So, before I make any relatively important purchases, I do a fair amount of research on the peer reviews. This item in particular, has a mixed bag of reviews, the worst I'd say was Maybe a smell and that the wood planks were make of irregular cuts. Those ones in particular showed the wood planks as if they were cut out or had a rip in the fabric, therefore exposing them. But fortunately for me, my product came intact, so when if there were irregular cuts, they are all still uniform in length, width, and height, so personally I don't care if some were maybe end pieces that would change the width in a monor way, that doesn't effect what you'd feel once placed any ways. Second, as far as the smell, to me it smelled like lumber, which I don't hate. And once I out my mattress on top of it, I smell nothing. Why did I buy this and what did I already have at home? I'm always apprehensive about purchasing a large item such as this because it is nearly impossible if you need to return. I have a foam mattress (which I hate, too dang hot) and over the years, I've gone through a handful of frames. Most don't work because I can feel the frame under my mattress. Which was the case this time. I have a heavy-duty metal frame, also purchased off of Amazon, was family cheap and I don't hate it. But I can feel it under my mattress, it does creak when I move around, and my lower back hurts from sleeping on it. So I purchased this product and after two weeks, I can confidently say that it has fixed all of the mentioned issues. I made the mistake of not only purchasing a foam mattress, but a fantastic looking yet cheap wooden frame platform bed. It immediately became clear that "no box spring needed" was a falsity, but adding a box spring to a low platform bed is not ideal as then the mattress would be ridiculously high up. For awhile I sank into the mattress as well because it would squeeze through the standard wooden slats. Thankfully I discovered this product. It came in a small box with minimal packaging. It's made out of quality wood that is really sturdy. It also comes in two halfs with a velcro strap that you can connect them with. Installing it was super easy & it being in two pieces made it even easier. I simply rolled one side of my mattress up a bit, slid the vertical slats in then unfolded the slats. Once I finished one half I immediately noticed that it was a couple of inches undersized as the one half didn't reach the center support beam. It was the same with the second half so I ended up not connecting them. Once I layed in bed though the difference was tremendous. No longer did the bed sink in. In fact was much firmer than I thought it would be. It made my foam mattress feel like a regular spring mattress. Sleepwise I have to be honest since it made it too firm I'm not that big of a fan. There's almost no give so it's a drastic difference from the sleeping on a pillow feeling. The bed doesn't creak or flex at all so there's no fear of breaking. Overall, it's a quality product, but they make a version that uses a softer wood as well as add another slat in-order to account for the missing inches since this is definitely not undersized for a king. ... show more

Do not buy this. I checked to make sure that the item was 39 inches, the width of a twin mattress. I didn't want the slats to slip out. I placed the "bunkie board" on the bed frame, put the mattress on it, sat down to test it and the bunkie board and mattress fell to the floor. In fact, the slats are NOT 39 inches. They are 37-38 inches long. Hope I can return ... show more

I needed something to go inbetween a hybrid mattress and a memory foam topper as they were both too soft for my liking. This slatboard is perfect for my needs, although because the mattress topper is so soft, I can feel the separation of the boards when you sit on it, but it's a small price to pay for overall comfort.
