poles and the biggest difference is probably weight [these aren't heavy by any means, but just not the lightest I've experienced], how small they break down [these, at the smallest size, are still pretty big comparatively to my more expensive pair that breaks down so small I can practically fit in my pocket after I've folded them down], handles [they're fine overall, just feels like inexpensive foam but not uncomfortable or anything like that, I prefer cork but these will work]. The locking system is working good so far. The baskets [the little pieces on the bottom you attach so they don't sink into snow] are also pretty cheap feeling compared to more expensive poles, but they're an easy swap IF they break. As for the snow shoes, I have no experience at all with other brands so just going on what I have here. The binding system is very similar to a snowboard. The straps feel cheap for sure - they are stiff, and not super smooth like expensive bindings, but they work well enough. May be difficult to adjust/take on or off in very cold temps with gloves on though, but I haven't gotten any major stickiness so far. They feel good enough on my test run, feels funny to walk at first as I expected but you get used to it. The frames feel sturdy - I'm around 110 lbs so not sure how heavier people will fare but I had no issues and no concerns with construction so far. The crampons look to be a good size to prevent slipping. Can't wait to take these onto the mountain! I'll update if something disastrous happens [or maybe I won't!] ... show more

I’ve never been snowshoeing before I got these. I’m an avid snowboarder and was looking for something to get my off the resort. They work really well. Easy to put on. The trekking poles are nice and have a comfortable weight to them. That being said I’m not going deep in the back country and I’ve only been out once so far. For the price. I’m very happy with what I’ve got here. They’ll go to good use. ... show more

Right before I started this review, I ordered another set of these snowshoes- in pink! We live in the snowy tundra of Upstate NY where snow sports are mandatory for winter survival. For the last several years, my daughter and I have been renters of snowshoes, but now we are proud owners! She has the light blue and I have the pink- both 25". These sets are an absolutely INCREDIBLE value, especially considering the quality! ☆These are very studry, heavy duty and constructed so well! The shoes themselves aren't very heavy (from what I hear you don't want them to be either), but the 2 adjustable poles have a very nice weight to them. The different caps for the poles are very durable and I really like how they included a variety. I absolutely LOVE how these come with the bag, that is easy to get everything in/out of. It will be nice to throw 2 bags in the car instead of all sorts of gear separately. ☆Bindings are excellent! We have tried these on with a few different boots and they have accommodated them all. The silicone straps are thick but adjust easily and hold the foot well. The ratchet straps are the way to go! They are so easy to fasten, and super easy to adjust when needed. I look forward to hitting the trails and not having to mess with wet, annoying fabric straps. These are very easy to set up/fit to your foot/boot. We haven't had any issues with these coming off the foot. ♡Crampons are very sturdy and have great grip/teeth. ♡The heel lifts are excellent and give a nice lift/pep. These are going to be great for hills and flat surfaces thanks to the lifts. ☆While we did order the 25" according to the weight guide, I love how these aren't too long or short. In my opinion, they are perfect for all types of trails and terrain. We are so excited to get outside and put these amazing sets to good use! Will update with photos when we do! The bottom line is this is an incredible set at an incredible value! While I know many would use regular snow boots or hiking boots when snowshoeing, I thought it worthwhile to note that these will also accommodate snowboard boots if you want to use them for backcountry snowboarding. They're sized appropriately for their weight range, the bindings are surprisingly versatile, have the ice teeth on the bottom and a heel prop for if you're going uphill and want to be more comfortable, all around, a good snowshoe. I needed something larger so I could have a child carrier on without sinking in too much. These kept me with gear and a child carrier on top of the snow and the poles were excellent too. This is a much better kit than I have had before and an exceptional value, I have been recommending these to everyone who asks. The bindings work well even in frigid temperatures below zero. Very easy to slip these off and to get a good secure bind. These are lightweight and pack easily in the included bag, which helps keep the snow off other things.
