  • Perfect for stargazing on our farm!!
We have farm property that’s in the middle of nowhere and is the perfect place for viewing the night sky. We love looking at the stars as a family but hate sharing one telescope. I purchased this as an additional one to own but also as an upgrade. It’s very well made and sturdy. We paid less for this telescope that has more bells and whistles than our old model. We couldn’t be happier!! Packaged really well! ... show more

  • Perfect for kids
Perfect for the price. My kids were super excited to get such a cool detailed look at the moon. The picture doesn't do it justice. The affordability is the best part. I don't have to worry about my kids messing up a nice expensive telescope.

  • Shockingly good optical quality in the basic telescope tube; accessories just "ok" for beginners
This Solomark 80mm (3.1") f/11.25 achromatic refractor was SO CHEAP that I, an advanced amateur astronomer and optics buff, just HAD to try one "as merely an experiment". Now, you could almost knock me over with a feather: as the optical tube assembly's performance is simply AMAZINGLY fine; I wasn't expecting that level of performance and quality! I got it a little to late in winter for Saturn and Jupiter, which set rather early, but tried it immediately at night on M42, the "Great Orion Nebula" when it transited around 9 pm, from Ivins, Utah: a small suburb of large, sprawling St. George, which has about 150,000 people and generates a lot of light pollution. I used some of my "good" astronomical accessories, replacing the 90-degree diagonal and eyepieces supplied. The Orion constellation belt stars were incredibly *sharply, cleanly* focused ('textbook perfect') with virtually NO visible chromatic aberration! Fainter stars, such as the approx. 2.5 mag star just south of the Orion nebula, were also flawless, with steady first diffraction rings and perfect symmetrical shape: I tested the refractor's collimation, which was RIGHT ON! With my 6mm Baader orthoscopic eyepiece (150x) I could occasionally discern the faint fifth member of M-42's "Trapezium". Using a 7.5 mm Ploessl, the Great Nebula (even without any kind of filter, at 120x) was a beautiful *high-contrast*, puffy glow, with great detail and distinction in a sky with out 5th magnitude naked-eye limit, in very steady seeing (about 8 out of 10.) The background is deep black with very bright and clear "star highlights", a wide dynamic range that I did not expect to get in such an economical instrument. The following night, with high haze, was no good for nebulae, but in late twilight I was able to scan the cresecent Moon, and to study Jupiter. Both were very sharp and resolved with a 5 mm Vixen eyepiece (180x) though the supplied tripod was too shaky, so I used my standard heavy astronomical mount. I believe that this instrument, with added high quality accessories, will be a very fine general purpose sky scope! As supplied, some of numerous accessories are just barely...all right...(for beginners.) The exceptions - better than expected - are two oculars, of 10 and 20 mm, that are probably Kellners; they were fine for daytime nature views, and sharp. (I will be using superior eyepieces from my big collection.) Tyro starting-out observers needn't dismiss them; I found them usable for night astronomy, too. The apparent fields are about 58 to 59 degrees, a little wider than a standard Ploessl. I would recommend also adding something like a 40 mm Ploessl (Amazon has an excellent one made by Svbony, at around $21) and perhaps a 2x Barlow lens (again, Svbony is a good recommendation.) The supplied 1.25" barrel diagonal is a porro-prism "correct image" type, which surprised me. Unlike the expected common mirror star diagonal, this design makes the view true to left/right. If you wish to do deep sky, however, I recommend replacing this with a better quality 90-degree 'star' diagonal, which has true up/down but reversed left/right in this scope, which will provide slightly better contrast and image brightness. The 5x finderscope is deficient. It does work for daytime use but for night time astronomy, you SHOULD replace it with a 'red dot sight' which can probably conveniently be attached to the same screws supplied for the optical finder. The tripod has metal legs and is well made, though undersized for the weight and length of the scope tube, and thus shakes for a while after you have touched the scope. It's just BARELY usable with legs extended, if you're patient. There is also a handy smart-phone adaptor, but I'd suggest you use it with the tripod legs UN-extended. Solomark even supplies a fabric carrying case that fits all components, and has a zipper-equipped top; it's a bit flimsy but holds everything well, though it cannot possibly cushion the contents and prevent damage if the scope is sharply bumped or not carefully stored. I personally intend to use this for star gazing as I anticipate it, based on my preliminary night- sky, to be spectacular on the Moon; good on Saturn and Jupiter; and useful for many of the brighter deep sky objects such as the Messiers. It will join my portable f/5 refractor, also 80 mm, which is a "lower magnifying power" instrument with a 2 inch focuser to accomodate very large diameter objects that won't fit entirely into the field of this scope; so that I can have a very wide range of planetary and deep sky options with a small, lightweight kit. My wife was delighted with the performance on the various birds and critters that visit out semi-rural backyard. She remarked, "you can see almost every tiny hair of the chipmunks" that were fifty feet away! And that was with the cheap oculars supplied. Serious astro observers (I've been one for half a century and have numerous other costly scopes!) will appreciate the unexpected high quality of the basic telescope tube optics: a "steal" at a price just under $40. - SRW & RRW, Ivins, UT ... show more

  • Far more impressive than I was expecting.
In these pictures the birds are on some power lines. I was trying to get a picture of the birds in our bird feeder at home, but they just wouldn't sit still long enough for me to get my phone up to the binoculars quite right. Fortunately, when using just the binoculars, it is quite easy to find your target. I hope these pictures show just how impressive the zoom is on these things. The birds are hanging out on the wires and can barely be seen but the binoculars bring them nice and close. My son (4 year old) found these binoculars easy to use as well and immediately said "WHOA, Dad.... the birds are like, in this room." So obviously he could use them and was quite impressed. The adjustment knobs on the binoculars work well and are readily understood if you have used something like this before. The accessories are of similarly impressive quality as well. The case is nice as the stitching is great and the lens covers for the front and back of the binoculars snap right into place and protect them well. If I had to nitpick, the nit would be that the covers that go on the eye part come out as one piece and could easily be lost or misplaced as there is nothing that is keeping them anchored to the body of the binoculars. That can be remedied rather easily by a length of string, however. Recommended! ... show more

  • Fun for backyard bird watching
Binoculars 10x42, Binocular Telescope for Kids and Adults, Suit for Camping Hiking Hunting Wildlife Bird Watching Travel In my area there is a nice Audubon Bird Sanctuary. I enjoy walking there and seeing the variety of birds nesting in the spring. Plus, we have many migratory birds that come through each year. My husband has a very expensive pair of binoculars that are incredible. But, they are quite heavy to carry around. I just wanted a decent pair that I could throw in my backpack and go. These will serve that purpose quite well. These binoculars come with a nice carrying case that I could wear as a cross body bag and forego the backpack. The lenses seem to provide crisp focus and plenty of adjustment for my tired eyes to see sharply within their range. These are not my husbands high end binoculars, but the lenses are great for their purpose. I like that these binoculars are not huge and fit comfortably in my smaller hands. There is a strap included for the binoculars themselves. Make sure to attach the eye piece cover to it when you are putting the strap on. For the price, these are a great pair of binoculars. ... show more

  • Excellent Binoculars that stack up to a very expensive brand
It was odd timing, I just brought these Solomark Binoculars to visit my dad and he happened to have just purchased for himself a $500 pair of Zeiss Terra ED binoculars (see pic for specifics). Oddly, this Solomark binocular pair was almost on par with the Zeiss pair, as my dad and I tested the two out. The handling, weight, look and even the performance were very similar. I cannot help but rate this Solomark pair with the highest marks for its price range especially! They are a very good buy! ... show more
