    • Poorly made and not designed to hold books

The predrilled holes don't line up so no edges or corners are square and you can see the particle board unfinished sides along them. The top apron isn't wide enough so there is a strange gap showing in 2 of the 4 vertical front pieces. The top apron is higher on one side than the other. The veneer doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the exterior sides so you can see the unfinished particle board at the bottom and in my case, some lovely orange spray paint that was left over from manufacturing. If you want to make the shelves wide enough for two rows of hard cover books, because there is an apron on the front of each shelf the 3rd shelf will barely be tall enough for a framed 4x6 photo. I got this because I love to read and it looked like it would be sturdy and able to hold some of my books nicely. It doesn't If one shelf is tall enough for cookbooks, you will only be able to fit mass market size books on the top 2 shelves of that column. Nothing about this makes any sense. ... show more

I bought this bookcase for my office, which I recently renovated. This bookcase fits perfectly where I needed it to. It’s built pretty solid from wood, not composite board. It was also pretty easy to put together. Two recommendations: (1) place a large blanket or mat down on the floor first before you start building, otherwise you’ll scratch it like I did; (2) if you can have a second person help you, that would be great. I put it together myself, which was fine, but contributed to the scratching. It looks great, fits lots of materials, and is sturdy. The backing is screwed into place (as opposed to those usually flimsy nails that break the backing) and fees sturdier. All in all, very happy with this purchase and would recommend! ... show more

    • Solid and nicely designed
As with any piece of furniture, there seems to always be one piece that is not in correctly. Despite this, got it together and it is really nicely made, and solid. Box was super heavy when it arrived. It is a nice size if you are interested in something large. It holds as much as a vertical book case and a bit more. It also is very stable even on carpeting so not worried about it tipping over. Would buy again. Only challenge was a bit of the assembly. No matter how many pieces of furniture I have assembled, there always seems to be one that I get in wrong. This time found a work around. ... show more

We bought this to be used as an entertainment center. Works really well as one too. Put a couple 1" holes in the back panel for wires to go through at the very top and cant even see them for the drop down front panel. Highly reccomend. Heavy built unit. Our tv pictured above is 75".

This is a very sturdy piece, and it fits a unique space. While the directions were very clear, and I didn't goof up any steps, it still took four hours to assemble. The pieces are heavy (whole thing weighs 110 pounds) and there are a ton of screws. A power drill would have helped... I couldn't get all corners totally square, it looks rough as a finished piece. However, once filled with books, and a runner across the top, it's not that noticeable. If I had to do it again, I would have shopped for two (preassembled) 3' high x 4' wide pieces and put them side-by-side. ... show more

    • Has tons of scratches

This item arrived with tons of scratches. After assembly it looks like an old bookcase due to the scratches. When spacing the shelves to accommodate books, the third shelf is too shallow to hold books. I can only put books on two shelves. I keep a pack of papers on the third shelf.

The bookshelf was not easy to assemble. The parts don't always fit together so there are gaps in the shelf. There was also writing on the board that ended up being the top of the shelf and is easily visible. After lots of scrubbing the writing is still there! Customer service did not respond to my complaint about the writing on shelf either. The final product does look good (unless you view ours from the top) but books are hard to get in and out due the lip on each shelf. Bottom line is I expected a better quality product for the price. ... show more
