Needed to add some extra storage to my wife's PC and her OEM case wasn't setup to handle it. What's more, the OEM case had a single exhaust fan and no option for adding an intake fan or anything. (I'm looking at you ASUS). So I went looking for a replacement - wanted something that looked nice, would be easy to build in, and not too expensive. The Thermaltake Versa H17 definitely fit the bill. This is my first Thermaltake case. After my experience with the H17, I expect it won't be my last. (I'm giving serious consideration to moving my home server to a V21 cube chassis.) I'll go into detail about my experience with building in the case. First I'll mention, if you're re-using old parts or if you're on a tight budget and you've got / are getting a wired power supply instead of modular, the case is ideal. The H17 doesn't use traditional drive cages of any kind to mount drives - no doubt a cost saving measure - and instead uses a system rubber washers + screws where you can mount a 3.5" hard drive to the floor of the case under the PSU cover and second 3.5" hard drive under the top of the PSU cover. With this mounting system instead of drive cages, this leaves TONS of space to neatly tuck away your unused power supply cables. You mount 2.5" drives in the same basic fashion as the 3.5" drives, except the drives can mount on either side of the case's motherboard tray. I chose to mount drives to the back side of the tray to make cable management easier. The motherboard tray has a very large cutout to make access to the CPU backplate a breeze, should you ever need to. The side panels go on and off without any issues at all - unlike many other cases I've used over the years. Behind the motherboard tray there is PLENTY of room for cable management - especially when you include the space under the power supply cover. There are plenty of zip-tie points to help keep your wires tidy as well. If this case is missing anything it would be rubber grommets and velcro straps, however, including these would only end up increasing the price of the case. Let's talk for a minute about fans and cooling. With having a mostly solid front panel, there is going to be some restriction on the amount of air coming into the chassis. However, because the ventilation holes are on the front of the panel (instead of on the sides of the front panel like some other cases) the incoming air doesn't need to make a directional bend and lose pressure. The front of the case is listed as supporting up to 3 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm front fans along with 1 x 120mm or 140mm top fan (featuring a magnetic dust filter) and 1 x 120mm rear exhaust fan - a 3 pin basic black Thermaltake fan is included here. Only including the one fan is another cost saving measure on Thermaltake's part. When I purchased the case, I ordered 2 x 120mm Cougar Vortex PWM fans to use with it in addition to a 120mm Cryorig fan that I already own. While I don't think most people will need to add three fans to this case, I do highly recommend you get at least 1 decent fan to include as a front intake. My original plan was to include all 3 fans in the front of the case and leave the top fan location vacant. I changed my mind on this during the build for 2 reasons. 1 - The wires for the buttons, LEDs, and ports on the top of the case are attached to the front panel. When you install the fans too high up in the case, it becomes difficult to route these wires into the case. 2 - After I noted the position of the top fan location is in a more "forward" position relative to the CPU, I decided to put the 120mm Cryorig fan there as an intake fan. If the position were more toward the back, I'd have instead configured it as an exhaust fan. If I'd have made this fan an exhaust where it's located, I'd literally be stealing cool air that's coming into the chassis and exhausting it away from the CPU before it has a chance to make use of it. This is not withstanding that positive air pressure is best for managing dust. If this computer had a tower style CPU cooler (such as a Cryorig H7 or CoolerMaster 212 EVO) instead of a stock downdraft style cooler, I would not have added the top fan at all as this would just cause turbulence. If I were going to ding the score of this case for any reasons at all, it would be these points about the fan mountings. However, I don't feel it's appropriate to deduct from the score of this case at all. Here's why. As this case is a budget case, I don't expect many people who purchase it to plan on using 360mm AIO coolers - which could be difficult due to the wire issue that I mentioned - and in all honesty, I think the cooling configuration I've got in place right now is likely more optimal than my original plan for 3 fans in the front of the case. Running the 3 fans in the front would only have blown extra air under the power supply cover. Having the top fan more forward winds up being a plus because running an intake fan here alleviates any problems this case would have with pulling in sufficient air to keep things inside cool. All-in-all, if you're looking for an attractive case (especially if you don't want a windowed side panel) that is high on build quality but low on price, I would highly recommend you consider the Thermaltake Versa H17. ... show more

So for starters, I bought this case for two reasons. For one, I've always wanted a good see-through case for my PC, but most cases were too expensive, didn't cover my PC needs, or there was always some other reason stopping me. Additionally, I recently wanted to get a case where I could customize the glass of the case with my YouTube logo, which I did with this one, and it turned out amazing! So the case is beautiful. It the light, and especially in the dark, regardless of what you put in it. That said, it means your gear look that much better even if you aren't tricking out the insides as much. My only complaint is that it is acrylic rather than tempered glass, which isn't a big complaint since it's more resilient to shattering, but more so an issue with the people on amazon calling it glass. It's not glass - it's acrylic (important for glass etching). That being said, the acrylic can just be stenciled and sprayed with glass privacy-frosting, rather than etched for the same effect. Just be careful as it's hard to get off. (4-5 hours of fighting to fix the first attempt on the design later...but worth!) Now for functionality, sit down because I'm about to take you for a ride with what I love about it. First off, hard drive space. Finally a case that doesn't max out at two 2.5" drives! Hell, it can support what, like eight 2.5" drives or four 3.5" drives on the back, and then three drive bays inside for 3.5" (or 2.5" if you get the stuff to make it fit like a 3.5")? This case has space for your...space. Additionally, this case supports anywhere from micro-ATX, to ATX, to Extended-ATX, as well that it allows for a crap ton of PCI/PCI-E bay slots, the ability to side-mount the graphics card, hell it even comes with a set of massive fans up front (in a video I watched, I heard it included the smaller fans, but I was happily "disappointed" instead). The wiring management of the case is absolutely beautiful, so if you want to see the least amount of up-front cable, while still having a ton of room in the back to manage your cables, then you're going to be happy... Did I mention it not only comes with zip ties if you want to use them, but it also comes with locations to allow you to tie off those pesky cables onto the metal of the case? There's actual tie-down areas. Obviously is has all the lovely RGB you see with those fans, a controller for the RGB, as well as cables to connect said controller to your ASUS or Gigabyte RGB-compatible motherboard. But wait, there's more! Hate having to clean the PC? Well the entire bottom has a nice and easy slide-out filter for a quick clean, as well as a magnetic filter on the metal side of the case. Also, if you hate having too few screws, or like them all one color (black like your soul), then you this case is for you. Screws until you're tired of screwing with them...and then some. The upper-rear fan mount has mounting lines(?) rather than only mounting holes, so you can adjust, have any fan sizes you could imagine I'd guess, and it made mounting my AIO easy as pie. Back on the note of RGB, I also have to say that the built-in RGB modes are rather nice and you won't feel bad if your ASUS motherboard with Aura Sync doesn't have a set of pins for RGB controlling on it for some reason (I'm not even mad. Seriously, I'll stick with the built-in modes). To summarize, after moving my hardware into this new case, I am thoroughly convinced that this case was designed by an RGB-loving gaming PC-enthusiast engineer who took a few years making a list of everything he hated in a case just so he could blow the minds of anyone who dare give his case a try. If nothing else, I am dang well impressed. I used to be a CoolerMaster boy, but as of getting this case...Thermaltake, if you're reading this, give this case's engineer a bonus. I didn't realize how great a brand you are until I saw how you treat your PC housing. 11/10. (Only real complaint is that little edge at the top-rear of the acrylic, while for bump/damage/crack prevention, makes the numerous thumb screws a little less useful. That said, God bless you guys for adding thumb screws to both the front and back panel. I love you guys.) ... show more

    • Excitement lead to dissappointment

So i bought this case as a build for my brother. I am new to the pc building world but this is my third pc in 3 months and this is my honest experience. 1. The case looks way better in the pictures. Once i recieved it, like anything new i was excited to open it and check it out. The look was not what i was expecting. Dissapointed. 2. The quality seemed cheap. The metal is flexible and did not have the solid feel of other cases i have used. The metal was twisted and very flexible in some areas. The stand offs were all sorts of out of wack and not straight a couple were even cross threaded which i thought was odd for a "new" case. The provided fans are very nice and did move air very well and seem very high quality. Very nice. The glass panel is HEAVY! very thick and solid piece of glass. 3. Lastly and this is the mosy frustrating part... i put the pc together outside the case to confirm all worked before installation and cable management. It did. So i installed everything into the case and hit the power button and nothing. I trouble shooted for a few hours and was able to pin point an issue with the power switch with the case. During shipping or manufacturing one of the connecters came loose by th smallest amount. Needless to say this should not happen. Overall the case will serve its purpose and my brother will be happy but this is dissappointing for sure. Cases from other manufactures seemed to pay more attention to detail and build quality. Im sure there is worse out there but this was bad. I will not use a thermtake case again for any build. ... show more
