  • Works with Linux, Plug in headphones first!
I bought this to use with my Manjaro linux desktop machine. At first I thought it didn't work, because I plugged it into the USB port and nothing showed up. I immediately started searching the web for setup / configuration info and couldn't find out how to make it work. Turns out there is a quirk of this hardware - Even if it's plugged into the USB port, it won't show up (under linux at least) until you plug in the headphones or speakers into the dongle. As soon as you plug them in, it pops right up. Works for both audio out and mic in. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed to add a combined 3.5mm jack to my desktop PC
I hate wearing bulky headsets and spent a lot of time trying to find a way to connect Apple Earpods to my desktop PC since desktops only have split headphone and microphone jacks. Almost all the standard adapters out there do not work with Apple headsets because Apple uses a modified CTIA standard. This adapter said it will work with any standard and it seems true. Both sound and microphone work, however this adapter uses a generic audio driver so there is no Microphone Boost option in Windows. The microphone volume seems quieter when I tested a recording, but when doing voice calls people have said my microphone sounds just fine. Also know any inline volume controls do not work on headsets. I am just glad I can finally use a lightweight headset on my desktop PC which works good enough for gaming chats. Also I should mention the build quality of the device, it is made of metal and seems solid. Some similar devices I've seen use a generic design and just put their brand logo on it, but this product seems unique and from a brand I have actually heard of. I would have preferred a cable adapter, but as a workaround I have a 12" USB extension cable that I plug the adapter into. ... show more

  • It save me from buying a new laptop.
I tried every fix for my laptop not recognizing my headset. -Uninstalling and installing audio drivers. -Uninstalling and installing Windows (several times). -I also installed Linux and didn't work so I made sure it wasn't a weird software bug. I play FPS games on my laptop so a heatset is a must. I was sad because I thought the only solution was either getting the port changed and fixed by a professional or just buying a new laptop. So it was going to be expensive. Thinking about a solution at 2am while I couldn't sleep I remember that a lot of MacBook users need an adapter because they don't have many ports. I googled USB to 3.5mm mini jack, found this product and bought it immediately. I couldn't be happier, it solved my problem and it was the cheapest solution. ... show more

  • It works on Solus Linux with Pulse Audio
It works. Seems made of quality stuff so far. I'm using it with an inline (phone) headset plugged into my PC which is running Solus OS Linux. To get this working in Discord to speak and to listen, for example, I had to use Pulse Audio (free audio settings control program for Linux), go under Configuration settings, and, once plugged in, choose USB Audio and set it to "Analog Stereo Duplex" - "duplex" reflecting input & output (microphone and earphones), apparently. So far, so good! ... show more

  • It's weird
Verified working on Windows 10 2004 and linux kernel 5.7.0 with built-in drivers. Audio sounds okay. Microphone works okay at appropriate volume levels. This device has some weird behavior where it changes it's USB ID when you plug something into the jack. With nothing plugged into the TRRS jack it's USB ID is 0bda:48f0, but then when you plug something in it resets itself and reappears as 0bda:49b5. This identity morphing behavior is a problem if you want to redirect the USB device to a virtual machine or are otherwise planning on the device not freaking out every time you jack in or out. Other than the strange USB behavior, it's good for a cheap device. ... show more
