It was 1973, I lived in Holland, had friends in Delft and remember Alquin as group of the same caliber as WAR and Supertramp. No drum machines, just nice music. The best song on this album is the instrumental Soft-Eyed Woman. It has everything what a good song should have: sensitive beat, soft guitar, hard guitar, flute, bass.     • Mixed bag
It is shame, yet understandable, that Alquin's initial studio albums "Mountain Queen" and "Marks" ( both classics) appear to be unavailable on Amazon at the moment. Instead we are presented with several compilations. You need to know that this great prog rock band soon lost their roots and the follow-up studio releases of "No one can wait forever" and "Best kept secret" morphed into rather bland and uninteresting pop/rock (my opinion). Therefore, any complition which seeks to showcase all four of the band's albums together is going to lack consistancy. ... show more

Having both of Alquin's earliest CD's (Marks and Mountain Queen), this was the CD that actually stirred my interest in them. A compilation of all four Alquin albums, this CD covers their emergence as a unique Dutch prog band up to their somehwhat disappointing later releases, in some people's opinion. Alquin was a six piece band (dual keys, bass and drums, and sometimes dual saxes) that combined pop, rock, funk and R&B influences, complete with some amazing vocal harmonies, and a good dose of goofiness. This CD will not appeal to all fans of Alquin, especially the purists that consider the aforementioned albums their 'classic' period. A good place to hear Alquin if you can't find Marks or Mountain Queen. ... show more
