The assembly was fairly simple, though it did take me a couple of hours. I was able to assemble myself, but the package is heavy and should be handled with a buddy. My only complaint is the styrofoam it’s packed in, which fell apart easily and needed some cleaning. But it’s sturdy, gorgeous, and looks better than the $1200 piece that inspired this purchase. It comes with a wall anchoring system but I’ve also pulled on it and tested it without, and it doesn’t tip easily. Anchor it for safety, but know it’s a really well made piece. I might get another. I ended up with three. Two for books and one for physical media. Love them. Tall, quick to put together. Very easy to build. Takes less than an hour and you are done before you know it. Only thing, if you have soft backs, books ends will be desired but worth it. I can display all my collection w/o having to stack books behind each other. Took my husband and I a long time to assemble. Looks good., I had my orchids outside and they were getting burned so I bought two of these to put my plants on, We haven't assembled the 2nd one yet. It, hopefully, will be easier to assemble.

I got this to turn into a cat tree. The unique step shelving and height made this ideal to be a cat tree while looking much better than the typical carpet covered monstrosities on the market. Packaging: 3/10. protected the product during shipping but created a huge mess. The cheap styrofoam exploded out of the box because a lot of it had broken in transit. Thankfully the styrofoam protected the product from any major damage but I spent an hour vacuuming static-y bits from everything in the room. The bag of screws also opened in transit so I had fish out all the screws from the explosion of styrofoam. Assembly/Directions: pretty terrible. But I built this the first time without mistakes because reviews here warned me to be careful. tip: make sure you have all the pieces before starting your build! Count all the screws and furniture parts as outlined on the sheet. Tedious but worth it. I also given two extra screws of each type which would have confused me off if I hadnt counted before I started. That said all the screws holes were nicely drilled and everything fit together pretty well. Quality: metal frame makes it a pretty weighty product. Two six pound kittens make it wobble slightly towards the top so I while it’s ok for now (I added 15 lb books to the bottom shelf), I will be bolting this to the wall later as the cats get bigger. I’ll be using the free anti tip kit from IKEA because they give them out free. What disappointed me a lot were all the silver screws. They should have at least been painted white. They were def photoshopped out of the stock photos. Some of the paint on the metal was chipped as well but it’s hardly noticeable. In the future I plan on covering the shelves with some carpeting to make it more comfortable for the cats, adding faux plants (all stuck down with museum gel of course), adding plexiglass to certain openings (don’t want them jumping onto a small shelf I have on the wall for picture frames), painting the screw caps white, and once it’s bolted to the wall, a full body scratching board covered in sisal rope. All in all, I am glad I got this product. Even tho it was a bit of a pain assembling it was totally worth it to have a cat tree that looks this decent! It’s way cheaper than some of the custom cat furniture I’ve seen and didn’t require any power tools to drill extra holes. Varying shelf heights are very practical, allowing mounting, storage, and display of several very different types of items. It also provides a contemporary feel that breaks up the boring lines of regular shelves. Though I am generally not a fan of faux wood grain shelves, the black finish blended well with my other furniture. Best of all, I got a shelf system that met my functional needs, is aesthetically appealing, and is very sturdy for a lower price than that of competing, inferior quality alternatives.
