  • Great!
Style: Spiral Bound
I haven't started this book yet, but wow! I love working out, but stress too much about 'designing' a workout. I recommend this to anyone just getting started, or just doesn't want to think about what to do. The only thing that could improve this is to have tiny muscle diagrams of which muscles the moves are working so you can more easily feel when you might be doing something incorrectly. That's more for beginners which this seems geared towards. But overall a great purchase. Easy to do a full workout, or half if that's all time permits. ... show more

  • Easy to Jump Right In
Style: Spiral Bound
This journal is a serious and friendly way to get solid strength training in at home. The content allows you to just jump right in on day one, with clear instructions and easy tracking. Im just through the first section and looking forward to seeing how I progress. If you follow the suggested format, you'll need to dedicate probably about 45 min to an hr for each workout. Right now I have less time than that to dedicate so I'm just doing one page of exercises per workout (or about half of a full workout) All that to say, the journal provides flexibility for you to modify as needed. Only suggestion would be to provide alternative ways to perform some of the tougher exercises - for those of us without a lot of upper body strength (yet!) some modifications are needed. I know that can be a rabbit hole though and maybe there's some info in the journal I haven't come across yet. Overall, well designed and useful. I like having a plan! ... show more

  • Good way to track progress
Style: Spiral Bound
This is a good book to get introduced to the world of strength training. Lots of good tips and workouts to keep you on track. Well organized and plenty of room to mess around with different routines.

  • Makes weight lifting easy!

Love this book!!!! Takes the guess work out of my workouts and makes it easy to increase my weights/reps. I definitely going to look at their other journals.

  • When you know HOW to workout but not What to workout
Style: Spiral Bound
This is such a helpful journal. I enjoying working out a whole lot more in my basement gym using the dumbbell journal. I knew that I needed to lift weights but never knew what muscle groups needed what attention. Now, I can just flip the page and it's organized for me! My favorite part is the place to put my reps. If I don't know how to do something or need a modification, I go to the website using the QR code right on the page. I think the only thing missing in the journal would be some stretching advice. ... show more

  • Helped keep me motivated
Style: Gray
Pros: ------ + There don't seem to be a ton of these types of journals that define the workout for you. - the purpose of the journal duh + Helped me avoid skipping leg days and keeps you honest and because of this I went from a floo floo exerciser to 5-6 days a week exerciser. + I liked that it focused on equipment I already had (free weights and a bench). Again, not finding a lot of those (and part of the point) + I liked it made it easy to refer back to last sets of an exercise to track progress on weight and reps Cons: ------ + some of the diagrams were a little unhelpful but the guides in the back generally cleared things up. + I was a little disappointed w the exercises suggested for back muscles. I understand these seem to be more difficult to work w the equipment in scope but perhaps some suggested alternatives with moderate updates to equipment would be nice (e.g. bands, door frame pull-up bar, etc.). + would have liked the diagrams to highlight targeted muscles. Obviously all of this is available online these days but it's nice to see in the middle of things to reinforce esp for muscles beginners like me find difficult to target. I struggle w chest and back to feel what's actually working. I read somewhere in the reviews that this journal isn't as good for women bc there is too much emphasis on upper body... No clue why women aren't supposed to work upper body. The even distro of muscle groups adds value bc that's part of what is difficult to manage when you're in the work-out wilderness. ... show more
