I also bought some cheaper long sleeved shirts at the same time I bought this one. Having both relatively cheap shirts and this at the same time helped to illustrate the differences between them and allowed me to figure out what value this brings over cheaper competitors. The answer is that this is a really, really good shirt. I use it to play tennis during the hottest parts of the day in Florida in the summer. Cheaper shirts are okay, but they don't provide as much moisture wicking. This shirt however, was on another level. If you're an athlete or doing serious physical activity that demands you be kept cool, I can't recommend this enough if you also want sun protection. It's not going to miraculously keep you cooler than a short sleeved shirt. But it is far more tolerable than less expensive long sleeved upf shirts, just make sure you wear a light color. If you're not exerting yourself heavily, there is slightly less value in this shirt over cheaper alternatives. But if you run hot and sweat a lot, you will love this. ... show more

Ever since I got this, the sun hoodie has instantly become my go-to for anything in the sun or where I might sweat. I have retired all of my button-up hiking shirts, which are much less comfortable, have less sun coverage, and are covered in unnecessary bits and pieces like breast pockets, collars, pleats, and buttons. The sun hoodie does everything better. The great thing about the hood is not just the coverage for your neck and ears, but the fact that it's thin enough to go under a hat to hold it in place. The Willit is quite a nice product for the price. The fabric is lightweight but still feels substantial, durable, and stretchy. It is very comfortable and has held up well through numerous adventures. I went ahead and picked the lightest possible color to reflect the sun: white. I really like the way it looks, and I went into it expecting it to get stains. Sure enough, it has picked up a few, but that doesn't bother me because it's a rough-and-tumble activity shirt and it gives it some character. It fits well overall, although it does run a bit small. I would recommend going up one size, since you want it a little loose for airflow. My t-shirt size is usually L but I ordered an XL, and I'd say that the sleeves are just barely long enough—using the thumb holes feels like it pulls too much and isn't comfortable. One feature I might wish for is a kangaroo pocket, but it's not necessary if you have pants pockets. Highly recommended, get a sun hoodie ... show more

This shirt worked as advertised: no sunburn while at EPCOT on a family vacation. I'm a red head and fair complexioned and nothing from the wrist to my neck got any red at all. Like any long sleeve shirt, it was quite warm in June (though I bought a white shirt). I wore a 100% cotton short sleeved shirt over it unbuttoned all the way in the front. Dont expect this shirt o be as comfortable as 100% cotton for breathability...the weave is small and close (to keep UV Ray's out). I bought a large (I wear Large in shirts) and it was a little looser than snug. Buy your normal shirt size. Wash it on a more gentle cycle (to keep from getting picks in it) and just hang it over something for 10-15 minutes to dry. It definitely dried fast after getting some rain on ourselves at the park. I do not use this for working out, but I will wear it fishing. It will probably get ruined/stained, but as long as it keeps me from getting sunburned, that's the ticket. ... show more

I bought this to wear at a camping music festival where the temperatures reached 95F and there was hardly any shade to speak of. I didn't wear sunscreen on my arms and this shirt prevented my from getting burned. It wasn't as breathable as my merino wool gear, but still great for the price. Soaking the shirt in water helped a lot. I usually wear a medium, and size small tends to be tight to form-fitting. I bought a small and found it seemed to fit more like a medium, so you may want to buy a size down depending on how you like your clothes to fit. ... show more

If you have a neutral-positive ape index, the sleeves are short. Not really a problem unless you are trying to use the thumb holes, in which case the sleeves are awkwardly tight. Overall this is a bargain compared with the same stuff sold by name brands.

I am 5'11" 210lbs. I wear XL in most shirts. This shirt fits well, provides protection, and is surprisingly cool even in the very hot midsummer Florida sun. I wear it as a rash guard when surfing. The thumb holes keep the sleeves down when paddling my surfboard. Very handy. I can recommend it without hesitation. I own several long sleeve sun shirts from various name brands. I do like this shirt. I am even wearing it as I type this review. The fit is good I like the thumbs holes and the hood. Dislike: it is thicker then some high end sun shirts. Would I get an additional shirt … maybe “great fall shirt”
