An autobiography told through comedic stories and funny dialogue

This book by Seth Rogen is somewhat of an autobiography, told through a series of humorous stories about his life. You can tell by the style of writing that Rogen started out as a stand-up comedian, and in fact the first chapter of the book is about his starting stand-up at age 12. Each chapter has some funny dialogue that Rogen recalls from a period in his life, and he is great at telling these often self-deprecating stories in a way that makes them amusing and fun to read. You end up learning a decent amount about Rogen's life and upbringing, while still being entertained by his crazy experiences and comedic writing style. Rogen's style of comedy might not be for everyone, but if you have watched any of his movies, then you should have some idea of what to expect. The chapters are almost like little movie scenes because of all the dialogue, and you can almost picture him acting out the scenes he describes. This really makes the book overall feel like a script for an autobiographical comedy movie. If you're a fan of Seth Rogen, I would imagine you'll enjoy it. ... show more

Funny

It's not laugh out loud funny but it's still funny in its own way. It's not in chronological order but more of a set of essays about his life and unique encounters with other celebrities. I was hoping he'd dive deeper into what it was like to work on most of the projects he's worked on like Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, this is the end, and whatever projects he's been into in recent years. Some laughs and insight into Seth's upbringing

This is an absolutely great book. I find it to be an easy read that keeps me interested and amused. I've read a couple of reviews that were upset that he mentioned "liberal ideas." The ironic thing is that the same person probably wasn't upset over the display by the domestic terrorists on 1/6 but finds the one sentence that Seth wrote about marijuana offensive. I digress, this is a book about Seth's life and he does not drone on about politics. If you enjoy Seth's work and would like some insight into how his career came to be this is the book for you. I actually have a lot of respect for his work ethic after reading this. He's worked hard achieve his goals and started at an early age ... show more

A hilarious read!

I am a fan of Seth Rogen and a native Vancouvernite too so I bought this book to show my support. But it’s such a good read, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rogen’s very candid and often hilarious take of his own childhood and teenage years in Vancouver, and then his a humorous look at his adult years in LA through an insider’s view of Hollywood as a writer and actor. I laughed out loud so many times! But there were also some touching moments here and there about his life which makes you appreciate his sense of humor and Rogen’s down to earth character as well despite being a big name in Hollywood these days. ... show more

Fantastic read!

This book is a collection of stories from Seth’s life. It’s a hilarious read with a lot of stories of awkwardness and fantastic stories about getting high. I got it Friday afternoon and finished it before bed - good solid entertaining read. I could hear his voice in my head telling me these stories - several of them had me laughing so hard I started to cry. Thanks for writing this great book. Bummed... book was a bit negative

Seth Rogen is so talented and the beginning chapters are great. From his movies, I always think of him as super open minded and accepting of anybody. His beginning where he's describing his younger days is so amazing and funny and positive... but then he gets into some negative judgmental territory that is just like a wet blanket. It makes him feel old and cynical. I didn't like that he bashed on everyone- like George Lucas, Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage, heads of studios, etc. He also was kind of self-serving/hypocritical- there's a part where he hires a guy with a Tiger for his movie... the guy helps him and then he gets the guys business shut down and calls him fat. You think he'd be sensitive to fat shaming, but apparently not. Also, he bashes Twitter and then says follow me on Twitter. And also is negative on any other religion except Judaism. And he puts down people who like to drink socially but loves drugs. He's funny/talented enough that he could've kept his open minded approach and still told the same stories without the negativity.
