  • Easy to assemble, perfect for adults
Great quality for the cost. A great beginner telescope for adults.

  • Great for beginners
I was interested in trying out a telescope as I hadn't used one since I was a kid. There's something peaceful yet exciting about it. This telescope comes in a nice looking retail box that would be well suited as a gift for a kid. I was delighted when opening the box to see everything all neatly packed into a carrying case. Not being one to read the instructions, I just started putting it together and was able to get most of the way there pretty easily. It's just attaching the tripod to the telescope, attaching the little scope thing to the telescope, and putting an eye piece in. If you were well versed in the setup and not fumbling through it, taking it all out of the carrying bag and setting it all up would probably take less than 5 minutes. I've spent some time with it looking at the moon, which I recognize is just an easy one that you don't need super fancy equipment to view, but it's just been delightful. Nice and bright, easy to focus, good quality. Overall just pleased to use it as a beginner. The only downside I would say is there are a lot of parts (telescope, spotting scope thing, piece to attach the spotting scope to the telescope, 3 eyepieces, covers for all the eyepieces, and probably 10 or so other parts) and getting it all back in the bag is a little bit of a hassle. If you're just going to set it up and leave it that is not a concern though. ... show more

  • Photography and tripod are troublesome, telescope OK.
Telescope seems good, nice to have swappable lenses (although it was not immediately obvious how it worked: the lens trio can rotate within the trio-holder, also the entire holder can rotate (including the trio) so that the selected lens is accessible from different angles.) The tripod tends to change angle slightly when you tighten either altitude or azimuth locks so once you have something in view (e.g., to photograph) it's changed once you lock down the mount. Further, the smart-phone mount is rather fussy to use. For my LG android phone, because of the location of buttons on the side, the only way for me to use it is to remove the eyepiece mount from the phone holder, lock the eyepiece mount around the eyepiece and then re-assemble eyepiece to the phone holder and THEN put the eyepiece back in the telescope with everything attached. Good luck lining up the camera eye with the eyepiece view; once you get it aligned, there's a small circle of view in the camera about 1/5th the size of the actual photo space (i.e., compared to taking a normal photo.) This can be got around by zooming in on the view, but if you're not perfectly aligned then it zooms a little to one side. I was able to get a photo during the day after about 20 minutes of futzing with it; I haven't yet translated that operation to a night-time environment (because the whole reason I bought this model was because I never use my auto-equatorial-mount telescope due to the time required for setup each time. Disappointed, but since I got a good deal on Prime Day I will probably end up just getting a better tripod for it and somehow finagle an easier way to set up the camera. Having experienced the above issues I would not recommend it to anyone planning to take a lot of photos (as I had been.) I haven't used other camera setups, maybe they're all a bit of pie in the sky. ... show more

The telescope is nice. However, it didn't come with the phone adapter and wire shutter control. Very disappointing.

  • Easy to use and great for beginners
The media could not be loaded. I was pretty pleased with this telescope, but it fell short of five stars, and here is why. The telescope parts felt pretty good in quality, design and easy to set up. The optical lens was excellent, and I saw very nice details of the moon. The only con of this telescope was trying to record the view with an iPhone. My iPhone has three lenses, and the phone mount was a bit difficult to align with the phone and the eyepiece. I was expecting a better set up to plugin rather than use the eye lens to focus. Since my iPhone has three lenses, I tried an older iPhone with one lens, and it still was difficult to focus. Overall, this is a perfect beginner telescope that was easy to set up, use and looks great. I could easily view the moon details, and I only wish it had a better setup to record and take pics. Therefore I rate this product four out of five stars. ... show more
