My son is 5'3.5" and 95#. He is very athletic and has a muscular build. A slim/skinny cut does not work for him. I bought these in a size 12 last year, and since he outgrew them, I purchased these in a size 14 this year. Straight out of the package, the slacks are a little big: the waist is about 2" bigger than the size 12s we bought last year, and they are about 2" longer than the size 12s. That's quite a bit bigger for just one size up. At first, they fit more like a size 16. However, when I washed them on cold and dried them on high heat with other light-colored clothes, they shrank closer to a size 14. The good news is that now they fit great in the waist, seat, and upper legs. The inner buttons helped with the exact waist sizing. They are still about 1" too long for my son, but I can hem them and let them out. The quality is still exceptional. They are thick chino material and should hold up to some wear.
