The 1 New York Times bestseller by the 7-time Super Bowl champion The first book by NFL legend Tom Brady, the 7-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who reached unimaginable heights of excellence into his forties—a gorgeously illustrated and deeply practical “athlete’s bible” that reveals Brady’s revolutionary approach to sustained peak performance for athletes of all kinds and all ages. In this new edition of The TB12 Method, Tom Brady further explains and details the revolutionary training, conditioning, and wellness system that has kept him atop the NFL at an age when most players are deep into retirement. Brady—along with the expert Body Coaches at TB12, the performance lifestyle brand he cofounded in 2013 with Alex Guerrero—explain the principles and philosophies of pliability, a paradigm-shifting fitness concept that focuses on a more natural, healthier way of exercising, training, and living. Filled with lessons from Brady’s own training regimen, The TB12 Method provides step-by-step guidance on how develop and maintain one’s own peak performance while dramatically decreasing injury risks. This illustrated, highly visual manual also offers more effective approaches to functional strength & conditioning, proper hydration, supplementation, cognitive fitness, restorative sleep, and nutritious, easy- to-execute recipes to help readers fuel-up and recover. Brady steadfastly believes that the TB12 approach has kept him competitive while extending his career, and that it can make any athlete, male or female, in any sport and at any level achieve his or her own peak performance and do what they love, better and for longer. • TB12 Method Great Advice From Expert Brady
Format: Paperback
Tom Brady’s book is very good on dieting, eating for stamina and his workouts lessening injury. This is my second book after I gave my first one to a friend’s son studying to be a physical therapist. I eat macrobiotically like Tom Brady’s chef prepared food for the Brady family. I appreciate Brady sharing his wisdom. After reading his book I built a stretchy band station on wall of our home gym. It’s nice to know Brady advises stretchy band workouts with less strain and injury than heavy dumbbells. Book has good exercises with pictures. Corrected mispelled macrobiotically. ... show more

  • SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR ALL COACHES AT EVERY LEVEL
Format: Hardcover
This book is a summary of Brady's healthy life style and exercise routine. As a nurse practitioner trained as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, I found his beliefs to be pretty well grounded in science and commonly accepted practices and enjoyed the content. It is comprehensive and well-thought out. It's his way of telling his story and then thoroughly covering all aspects of life that lead to achieving a lifetime of sustained peak performance that makes it unique. If we all did what he suggests, we'd all be fit, healthy, and happier. If coaches followed these guidelines, we'd have less injuries nation wide. It should be required reading of all high school athletes and especially the coaches who still don't get it. It's totally worth the money because the concepts apply to all people, not just those who exercise or are athletes. His main point of adding pliability (lengthening and softening muscles) to your strength and conditioning routine is not a new concept but it is rather new to see a professional athlete embrace it so thoroughly. It really is one of the main secrets to his athletic longevity and all of us should add pliability exercises to our routines as well as follow his 12 principles. To discredit an earlier review - Brady does NOT say you have to go to one of his centers to achieve pliability. He discusses self pliability exercises, partner pliability exercises, and then professional therapists at his centers (which would probably be for the amateur and professional athletes or those who are really into this). There is a bit of a sales pitch tone to it though with some annoying repetitious phrases - but maybe the athletes need it drilled into them. It seems it was written so that you'd get the same couple messages with each page. He could have said the same stuff in less pages. I highly recommend starting this book with the conclusion on page 284 for a summary of what's to come. Move on to the middle and if you haven't had enough, then hit the verbose beginning chapters. There are a ton of good pictures to help with understanding the exercises and if you are a Brady fan you'll like his personal touch. I'm glad I got it and highly recommend it. If I had a kid in sports, I'd buy it for them no matter how young and read it with them. I'm ordering my husband his own book and I'm recommending it to all my friends. It's really that good. ... show more

  • Pliability, nutrition, and hydration: the key insights of TB12
Format: Hardcover
Rating: 3.5 stars I enjoyed large sections of this work, mostly the introductory materials and the sections on pliability, nutrition, and hydration. If you want to know about the key insights of TB12 and Alec Guerrero, I would say it has to do with the whole concept of pliability. In general, it's the idea that to prevent injuries and to extend the lifespan of any active person, especially an athlete, but it applies to anyone who uses their muscles and brain in combination for any type of physical activity at all, ... is to extend/lengthen each and every primary and secondary muscle such that the muscle is no longer strained in it's activities and it can essentially almost never be injured or damaged in the course of normal use. It also helps for recovery and fitness and many other things, too. The book is worth reading if you are an athlete, trainer, physical therapist, sports therapist, or Tom Brady fan. If you aren't, then you won't be able to finish it. It's very much a "how to" book, with lots of large photographs, diagrams, charts, lists, and recipes. It's a very good coffee table book too. I read the hardcover, got it from Amazon at a very good price. I appreciated it, and may use it as a reference book. Keep in mind also that in some ways it's an advertisement for TB12, Tom's next and current (on the side) business venture. Expect this to take off for a time after he retires. It's an applied methodology that others are using (Gronk, etc.) which has been very helpful for some pro and amateur athletes. I may post/write more about the TB12 method in the future. ... show more

  • interesting - even if you're not an NFL fan interesting - even if you're not an NFL fan
Format: Paperback
I bought this book for my husband. He is NOT obsessed with Brady or anything, but after he played with the Buccaneers, my husband really loved how he played and the shape he was in for his age. My husband liked the gift, but hasn't really dug into the book yet. Me, on the other hand, I can't put it down. I didn't realize it was going to be a brief memoir. His story really inspired me and fueled my drive to improve my professional performance as well as treat my workout soreness differently. I use to get lower back and glute pain when I hit the weights and cycling on the same day so I split them up - never cycling on a weight training day. After reading TB12 method and incorporating some of the foam roller exercises - I am feeling better than ever and I now can do a weight day and jump on my Peloton for a spin class without worrying. The nutrition portion didn't teach me much since I already primarily follow a WFPB way of eating, but if you don't understand nutrition and how it impacts your body and brain, that portion is good too. The chapter on hydration does a deep dive on water which was definitely informative. I plan to incorporate pliability, but might seek out a trainer to get me started. Overall love the book and as others have said, it is huge! Nice coffee table book, but this is one you'll actually read and benefit from. ... show more

  • A must read for all athletes, but with some major flaws.
Format: Hardcover
Let's start with the good: First off, there's a lot of good info for the aspiring athlete and a real in-depth look into Tom Brady's training regiment and diet. It's rare to get such deep insight from professional athletes, especially one of Brady's calibre. Next you get a quality introduction to pliability and what it means for your body and a truly balanced workout. And again Brady gets really in-depth with his principles and his workouts and diet structure so you're getting the whole picture. I've incorporated many of his exercises into my routine and have been happy with what I get out of them. You also get a mini autobiography from Brady on his sports history and the support he's gotten from friends, family and coaches his whole life. If you're a Pats fan that's well worth it as well. The recipes are great as well! They (especially the Salmon and Chicken burgers) go over really well at dinner parties. And finally considering the size of the book and the quality of the information inside $17 is a steal. But now for the negatives: Brady is right: Pliability is something that's missing from the majority of athletic programmes in the West. And from playing baseball in America right through college I know -- from personal experience -- for this to be true. This book is perfect for you. However, if you're into Martial Arts, Yoga, P90X or if you've ever played professional Baseball in East Asia (I play in Korea now), you're not really getting anything new. Same if you're a nutrition freak. The principles and theory is a mix of the best of West and the best of the East, so if you're familiar with Eastern medicine this might be more of a review for you. Now, the big one for me is the lack of sourcing. There's none! Absolutely none! This has lead to a bit of lack of trust in the content. Like I said, most of it should be common knowledge for some people, but there's some claims that I've never heard before (e.g. avoid nightshade vegetables) and information about alkaline vs acidic foods that might be new to a lot of people. Because he doesn't provide even so much as a "further reading" section, I don't really know if he's pulling this stuff out of his ass or has actually researched it. (Yes. Google searches provide the answers to a lot of questions, but still: I want to know where you're getting this stuff from, Tommy!) And there's a rather large testimonials section that doesn't even provide any names!!! Who is this anonymous "professional Japanese baseball player"? Are these just made up? How can I verify their success if I can't even find out who they are? But despite these major faults, I still highly recommend this book for the athlete or aspiring athletes of all levels. There's a lot of quality and important information in here that's far too often overlooked in the four major American sports and this book looks to plug those holes. So, if that's you, definitely get it! I wouldn't recommend this book for the academicly inclined. ... show more

  • Well written and easy to follow
Format: Hardcover
Interesting book. Well written and easy to follow. Discusses an area of training that is outside the box. Has other interesting portions as well. Some haters in the media have been writing about outlandish claims made in the book. I did not see them. The information is presented in a reasonable, readable fashion. There is no proselytizing or silliness. Mr. Brady tells what has worked for him, what he believes the basis for his training success and longevity in football. He explains how to incorporate his training methods/how to actually do it. He does not advocate abandoning other methods but provides insight into what he believes is an important missing piece in physical training and maintenance of the body. He gives dietary and hydration advice as well. The book comes across as an effort by a serious, successful professional athlete explaining a unique approach to training that has worked for him. It comes across that he is sincere in wanting to share this information and believes it can help people to live better and feel better. ... show more

Format: Hardcover
My used book arrived in excellent condition. Easy to read. Motivates me with specific actions to take to become healthy. I’ve always cheered for the opposing teams in Tom’s Super Bowl appearances. But his life accomplishments earns him the right to talk about healthy life choices and I respect his research and his instructions. I expect to add many of his ideas to my life routine! ... show more
