These are exactly what I was looking for - containers that are 2 gallon, 9.5" wide, 9.5" tall, the same size as the other pails I have been using over the years. There have been a few reviews commenting on how difficult it is to seal the lid and get the lid off - if you want to take the lids on and off, you have to TEAR OFF THE TAB and a portion of the plastic rim around the lid. I used to get these same pails with protein in them and in order to get the lid off, you have to tear the tab. Definitely recommend ... show more

    • The lids suck
The lids of these really suck. If pressed on I literally can't get them off. Which means we have to just set the lids on top instead of seal them on. Even my husband thinks they're too difficult to take on and off. Otherwise they work like you'd expect.

I make a lot of one-gallon country wines using somewhat past-prime fruit culled from the local grocery stores by a food pantry group here. I've learned that it's sufficient to cover my buckets with cloth in the initial vigorous fermentation phase, but if I want to install grommets for air locks into the covers, I can do that.
