  • Comfort, Style, and Build Quality
When I opened the box and got my first look at these shoes I was immediately impressed by the quality of materials and overall build quality. Taste in shoe design is a personal thing but I consider myself a shoe guy and for me these are really unique and cool looking shoes for barefoot style shoes. Trying these on I immediately knew I would keep them and the online VIVO Barefoot size guide worked out well for me. Slipping these on is a bit clunky with the soft upper wool collar but once they are on and snugged up these shoes are super comfortable. Others have already stated this but for me they are like a contemporary rugged moccasin. That’s really the feel they convey to me. Comfort and ground feel of a moccasin but with enough sole protection and grip for trail walking and hiking. One word of caution is that the comfort and feel of these boots will make you want to wear them a lot and until your feet get used to the zero drop barefoot style shoe you should pace yourself and transition in a way that lets your feet strengthen and condition properly. I immediately went out and hiked several miles in mine and immediately felt some plantar fasciitis pain in one of my feet. Nothing terrible but certainly brought on by that abrupt change. Bottom line is that I am 100% satisfied with my purchase of these boots and will likely by another pair of VIVO shoes/ boots sometime in the future. One note worth mentioning. The ad for these shoes listed them as a “W” wide build. I have a fairly narrow foot and initially did not buy these because of that. After reading reviews I noted that buyers were complaining that the shoes were not “W” but were “M” instead and this was a negative for them. Reading those comments I took a chance and ordered and they were indeed “M” and not “W” which was perfect for me personally. So hopefully that helps reinforce that fact so people are not mislead. These are not your typical LEMs type super wide shoes but instead a nice natural foot shaped toe box that better fits folks with medium width feet. ... show more

  • Well worth the price.
I can’t say enough good about my Vivobarefoot shoes. I love to hike and shoot wild life photos and these babies take me there. Comfort is unmatched by any competitor. I have tossed all my other Merril and keens and use nothing but Vivobarefoot. Those I have talked into switching have come to the same conclusion and tossed their other shoes. I have several styles and not been disappointed with style, comfort, quality and longevity. The wide toe box and minimal sole to the shoe make for a natural stride and posture. My knees and back don’t hurt anymore. ... show more

  • Effective, but not quite barefoot shoes
Firstly, they're ugly, but all of their shoes are ugly. The sock style uppers are uncomfortable and difficult to make waterproof, even tho this claims to be waterproof shoes. It's been cold and my feet have been freezing and wet... this is definitely not a winter shoe. The tread of this shoe, made or designed by Michelin tires and is not very flexible, compared to other barefoot brands. There's more flex than a standard shoe, but the tread doesn't not allow for true foot flexibility, like left to right flexing or toe curling flexibility, as is expected of a barefoot shoe. In short, a tire company is not suited to make barefoot shoes, although this tread might be good on a traditional boot, it's far too rigid and unyielding for a barefoot shoe. I'm giving them a 4 star, because this shoe will actually serve for my purposes in giving my feet a wide toe box, and a black boot style that is acceptable at my place of employment, and because the shoe feels like it's solid enough to last a reasonable time. ... show more

  • Comfortable out of the box
I've been wearing thin soled minimalist shoes for a long time. All of the thicker soled hiking minimalist options on the cheaper end were uncomfortable (whitin and others) - I've owned about 7 or so pairs of vivos over the years and most of them were comfortable. Just so expensive! So I've been buying cheapo $20 to $40 range minimalist shoes for about 2 years - but, of course, they wear out in 6 months or less. I am very pleased these feel great. They feel very flexible, still, though the soles are thick. 100% protected instead of feeling every grain of sand (like I'm used to, and don't get me wrong, I like) but you do still get feedback. I just realized how limited you can be in rough terrain, when 32.5% of pebbles or rocks hurt your feet, on any outdoor trail, so I needed a new pair and they had to be Vivos. The ankle support you need in a hiking shoe still feels flexible, with these. Which is important; a tight ankle can ruin the minimalist experience and feel so I usually avoid them. The wool top feels great, in other words. These were a steal at $158 at discount. If I could have afforded the all black ones I would have went with them, they look better to me, but the style and color of these are nice, too; the leather feels and looks very high quality. I'm sure they will only get more comfortable. ... show more

  • If you like walking barefoot, and want a rugged hiking boot
These are the boots I've been dreaming of. Between knee, lower back, and foot issues, I've learned that I do best with a zero rise heel, and for years have worn various shoes that are zero or slightly negative heel rise. Except for hiking boots. (Trail runners were my go to, but some trails demand more shoe.) They always seem to have fairly tall heels. These are truly incredible. The sole has thick lugs, that grip very well. The back of the boot is mainly a heavy elastic, wool blend that makes them a bit harder to put on, but they really stay on, without needing to tighten the laces down into you instep. The tow box is huge (by most shoe standards—if you're a Birkenstock wearer, you'll be used to it). So, the end result is your foot feels fairly unconfined by the boots, but they don't wiggle at all—the footing is VERY secure. There is fairly complete flex to the sole, front to back and side to side. So, you feel like you are walking in a double soled all leather moccasin—almost like barefoot, but with a slight sense of separation form the ground. You are aware of every slight change in grade. The sole is thick enough to protect you feet bottoms from sharp rocks, but you will be aware of what the surface you are walking on is like. For the first time in years, I can walk most trails without really looking where I put my feet—which allows me to enjoy the trail views that much more. However, if you are on more technical trails, that might involve edging, the flexibility of the soles would be an issue. I have since bought several pairs of Vivobarefoot shoes and boots. They are made very well, and the materials seem top notch. I feel like this boot is a bit of a specialized shoe, so it's hard to make a blanket recommendation on, but if you know you like zero rise heels, I'd give them my highest recommendation. ... show more

  • These are a toyota. Built to last without the flash. Structure where most fail.
From maintenance at large buildings. To conquering 14ers. And stumbling home after a long day. Comfort grip and ease of the modern ankle cuf to the dependability of a tire sole and thick leather its the best of all worlds. Shorts. Joggers. Jeans. Hiking pants. Heck you could wear a kilt. I just purchased my 2nd pair of these exact ones after wearing previously for a year almost every day. I got them for work and they have become my everyday go toos. ... show more

  • Super comfortable shoes with great toe room
I LOVE these. They really do feel like you are walking barefoot. I love the width at the toes; it makes them sooooo comfortable. I have strangers come up to me and ask where they can get a pair. I recommend them strongly. The only drawback is that you can't just slip them on; you have to sit down and lace them up every time--a small price to pay for their great comfort. ... show more

  • too narrow compared to other barefoot shoes
overall first impression it was too narrow for barefoot shoe, but built well. and size was a bit off it was narrow and taller then what was expected it didn't arrive with oil to treat the leather when it's stated in their website that it comes with. (nothing mentioned in amazon) it's too stiff now, but according to other reviews it should breakin in about 2-4 weeks, I will update after. ... show more
