This wine rack was easy to put together with a rubber mallet. My lady is a wine club-a-holic so she always has more and more cases of wine coming in. It is sturdier than I thought it would be for something you hammer together. It is a pretty good size and fits a ton of wine, though champagne bottles only fit the top row. It is very stable, we were worried since we are in NorCal that it could tip in an earthquake but we had a swarm of midsize quakes hit and nothing budged. It is much more stable and solid than expected. The wood is raw so you can stain it or paint it but we left it raw. I don’t think there is a higher capacity or more sturdy wine rack for the money. The wood seems sturdy enough, although I would have liked it to be a bit thicker. The rack goes together easily, but it is best to make sure it is level when assembling. It is also good to have a small hammer to tap the pieces together as you go, to make sure the rack stays stable and level. The racks has a great capacity and seems to be holding up well in our basement wine area. I am pleasantly surprised with this wine rack! I needed added capacity, so I ordered this one based on favorable Amazon reviews. It assembled easily, and is very sturdy. I am not worried about the safety of my wine! I suggest using a drop of wood glue at each joint, and I used a rubber mallet with a discarded wooden block to seat each joint. This combination made it rock solid. I also stained it before assembly since I was not keen on the natural wood look.) ... show more

Like a Lincoln Log kit for adults. This is an absolutely simple and functional rack. It took very little time to turn a disorganized bunch of wine bottles into an orderly, easy-to-find collection of excellent California vintages. Nicely designed and manufactured product. Mine went together perfectly. I would not attempt this job without a rubber mallet or you are asking for trouble. I had two slots that were uncomfortably tight so rather than forcing I widened just a hair with 60 grit sandpaper. Product is pine but meaty enough to be of good quality and is well sanded. Decent design, lousy manufacturing. Wood does not fit well. Need to hammer it together, which inevitably leads to splitting. Should have at least tried to seal the wood.
