Description

It sounds like the start of a bad joke…or perhaps a confusingly awesome dream. A Physical Therapist, ex-collegiate track athlete, Ivy league grad, Youth Pastor, and some dude with a PhD start having a conversation about cholesterol. And then you realize all those guys are THE SAME GUY, and that guy takes you on a whimsical pilgrimage that results in YOU having a framework for NOT having heart attacks, strokes, and dementia. Employing a smorgasbord of metaphors, pictures, and catchphrases, The Home Security System and the Lipid Neighborhood serves as a valuable reference for clinicians and non- clinicians alike, bringing refreshing relatability to complex biochemical topics. Through a lipid-lens, you’ll learn, laugh, and love your way through its pages…and in the end, you’ll undoubtedly add “life to your years!” Read more

  • Lipids and a chuckle
Fantastic read. You get a deeper understanding of cholesterol, but more importantly some actionable information. Enjoyed the educational aspect as well as the lighthearted and almost whimsical tone, making this a great book.

  • Quick Read Packed with Info
I absolutely loved the allegory used in the book used to explain things. I've had the pleasure of meeting the author in person, and I was fascinated with the breadth and depth of knowledge. I have tremendous respect for him. I KNEW, even as a lipid specialist, I would learn something from his book, and I did! All that to say that from the stay-at-home (or working) parent wanting to grow in knowledge-- to the lipid enthusiast--there is something in this book for you. ... show more

  • Informative and a must have for every personal library!
Wageman has a way with words and has penned an instructive, helpful, easy-to-read and understand, and at times humorous book that will help you on your way to better health. This informative book is a must have for every personal library, and I highly recommend it.

This is such a great book. I love that I can read about the intricacies of lipids and also laugh at the same time. I believe that teaching with stories and analogies is one of the best ways to learn. This is likely why Jesus taught with parables. It is neat as a clinician to have a great resource as well to dive in deeper into one of the most difficult aspects about treating somebody in primary care. It is also a great resource for those who care about their health and want to be proactive whether they chose the wrong parents or have a bacon addiction that they can’t give up. Thank you, Josh for such a great book. Looking forward to many more. ... show more

  • Best medical book I have ever read!
I have been following Josh Wageman's advice for years and I am healthier as a result. I am not a clinician and thoroughly enjoyed, understood and appreciate this book. I ordered one for my PCP, as a gift. This book really is the best and least expensive investment you can make to help prevent heart attack, stroke and dementia. ... show more

  • Tremendous read
Josh did a wonderful job of explaining a complex topic in a very “readable” manner. I strongly recommend this book for everyone.

  • Great Overview of Cardio Metabolic Disease
We had a Physicians Assistant who was in first graduating class of PAs at Yale. My husband and I were lucky to find him to help us sort out some cardio metabolic issues. We were some of his first patients. But after just over a year, he quit his medical practice. And we were so sad to lose him. We eventually found another open-minded PCP. That was 3 years ago. Fast forward to today. Our favorite PA (Josh Wageman) published a book about cardio metabolic disease for laypeople with enough scientific underpinning to be useful for physicians. It provides such a great overview of important concepts for health. And I like his sense of humor which he injects throughout the book. Just want to recommend this book for anyone looking for clear overview / conceptualization of cardio metabolic disease with details to make it actionable. ... show more
