I love pickles and these are my favorite! Good "sour" pickles are hard to find. These ones have excellent flavor and texture. And they're HUGE! I don't buy many things that are individually-wrapped, but pickles are ideal for this because I don't have room in my fridge for a big jar of pickles. I just open one of these when I'm ready for one. They also make a fun present. My only complaint is they're supposed to come with a free sticker and there was no sticker. I have since selected auto-delivery so maybe the next shipment will have the sticker. As for the price, I think the price is good. As a pickle connoisseur from the old days, this more than fits the bill for a briny snack packed in a single serve bag. It’s salty and tasty, and the brine is excellent as the base for a pickle shot. Perfect balance of crisp and not-so-crisp. I appreciate the gourmet pickles in the fancy sections grocery store and the snappy Clausen garlic types in the condiments aisle, but sometimes you just want something unpretentious and delicious. The warheads sour pickle tastes really good if you like sour pickles. It’s not overly sour, but seems to be a little more sour than the original Van Holten’s sour pickle. I initially bought the 6 pack to try but am now ordering the 12 pack also. My favorite is Hot Mama but this is second best to me. Someone said the pickle smelled rancid but that’s not true. I love the Van Holten Hot Mama Pickles, so much so I have bought cases of them like 45 times. That being said, when buying on Amazon make sure the pickles are being shipped from Van Holtens and not some other distributor. Every time I have ordered from a different distributor, there is issues. Some bags are leaking. Sometimes I don't think they are stored properly or may be old. I have had some that were so soft, mushy, and gross I have had to throw most of them away. So, just make sure if you want good quality ones. See who is distributing them on Amazon before ordering. ... show more

    • Well, now we're in a pickle
Ok, first, let's hit the salt issue. It's a pickle. Pickles are salty. These pickles are delicious, and as far as the pickle itself being "too" salty, I'm just going to have to go with "no." The brine is amazingly salty, and while I normally covet the brine as an extra treat, this brine teeters on the edge of being an inedible substance. And yes, I do detect a significant hint of the plastic container in the brine flavor, but not in the pickle. But since the pickle is the thing being sold here, I'm just having more than a little bit of trouble holding any of that against the product. I do wish it were less salty and free of the plastic undertones, because as I say, I love brine, but I also strongly suspect that this nuclear brine is part of why I can have a non-refrigerated pickle in a pouch that can live in the light and room temperatures and not find it a well of Bacterial Horror. Having said that, the way Van Holten's rates the pickle is 1/5th of a pickle is a serving, and one serving is 16% of your daily recommended salt intake, so if you eat one of these pickles, you just chowed down 80% of your sodium allowance (referenced to a 2000 calorie diet.) Which is, how shall I put it... a pretty aggressive salt intake. Looking at another product I buy locally from a national supermarket chain, it's 1/2 pickle is a serving, and for that, you get 9% of your salt intake, so 18% per pickle. These pickles, however, are much smaller than the Van Holten's, so we're still looking at a lot of salt for the same amount of pickle. I've worked through about 1/2 the entire package, which is about six pickles, and I have to say that these are very consistent in terms of flavor and size. The only thing about the pickle itself I'm not that fond of (and hence, 4 stars), is that there is a low-to-moderate level "hot" flavor component, as if some peppers were used in the brine, which is definitely not my cup of... ok, brine. Even so, I'll be buying more of these; there's nothing comparable on the market here. I highly recommend them if you're a pickle aficionado. On the other hand, if you're not, you are definitely going to notice that salt level, and likely you'll not repeat the experience. The good news there is that there are many milder products out there, just work your way methodically through your supermarket's selections and you'll likely find something that suits your palette. ... show more

This brand is one of my favorite. I love their pickles. But after receiving this pack, it was horrible. The pickles were EXTREMELY SOGGY. I will never buy these from Amazon again. And I might think twice before buying elsewhere. I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth after this experience. So, if you want soggy pickles, these are your best bet. But if you're looking for crisp crunchy pickles, DO NOT BUY THESE. I thought it was the first pickle I grabbed from the pack, but it was the same thought the entire pack. Why?!? So disappointed. And it's not like Amazon or the Van Holten's brand area going to make this right. Such a bad experience. WASTE OF MONEY!! Beware. ... show more
