Description

For essential comfort and warmth in the backcountry, the Therm-a-Rest Trail Scout Self-Inflating Foam Camping Mat is a favorite for blazing new trails. The 1-inch thick sleeping pad has a 3.1 R-value to comfortably allow for three-season camping and backpacking (R-value measures the material’s ability to insulate; the higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad). Featuring a solid polyurethane foam core, with durable urethane fabric top and bottom, the streamlined shape keeps the weight and size of the pad down, while a generous and supportive, self-inflating foam core inflates with the twist of the valve. The foam sleeping pad self-inflates, and can easily be adjusted for firmer support with a few extra breaths into the valve. Available in two styles: Equipped with the Standard Valve, or equipped with the WingLock Valve which is able to inflate a pad three times faster than a standard valve thanks to a larger barrel and optional one-way inflation. Both styles include a stuff sack to protect the pad when it's packed down. Made in the USA. Manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.

  • Hope the pictures help
Size: Regular - 20 x 72" Style: Winglock Valve
I was surprised by the lack of pictures. Who doesn’t like pictures to help you decide what it looks like that aren’t taken by the company. As you can see the pad is much smaller than a standard size Coleman sleeping bag. It’s extremely lightweight and is perfect for backpacking. As for comfort it’s not as comfortable as my basecamp sleeping pad by the same brand. That being said it’s half the weight and size. My son uses this pad and has never complained about being uncomfortable. I unfortunately sleep like princess and the pea so don’t use this one much. I mainly got this because it’s a 3 season pad which means it’s insulated and will keep the ground from stealing your body heat which is needed here in the PNW. It’s pretty easy to use if you read the instructions. After a few tests with a few errors I’ve perfected how to inflate and deflate. Here’s a few tips make sure the winglock valve is open which is how you let air in when self inflating and how you let air out when deflating. Then we have the nozzle which is open when inflating and deflating. Be sure to close the cap nozzle thing and the winglock valve when set up and when finished deflating to store (I didn’t close it and it self inflated in the bag). It’s a wonderful product that is really easy to misuse and not work but if you follow the instructions it’s a good choice. If you’re an adventurer that prefers a practical reliable of this is it. If your main concern is padding for aching joints and bones or sleeping like princess and the pea like me and need the luxuries of a nice comfortable bed I recommend looking elsewhere. ... show more

  • Hope it works
Size: Medium - 20 x 66" Style: Standard Valve
Ordered two and one of them has made a huge bubble and is unusable. Was camping in Australia and ruined my trip a fair bit. Can not find a way to return or exchange.

  • Great Sleeping Pad
Keeps you warm, and comfortable. I find the firmness and cushion of this pad preferable to most air mattresses I've tried. A really great place to sleep while camping and packs down reasonably small. Slept on it for two weeks and had no complaints. Highly recommended. Aside, a friend of my reports that the valve is slightly fragile. If you are shipping or flying this sleeping pad, make sure to do so with the valve OPEN so that pressure changes do not bust the valve. I've not owned the pad long enough to encounter any issues. ... show more

  • Very comfortable and packs down well
Size: Large - 25 x 77" Style: Standard Valve
I bought this inflatable pad because didn't like using the thick foam pads for camping, as they would not pack down small enough to put in bags and carry around. Well this pad definitely packs down smaller than my old foam bed roll does. It is WAY more comfortable than foam as well. I slept on this pad with my Teton 20 degree sleeping bag and didn't get cold at all and it got down into the fifties (I slept with the sleeping bag unzipped). It was nice sleeping on something so soft while in a tent, it made it really feel like I was on an actual mattress! The one night I've slept on this thing so far was the BEST sleep I've gotten while camping, and comfort is what really matters when it comes to something like this. This pad is a flat upgrade over the foam mats, as it's more comfortable and portable. I couldn't recommend this enough as a perfect upgrade over the foam-style roll-up pads. While packed down, it can easily fit within my dry-bags. It's probably as round as a football and just as long. This was my major gripe about the other types of pads. So far I'm loving this pad and can't wait to get back out there again and try it out some more. ... show more

  • Best pad in my opinion
Size: Regular - 20 x 72" Style: Winglock Valve
I had the older model trail scout for 7 years and it served me well. I has around thirty holes in it from cat claws and I want to share the reason I love this particular pad so much. If you use the clear tenacious tape patches on it you don’t need sealant. They stick really well to the surface of this. Just cut to size so it is 1/4 of an inch all around the sides of the hole make sure the area is clean and dry and push the tape down on the surface as hard as you can. It will hold a seal forever on the urethane. Other pads aren’t this simple to patch. Even with thirty holes my old one still holds air after being taped up. Really I didn’t need a new pad at all, but I was curious about the new wing lock valve. The only thing I don’t like about this new pad is the valve. My mouth doesn’t seal around it as well as the old one and the inflation time seems the same. The wing lock is awkward by comparison to the old. I don’t like that I have to manipulate it more and the larger size of the nozzle leaves air to escape around the edges when I blow into it. Maybe it’s just this one? Defective? I don’t know. I should probably contact them and ask if this is a wing lock thing. I am not taking off stars for it. Only thing I would change is to put a layer of Mylar sandwiched between the foam to make it a little bit warmer and still let it be self inflating. If they do that I will never buy another pad. 😂 ... show more

  • Great Product, Great Value
Size: Small - 20 x 47" Style: Standard Valve
The sleeping pad is very comfortable, compact and light. The self-inflation works well. I only need to blow a couple of breathes into it to make it really firm. I was concerned that it might be difficult to put the pad back into the bag after deflation, but no problem at all. It was pretty easy to deflate and flatten. Reminder: The instruction says to store the pad flat with the valve open. ... show more

  • Cushy, but slippery!
Inflates easy enough and held air overnight just fine. The problem is trying to stay on the thing! It's very slippery and you end everywhere but on top of it by the time morning rolls around. Have used it in a tent, in a hammock (even there it slid up the side of the hammock), and my son used it on the floor of a hotel room on a trip we took recently. ... show more

  • Good thermal barrier.
It holds air like a fairly cheap air mat would. It's not great, but it's better than sleeping on the floor. It rolls up pretty small which means it can save you some room. I primarily use it for sleeping in a camping hammock and it's great for that. I don't think I'd use it for normal camping though. ... show more
