Features

  • Lightweight Design: highly integrated all-in-one smart telescope. Seestar is a compact body that integrates a telescope, electrical focuser, astronomical camera, ASIAIR, altazimuth mount and dew heater, all weighing only 2.5kg
  • Clean & Low Noise Images: the professional-grade triplet apochromatic optics provide crisp images of the night sky while maintaining excellent control of chromatic aberration. The included high-quality coating on the lens helps reduce light loss and enables you to get the most out of your visual observation
  • Full-Automatic Find & Track: with your phone, you can easily get access to tonight's best, target GoTo, live star database view, and other functions. Auto voice broadcast will tell you the current imaging progress
  • Powerful features with Seestar APP - EQ Mode, Plan Mode & Mosaic Mode: EQ Mode uses an equatorial mount setup, which is a more accurate way of tracking objects in the night sky compared to the standard Alt-Az mode. The Plan Mode enables you to select multiple targets you wish to capture, set up the necessary parameters for each, and schedule when to shoot them. The Mosaic Mode can automatically stitch two images together from adjacent patches of the night sky. This allows you to get larger fields of view than normally possible, like a panorama photo can

Connect it to various photography tripods through a 3/8" screw thread for stable and precise positioning.* The tripod features a 363mm maximum extended height and a 274.5mm compact storage length

  • DOGS in SPACE
I bought two. I highly recommend this. It is great to have up and running while doing observation sessions with other scopes. You can keep photo momentos from your gazing sessions. Not unlike the awkward pictures we get after riding roller coasters. Sans the funny face and subtle embarrassment. You will fully cherish the pictures of the sky. Great pics, easy to use, educational, clever - there are many laudatory things to say about this product. It makes astrophotography accessible to the neophyte. It makes astrophotography easy for the initiated who find themselves too tired to fuss with a traditional, labor-intensive rig. While I applaud Spartan discipline and salute those who open the heavens by mastering astrophotography, there is nothing wrong with occasionally taking the path of least resistance. We can't all climb Everest when we want to go outside. A stroll in the park has its place. That is what the S50 represents. You can create astounding images of astronomical objects with no specialized or technical knowledge. The app is intuitive and easy to use. The device obeys with monastic discipline. The only preexisting astronomy skill one need master to use this device is the ability to determine if it is dark outside and cloudy. I have struggled more to program a coffee maker than I have in using this astrograph. Like I said - a stroll in the park. Not to descend into the weeds on an Amazon review, but the device is also more versatile than appears at first glance. For example, it has a mosaic mode that allows imagery to be stitched together to form a larger image (lay this feature on the Orionic cloud or Andromeda galaxy and you shouldn't be disappointed). For further example, you can pull images directly from the device for bespoke stacking, and stack amongst multiple collects on multiple nights. These features make the scope more than the sum of its parts. This rings particularly true when considering limitations regarding the field of view and the alt/az mount. (If I have lost you at this point, do not fret - just know that this scope can do more than expected and has advanced features/tricks to keep things interesting). Writing of sum and parts, the value this device represents feels criminal. Cue Fiona Apple. Roughly five hundo for a triple apochromatic and all the auto imaging trimmings?! You cannot price a piecemeal rig with these specs for anywhere faintly near this price. This is a stellar value... that pun hurt me too. I can feel your eyes roll. But do not miss the point - This is an incredible value. If you are looking for the smart scope pièce de résistance, the Celestron Origin currently holds that title in my humble opinion (at the time of writing this. I expect this market to evolve quickly. Far future readers can snicker, but I am right in this moment.). The Origin is certainly worthy of consideration. I want one. That RASA is something else and it appears to be worth every penny of the 4k asking price. But if you are not so well heeled as to be able to dish out 4k for an astrograph, or so inclined for any number of reasons, this S50 is perfectly acceptable solution that will still allow you to make the mortgage at the end of the month. Even in acknowledging that the Origin is generally superior, I still think this scope has its place. It is highly portable and robust. It neatly occupies a happy intersection of compact form factor, ability, and price. If portability is your chief concern (for hiking?), consider the upcoming S30. In conclusion, this is a great product. Please consider. I recommend this wholeheartedly. This product deserves five stars (this is a pun-rich environment but I will spare you here). It certainly advances the hobby of amateur astronomy. All things stated above are mere opinion and consider at your own risk (don't sue me). PS: You can photoshop your friend's pets into astronomical photographs for extra fun. Bow to the absurd and all. I wish you clear skies. ... show more

  • Beginners or hobbyists who want a quick-start setup: point, press, get images.
What it does well It’s incredibly easy to use—set up the unit, level the tripod, connect via WiFi, and you’re ready to go in minutes. Very portable: all-in-one with built-in mount, camera, refractor and battery. Great for casual astrophotography, outreach or beginner use. Excellent value: for the price you get a package that previously would need separate telescope + camera + mount. Decent optics and features: 50 mm aperture apochromatic refractor, f/5, with internal camera and tracking. It’s very stable with the tripod it comes with in multiple different ground types since it’s adjustable, also falls in the category of stability ... show more

Very nice and amazingly easy to use. A good deal for the price imo! The scope works flawlessly, and so does the app. Pics below are from my first week or use. You will find more of my astro pics on the Seestar S50 group on Facebook.

  • Fantastic Telescope!
I own 11 telescopes, a variety of astro cameras and Ive been astro-imaging for about 40 years. I pulled the trigger on the S50 half out of curiosity, but also because I thought it might be a great 'toy' telescope to play with. It never occurred to me that ZWO, the maker of most of my serious astronomy cameras could make a great all-in-one imaging telescope for less than $600. All I can say is 'Wow!' This thing is absolutely fantastic. From the time I removed it from the box until the time I was imaging M31 (Andromeda Galaxy) directly overhead was approximately 20 minutes and that includes 5 minutes of software updates. It connected effortlessly with my WIFI network and my Galaxy Tab. You may be tempted to watch YouTube videos about how to get the telescope up and running but many of the steps described in those videos (like manually walking the telescope around in a circle to calibrate) may be either no longer required or unnecessary as my scope automatically performed the task after powering on for the first time. I have included my first image with the Seestar S50, which took approximately 6 minutes - hardly enough time for the Cessna-sized mosquitos in my backyard to find and begin ravaging me. Will this replace my serious imaging rigs? No way. There is a reason they cost thousands of dollars. But if you've been curious about astro imaging and would love a compact, inexpensive scope that ANYONE can set up and begin using in less than a half-hour, the S50 is absolutely terrific. ZWO really knocked it out of the ballpark with this telescope. I've never had a ZWO product fail or disappointment me and the Seestar S50 is no exception. I can't recommend it enough! ... show more

  • Fantastic value for the price ease of use with great results.
This telescope exceeds all expectations especially at the price point. ZWO has knocked it out of the park on packaging all good quality components needed for begining astrophotography. The quality of the images are very good, no problem but higher than anticipated. Results are due to small Aperture which is good for DSOs but not that good for planets outside of the Moon and again. The intuitive SW AP is simply amazing with a plethora of useful features. At this stage, I am not convinced an investment of 300-500 % is worth the increased resolution results. I highly recommend this easily transportable, high quality telescope to open up and expand any star gazers hobby and overall experience. ... show more
