  • Some Incorrect Parts Included
Although I am impressed with the design and build of this case back opener, I was disappointed to note that there was an error with the lug jigs that were included. They are supposed to come in matching pairs, (2) 20/22 mm; (2) 17/19 mm; (2) 15/13 mm; and (2) 11/9 mm. Mine did include the correct count of the 20/22 and 17/19 mm jigs, but there were (3) of the 15/13 mm jigs, and only (1) 11/9 mm jig. It is probably unlikely that I would be opening watch cases with lug widths of 11 or 9 mm, but it would have been nice to have a complete matched set. There are no instructions included, but it's not that difficult to figure out how to use it. ... show more

  • Quality Tool
If you work on watches, I highly recommend you buy something like this instead of the cheaper hand openers. You will save your watch case backs from scratches. This tool works well but there were no instructions in the box. I figured it out though.

  • Absolutely a good and affordable took
I put off buying one of these arbor style caseback removers for many years because of the high investment cost of both the Bergeon or Horotech versions of this tool. I use many of the aforementioned brands of presses and bezel removers and hand presses and such but had to pump the brakes at >$1k just for a caseback remover. I just stuck to the old Jaxon style wrench and proceeded with a lot of caution. I accidentally stumbled across this affordable priced version on Amazon and despite the mediocre reviews, I decided to give it a try and if it didn’t live up to $145 worth of my expectations, I could simply return it thanks to Amazon’s generous return policy. The tool arrived in quick fashion, very well packaged and was more than I’d ever expected…well worth the cost paid. Fit and finish were very good, all the bits and pieces were accounted for and they snapped in very well. This thing makes waterproof watch caseback removal so much more peaceful. It just works! It works well and I only performed two very minor enhancements to make it suit my tastes. First, the arbor return spring that holds the arbor up-off of the watch was ever so slightly weak feeling with the weight of tool head when installed so I removed the shaft, stretched out the spring and while I was at it, I wiped off the cheap feeling factory grease and applied some of my favorite red lithium machinery grease. This made it spring back with good motion and the heavy weight grease made it move much smoother. Secondly, the tool tips that fit into the caseback slots were ever so slightly sharp from the machining process. As they were, they could scratch a highly polished back so I chucked each one up in a hand vise and polished/deburred the tips on a bench mounted, scotchbrite buffing wheel. The tool is now 100% functional to my liking and a great buy at $145. A very worthy alternative to a Bergeon or Horotech style tool. I’m glad I found this and with maybe 30 minutes spent on my enrichments, it’s well worth the time spent considering the roughly $1,000 I saved over the Swiss made version. Overall, a great purchase, sturdy, well built and fully functional. ... show more

  • Needed modification but good for hobbyist.
I gave it 4 stars because it's fine for a hobbyist with infrequent use. Mine required modification to install the oyster fitting holder. I had to carefully file it for about 20 minutes with a jeweler's file to make it fit into the main shaft. It's not great quality but it definitely gets the job done. The seller did a horrible job packing the tool. They put absolutely no packing inside the shipping box - zero!! The tool knocked around inside the box and opened a couple holes. Fortunately, none of the parts got lost. I got lucky. ... show more

  • Open it up - sans scratches
Like other customers of this watch opener, I have advanced from buying watches and just switching out bands, to actually modifying the watch to my liking. This includes dials, hands, bezels, chapter rings, bezel rings, and crystals. Most of these modifications require you to get into the watch. After scratching up the back of some prized watches, I had it, and decided to go ahead and invest in a professional watch opener, instead of fumbling with those hand-held openers. They do the job, but I was no longer willing to take the risk of scratching up a case back (not very professional) - especially if a friend trusts me to work on their watch. Mine did not come with instructions, so YouTube it is. The item page in Amazon has the best info for now. I use the 2 lug holders (dies) instead of the 4 case holders (see pic), as these seem to center the watch case under the vice better (since the accessory watch holder for odd-shaped watches did not center it properly). Sufficient lighting is needed so you can see the vice chucks fit into the case back grooves snugly. It does have some heft to it, comes with plenty of accessories, and feels like a quality item. The tiny hex wrench supplied does not fit the set screws for the chucks, but they did not fall out. ... show more

  • finally, a product that works.
Have been looking for this product for years. Found it, but the price was 986.00 from the Swiss company. Finally found this product for 169.00. Since purchasing, I have not found a single watch that I could not open. Worth every penny.

  • Great but...
Overall it's a great tool. However, there is a quality control issue. The one I received has an issue with one of the arbors. The shoulders on the arbor are roughly 1mm to wide to fully seat. Of course this is the arbor for Rolex style case backs which for me, is the more important one. I'll machine it down which shouldn't be difficult. Still that's not something a 4 or 5 star product would require. ... show more
