Description

What if growing older didn’t mean slowing down? What if your 50s, 60s, and 70s could be your most capable, confident, and vital years yet? In this inspiring, science-based guide, author and lifelong martial artist Jimmy Lockett shows you exactly how to reclaim your body’s strength, mobility, and resilience—no matter when you start. You Can Still Move with Ease and Strength blends the latest research in exercise science, neuroscience, and healthy aging with the proven principles of Applied Cognitive Fitness (ACF). Whether you’re a lifelong athlete or a complete beginner, you’ll discover that it’s never too late to train your body—and your mind—to thrive. Inside, you’ll learn: Why traditional “aesthetics-first” fitness fails us after 50—and how to redefine success in ways that actually matter. The Longevity Triad—the three most powerful predictors of lifelong vitality (muscle mass, VO₂ max, and mobility). A simple, three-tier system that guides you step by step:Tier 1: Daily movement habits that restore energy and confidence.Tier 2: Intentional exercise to rebuild strength and endurance.Tier 3: Performance training that keeps you agile and powerful into your later decades. How mindful movement—whether it’s walking, yoga, dance, or martial arts—becomes both a physical practice and a path to mental clarity. Clear, adaptable practice plans, self-assessments, and progress tracking—so you can see exactly where you are and where you’re going. Why your beliefs about aging are as important as any workout—and how to rewire your mindset to keep growing.Whether you want to regain lost strength, prevent falls, boost your energy, or simply feel at home in your own body again, this book will show you the way. You are not too old. You are not too late. You are not done. You are just beginning a new chapter—one where you train for the life you still want to live. Read more

  • This One Got Me Off the Couch!
Format: Kindle
This book kicked my almost-70-year-old butt right off the couch, and I'm grateful for it. Lockett's three-tier system isn't just theory—it's a roadmap that actually works. The Longevity Triad (muscle mass, VO₂ max, mobility) gave me clear targets instead of vague "stay healthy" nonsense. What really hooked me was the Applied Cognitive Fitness approach—finally someone who understands that our brains need training as much as our bodies. The mobility snacks concept is brilliant; I can squeeze in movement throughout my day without feeling like I need a full gym session. The mindset shift from "aesthetics-first" to function-first was eye-opening and honestly liberating. Could use more specific meal planning guidance to complement the exercise routines. Perfect for anyone who's tired of being told they're "too old" or that slowing down is inevitable. Lockett proves that 50, 60, 70+ can be your strongest decades yet, if you're willing to do the work. This isn't feel-good stuff; it's practical science wrapped in motivation that actually sticks. Anyone ready to redefine what aging looks like and willing to invest in their future self should pick this one up. ... show more

  • Rediscover your strength at any age.
Format: Kindle
After trying a ton of fitness books, this one finally made sense to me. It is very useful because of the three-tier system and the Longevity Triad. Even though I'm only in my early 60s, I've already improved my mobility compared to my 40s. Jimmy's martial arts training is evident in his grounded, all-encompassing, and motivational style. ... show more

  • Hope for any age!
Format: Kindle
This is a very inspiring book! I liked the mind-muscle connection and the importance placed on muscle mass and resistance training. The author also emphasized how vital exercise is to increasing brain health. The simple concept of moving your body , whether through exercise, walking, or doing Tai Chi every day. Another very helpful idea was the mobility snacks that were discussed. ... show more

  • Stronger at any age
Format: Kindle
Jimmy Lockett makes you believe it’s not too late to move better, feel stronger, and age with confidence. The Longevity Triad framework and step-by-step tiers are motivating. I only wished for more real-life stories, but overall it’s a hopeful, science-based roadmap to lasting vitality.

  • A Science-Backed, Hope-Filled Roadmap to Staying Strong at Any Age
Format: Kindle
Strength Exercise Science: Gain Confidence, Mobility, and Vitality discusses this triad of health and factors needed to optimize for those three. The entire book is based on this. This may be one of the most inspiring and helpful books that I have read. It manages to combine everything you really need to work on: muscle mass, mobility, VO₂max, mindset, and daily habits in a simple to understand and follow way, but one that is also evidence-based. Above all, the biggest part of this that I liked was that it seems so achievable. The three tier system provides you with steps that are doable, as opposed to some fitness books that seem to be steps to never-never land, and the Longevity Triad gives you some specific measures that you can track for progress in a very straightforward way. Mobility snacks are one of the most brilliant ideas ever. This isn’t about getting an hour on the treadmill, it is about small movements throughout the day that can keep you limber and your joints lubricated. In a way, it was empowering to read it, because this book applies to everyone, regardless of whether you are 50, 60, 70, 80, or whatever. It is never too late to get stronger and move better and be more like the person you used to be. I also really liked that there is an emphasis on brain health and mental fitness as well. This is often left out of fitness books. It is not often that you get a book that has all that and can make it so easy and realistic to accomplish. If you are looking for an inspiring, science based plan for getting stronger at any age, this book is definitely worth checking out. ... show more

  • Inspiring, Science-Backed Motivation for Staying Strong at Any Age
Format: Kindle
Jimmy Lockett’s You Can Still Move with Ease and Strength at 50, 60, 70 (and Beyond) is a refreshing, empowering approach to lifelong fitness that’s as much about mindset as it is about movement. Lockett combines modern neuroscience, exercise science, and real-world coaching wisdom to deliver a guide that’s approachable, motivating, and evidence-based. The book’s greatest strength lies in its practicality — it introduces The Longevity Triad (muscle mass, VO₂ max, and mobility) and a three-tier system that builds daily movement habits, intentional exercise, and long-term strength maintenance. Each chapter feels like a personal training session with a mentor who genuinely understands the body’s changes over time. More than just a workout guide, it’s a manual for confidence and independence, emphasizing adaptability and the mental side of staying active. Lockett’s encouraging tone — “You are not too old. You are not too late.” — resonates long after you close the book. Smart, inspiring, and deeply motivating — this is one of the most accessible guides to aging with strength, grace, and purpose. A must-read for anyone ready to rewrite what “getting older” means. ... show more

  • It's not just about appearance, but how you feel and live.
Format: Kindle
This book is a must for all middle aged and senior couch potatoes. It starts by getting us to think about fitness differently; it's not about how you look, but more about how you feel and the ability to live the life you want. The need for movement is emphasized throughout the book, and not just formal workouts, but incorporating movement throughout the day. The author gives us many ways to improve and measure our health. Purchasing this book is great investment toward better health. ... show more
