  • MUST READ
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!! The perfect fantasy with a sprinkle of romance. This is such a must read and the book is beautiful as well!

  • Anxiously awaiting the sequel!
Format: Kindle
This was my first book by Pearson but it definitely won't be the last! I think the author did a great job building out the world and fleshing out the characters. I loved that the author didn't just dump a ton of information on the reader but instead slowly introduced us to the world. I think the narrator did a great job with this book. I was never bored while listening to her narrate and loved the different voices she did for the characters.. There are a lot of characters which made it hard to follow who was who at some points but that's no fault to the narrator. I think this is a book that's nice to have the ebook/physical copy to go along with the audiobook. I purchased the ebook so I could re-read some parts which helped a ton! Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the adventure and can't wait for book two! Thank you Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this early! ... show more

  • Cozy fae romance
Format: Kindle
Bristol and her sisters have lost their mother and their father. After a difficult childhood on the run, they are now struggling to support themselves. Until Bristol starts receiving letters from a mysterious aunt. She is suspicious, but desperate, so Bristol investigates. This decision leads to the unraveling of Bristol's entire life. Magic is real and her parents lied to her about everything. I'm not quite sure what to make of this book. It was not what I was expecting from Mary E. Pearson. I would describe it as a cozy fae romance. Bristol has to uncover a lot of mysteries about herself and her family, so the best part of the book was watching her piece it all together. There are multiple POVs, so the reader learns Bristol's family secrets before she does. I enjoyed the romance at times, but other times I just thought it was odd. There seemed like a lot of narration and a very "once upon a time" sort of story telling that just didn't keep my attention at times. It was too bumble gum and rainbows if that makes sense? The book was okay, but I didn't love it and I don't think I will read the next book. This one is 3 stars, but that might be overly generous. ... show more

  • enchanting fae fantasy romance
to the person I saw who called this book a “cozy fantasy”: you doing ok? “Our past is a shadow that follows us. For better or worse, it shapes us, and sometimes it controls us.” I freaking loved this book. I’ve had such a great month for books ❤️🫶❤️🫶 “Don’t let the darkness decide who and what you will be.” the prose was rich, the world was immersive, and the characters were fleshed out and imperfect and lovable. the plot was interesting enough to draw me in (wtf I want a prequel about Bristol’s parents!!), while the world building and character relationships kept me interested. “Forgiveness is a thing of the heart, and every heart is wounded and mended in its own way.” if I had one complaint, it was that the romance didn’t form naturally. one moment they hated each other, the next they’re dancing together & he’s irresistible to her (& vice versa, of course). nothing happened in between these two points so it felt a bit forced. if you’re wanting to read something where you see the moment they fall in love/you want to see that relationship develop, this isn’t it. but it didn’t bother me too much (obviously, since it was still a 5 star read), because their relationship still had its rocky moments so you did get to see a bit more of them coming to know each other better, just later on. “If she was enchanted, she wanted to stay enchanted forever.” this was such an enchanting novel. I absolutely cannot wait for book two. 🗝️portal fantasy romance 🚪the fae 🗝️loathe to lovers 🚪mysteries abound 🗝️the writing style is perfection 🚪secrets, lies, and betrayals 🗝️great world building 🚪forbidden romance 🗝️magic academy 🚪found family elements 🗝️elemental magics “Life wasn’t always about change but sometimes about sameness. And sometimes sameness made you look beneath the surface, look at the bones that held it all together— and the flaws that could be its undoing. Change was a distraction. Sameness demanded reflection.” “There’s more to greatness than power alone. The greatness lies in how you use it.” “Maybe sometimes you couldn’t see truth until you gained distance from it.” “Do we always have to be what we were? Only what others planned for us? Do you think it’s possible to start over— to leave the past behind and become something else?” “There is not a creature… that could turn my head from you. I am scorched earth, and you are my rain.” “Maybe hope was mortal magic.” “There is no magic for healing a damaged heart.” ... show more

  • Good book!
This book was good. I did enjoy it. I went into it blind (my usual). I really need to start reading what books are about before buying them. Instead of saying oh this is pretty. Then seeing what genre it is, and buying it *sigh*. Yeah this is how I own this book. Anyways, it is good. Im interested to see how it turns out in book 2. I feel like A LOT happened really fast in the book, then it would slow down. Then drop a bunch of stuff, then slow down again. It maintained this pattern IMO for most of the book. Some people enjoy that, and others do not. For me it would depend on the time allocated to the book. If it is one I can binge Im cool with it. But if I have to set it down, and pick it up, and keep setting it down in a slower patches I will lose interest. The book has a ya/na feel. But with the spice (even though its more of a leave it to your imagine type.), and age of the FMC Bristol it is obviously an adult romantasy. The ending isn’t a huge cliffhanger really, but the book isn’t wrapped up in a bow yet either. This Fantasy Romance is book 1 in the Courting Bristol Keats series. The romance in this book is a more of an enemies to lovers. The book does have spice, but it is not all that descriptive. Bristol finds out that her father may be alive, and she will do what she needs to do to find him. Including making a deal with a king she can’t stand. Tyghan needs to save his kingdom, and Bristol may be the only one who can do it. Shes his enemies daughter, and she doesn’t know the truth. The truth that he’s the real reason shes been running all her life. This is a fascinating read. ... show more
