Description

To play That Escalated Quickly, read out a simple question (ex. I’m locked in a tiny room. What else is locked in here with me from cutest to scariest). Then everyone is assigned a secret number from one to ten. Next, each player answers the question, and the intensity of that answer is based on their secret number (ex. 1= a bunny, 10= a grizzly bear with chainsaw arms.) Finally, the person who read the question has to try and sort those answers into the correct order. If they get it right, everyone wins! This game is hilarious, energetic, and a great way to get to know your friends and family a little bit better.

  • Quick, creative fun
This game has been a satisfyingly hilarious purchase for our family. We've played it a few times since Christmas, and the kids (13-17) look forward to playing it again and trying it with friends--and we adults enjoyed it, as well. It's a simple concept, so it was quick to learn how to play. There's virtually no setup and it doesn't take long to get through a round of the game, which is great if you've got a busy family like ours and are just trying to squeeze in a half-hour or hour of family fun but aren't looking for hours of gameplay. I appreciate that the cards are dual-sided, so you have lots of scenarios to discuss and are not likely to repeat them for quite a long time. It's also a game that would be easy to play in a variety of settings (car, restaurant, hospital room) because it doesn't require much space. (You could actually just play out of the box or just pack the card decks and keep them in-hand if you don't have a surface for displaying the number cards at the end of each round or tracking the success/failure cards.) We did discover that our initial instinct was to come up with a simple answer (for the 'jumping out of an airplane' example on the box--a parachute or an anvil), but in order to differentiate the level of your answer--and up the hilarity--you have to be elaborate and specific (so three dozen parachutes that had been inspected and packed by experts in parachute-packing and were each guaranteed to hold up to 1000 lbs might be the most helpful, while a single parachute haphazardly packed by a six-year-old but definitely connected to your harness or an angry Canada goose with helpfully oversized feet for ease of gripping and steering might be somewhere in the middle and a semi-truck-sized anvil made of a particularly dense metal not found on earth that has the unique quality of being intensely attracted to the surface of our planet would definitely prove itself to be the worst option). Have fun being creative with your answers and debating your fellow players' about the ranking of various answers! ... show more

  • Really fun for a large group
Great white elephant gift. Was well received and played with family the next day. Easy to learn and held our interest

  • Fun!
This is my new favorite game! It’s not difficult to play and it makes me laugh! We’ve been playing it with 4 people and it works very well. The more people who play, the more challenging it would be to “win”. But winning in my opinion isn’t that important. It’s more about how well we did, and laughing at the answers. The questions are very fun and answers can be simple or complex, and do not need to be excessively creative. Sometimes the simplest answers get the most laughs. We’ve had turns where we have numbers that are all one away from each other, and it’s so satisfying to collectively as a group get them in the correct order. The 1’s and 10’s are the easiest to recognize because they are so over the top. It’s the numbers in the middle that are a little more tricky. Great family or party game. ... show more

  • Lots of fun
This game is a lot of fun to play. I recently purchased it and played with a group of friends because I thought this game would be a nice addition to my collection. I will admit however it does take a bit to read over the rules and get going. Or maybe that was just me and my friends where we had to read over the rules a couple times to make sure we were playing it right. So that’s the only downside is it was a bit more complicated than I had expected. That being said however, once we got going and the game picked up, we started to really enjoy it. I like getting to get creative with the different scenarios and how they are either really helpful or detrimental to the situation based on the random number you draw from 1-10. The number 1 is typically for what we would be most helpful in the situation and 10 being least helpful and you make up what happens based on the number. So I enjoyed just riffing off me and my friends scenarios based on the prompt cards and then our series of numbers. I would recommend this game for any avid board game lovers but would advise brushing up on the rules and giving them a good read before playing so that way you can start without a lot of stopping to read back over the rules. ... show more

  • Great game for groups

  • Very Clever Game Design
I love this concept, and the fact that you can play it with larger groups up to 10 and also in just pairs with modifying the rules (see below). The quality of the gameplay, however, is dependent on the cleverness of players, so choose who you play this game with wisely. The categories are clever. I think some of the negative reviews given to this game is more due to those playing it, and not on the game itself. For example: 1. Some of the categories are reverse-scored, in that sometimes a 1 can be "least disappointing..." and other times a 1 can be "most likely to..." So you just have to pay close attention to the prompts before playing a round so that everybody is on the same page. That's not really the fault of the game design. 2. Many have criticized that it is hard to keep track of who said what. To reduce this, we play by having everybody say their clue, then go around one more time to say their clue again. The person guessing then starts with who s/he thinks is lowest, asks that person for their card, then reveals the card number face-up. If correct, s/he goes to the next highest number, etc. That way you know immediately what that person's number was. I have played this around a campfire with one or two other people, when we choose a category, get a number, then just try to guess each other's numbers. In all, this game is a lot of fun if played with the "right" people. We often continue playing even after we get three cards either right or wrong. ... show more
