  • Just What I Needed
Format: Kindle
As a complete newb to VR I needed something to get up to speed. This book did that and more. Years ago I had an idea to use images, suggestions and audio in a VR environment for self improvement/healing. Upon investigation, I was disappointed to learn that the technology was in its infancy at the time. Now, 13 years later I realize we're just about there. This book was truly an eye opener for me. The author impressed me with his knowledge of the topic and actually over delivered with the material. The applications for this technology are numerous and the author addressed many of them in detail. The book is well written and not skimpy in content. There is also a nice resource section with links and references for each chapter. Well done. ... show more

  • a solid all-round intro to the potential and reality of VR
Format: Kindle
Sky Nite has done an admirable job of illustrating the scope and limitations of current-to-next-gen VR. If you have only recently been introduced to VR through technology like the Oculus Rift, Gear VR or even the HoloLens or Google Cardboard, then this book will give you a clear insight into what is possible, where the industry can go and the opportunities that lie ahead. A second edition would tighten up the language and update the technology. There is also massive scope to go deeper into the concepts and development challenges and opportunities. Bang for buck, you'll be hard pressed to find a better resource on Virtual Reality. ... show more

  • Overall a great read, and would recommend to any professional or enthusiast in the space.
Format: Kindle
This book is very well-written and to the point. Nite takes a practical approach describing the current landscape in VR, the different products and researches going on in the space, and observations that are both clear and actionable. I also found the recentness of the book to be one of its greatest merits. All of the content is current, and Nite offers a great many insights on how different VR technologies interact with each other and are shaping the fast-growing industry. I've always be greatly fascinated by the applications and potentials of VR seeing its development in the past few years, and VR Insider's helped me organize all these different pieces of information to better understand VR's general trend. ... show more

  • Bad that it was too general and I could feel ...
Format: Kindle
Positive that it included a lot of references and was short. Bad that it was too general and I could feel subjective bias towards all VR related.

  • Clear, complete, and instructive
Format: Kindle
I've been fascinated by the VR industry for a long time. This book contains a great overview of the current state of VR and Nite offers an interesting theory on the direction that things are going and what we can expect in the future from VR. Because the author's background is in writing and business, I expected the discussion to be mostly from that point of view but contrary, he shows a complete understanding of all aspects of the industry including mechanics and development as well. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in getting involved in the VR industry or simply enamored by it and in want of more information. ... show more

  • Looking to get started in VR? Look no further. The most thorough and comprehensive guide I've read to date about this industry.
Format: Kindle
I've always been interested in virtual reality, as the possibilities for this industry is endless. Due to its relatively novelty (for now, at least), I have found it difficult to get a good, comprehensive overview of the current state of virtual reality, and where things are headed. This book is the best I've read so far. It is clearly written and detailed, with a fast-paced, engaging tone that makes it easy to digest and learn from. I highly recommend it to anybody looking for a great read about VR! ... show more

  • As someone that works in the VR industry, I expected much more
Format: Paperback
If you have no idea of what VR is and what's the potential behind it, this is not a bad read. But for everyone else who is acquainted with the technology and its potential, this book doesn't offer anything new. On the contrary, you'll constantly stumble on mistakes, outdated info and some heavy speculation that's not very well backed up. And the speculation in this book was a problem. The author doesn't clearly separate his personal opinions from the facts and information he's giving out, which is bound to misinform some readers. Overall you won't find a lot of depth here - just enough to get rolling if you're completely oblivious to this technology. ... show more
