I was pleasantly surprised by the 1200Pcs Small Open Jump Rings Jewelry Making Supplies with Pliers, Opener & Lobster Clasps. They're a good value with that many pieces for under $7 (at the time of review), and they're a better quality than I anticipated. The divided storage container has 12 sections, with 6 each for gold and silver jump rings in 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm sizes, plus a section for lobster-claw clasps. The larger the ring, the fewer the number in the compartment. The were a heavier gauge/thickness of wire than you usually get for this price, and should be more durable as a result. They were nice and circular without being doubled over so that they maintained their shape once closed, which in turn made them easy to use. The gold was bright, while the silver-tone looked more flat. There's no way to gauge whether they'll tarnish except to wait for a year or two; they're more likely to just get dull rather than to truly tarnish. I'm not making fine jewelry, so that's not an issue I'm concerned with. If I were, I'd be buying a more expensive product. But for inexpensive earrings and bracelets, these are perfect. Also included in the kit were a pair of bent-nose pliers, which are of a considerably lower quality: very coarse, with lots of burrs and machine marks that I had to file down to make them useable. There is a pair of cheap metal tweezers that aren't good for much except to fish a jump ring out of the container, though the ring-style opener worked well enough.

What a great little kit! I've been working with jewelry for ~40 years, and I am continually surprised at the innovation and incredibly low prices for jewelry items today, both in the retail jewelry category and the crafter's vertical. Although I use a very different method for opening and closing jump rings (a single specialized tool), I think this kit is amazing! These tools are very easy to use, work extremely well for the task at hand, and, if I had learned this method as a beginner, I probably would have stuck with it. The jump rings in the kit are made of stainless steel, rather than the more traditional copper-based alloy, but they are still very easy to use. The clasps are not steel or copper-based but made of another white metal I have not been able to identify, since I'm only equipped to test for precious metals. There is, of course, a steel spring inside the clasps, which is normal. The jump rings are of good quality, virtually all fully round, with both ends meeting flush with each other. The goldtone and silvertone plating is solid: no base metal shows through, and the color is uniform. The same is true of the clasps' plating. A spot check of the clasps shows they function easily and well, and all the different-sized jump rings easily fit the connector loop on the clasps. This is a really well-designed kit! The only small negative I could mention is that the pliers are a bit crude. They have light gouges on them that look like they were made with harsh steel brushing, probably a by-product of a low-quality manufacturing process. This is only worth mentioning because tools like this can damage jewelry and leave tool marks on the jump rings. This isn't a real big deal in beginner handmade jewelry, but something to be aware of. At some point, you'll probably want to upgrade this tool. I'm not deducting a star over it because it's really a minor point in the overall value of this great kit. This kit is an exceptional value, and I highly recommend it!

We’ve tried a bunch of craft kits over the years, but this one has come in real handy! We have a bunch of these necklaces that have broken links or clasps and this kit made fixing all of those take no time at all. We literally had a small pile of things we planned to fix at some point, but, until now, we never got around to it; mostly because we didn't have the hardware to do it. First thing I liked is that everything is in one place. Each link size and clasp has their own little box in the still compact larger case. And each of those little boxes has its own lid, so if you drop it while its open, you don't have a nightmare scenario of trying to resort the hundreds of little pieces. The case keeps everything organized, which is essential for me. There’s a good variety in here, too. Sizes for both silver and gold, which makes matching your existing jewelry or projects super simple, and also having variety for a new craft, as well. The quality is better than I expected for the price. The tools are solid and quality. I think I'll probably use the pliers and the tweezers for other uses in my tool kit. They are well-made. I also like that it’s portable. You can close it up and take it somewhere without everything spilling everywhere. That alone makes it easier to actually use instead of just sitting in a drawer. I only wish it would also accommodate the tools that came with it to keep them all together in one kit. Overall, this is a great little kit. Easy to use, compact, and quality materials. If you want to fix that stockpile of old necklaces that live secretly in your drawer, this is the thing to do it.
