My husband is a big guy and I checked out all kinds of brands. Sizing seems to be quite an issue unless you can try them on in the store first. I did not want the hassle of returning these so just picked a good brand and the size my husband usually wears. Bingo, I got it right the first time! They may actually be a little long but he likes them that way. There is plenty of room for extra layers underneath, but can still wear them with just a normal layer of clothing.
