I wouldn't say this is velvet texture but a close polyester dupe. They do smell very much like bad plastic upon opening the bag but I always wash anything I wear on my body before doing so and the smell was instantly gone after washing. They aren't as poofy as the scrunchies from the 80/90s but I actually prefer a slimmer scrunchie as I have thin hair. I only received them a couple days ago so I can't attest to long term quality yet but so far they are comfortable and secure without being tight on the hair.

I was surprised at how good quality these scrunchies are!! They are a really nice “velvet” and great color variety. Bought for our Operation Christmas Child boxes and will definitely buy them again for OCC or for our family.
